Absolutely. She was frightening Mike and Ned with a verbal assault while getting closer and refusing to calm down and listen to others. Sometimes you have to go on the offensive instead of waiting to be defensive. Karen actually put Ned's life in danger because she was upsetting Mike, and Mike could have lost his self-control and dropped Ned, which could have caused him to die from the fall. Karen wasn't backing down, so was still a threat. Self-defense IMO.

Screaming into peoples face is also violence. Also, if you have a reason to believe that you are threatened it's totally reasonable to strike preemptively because the first one to strike most of the time wins a fight. 🤷‍♂️
@SeanBZA

Yes she needed that, and also needs to learn that her actions have results. The slap and the telling her to stop before was a minimal response, as she frankly should have shut up when told to, and she is lucky the assault on OP, OP's wife, child and brother, only got her slapped, instead of being arrested for hate crime. Simplest is to tell her to stop posting, and any further will be getting a suit for slander or libel laid against her.

Dyslexia is typically a physical malformation of the communication center of the brain. There's been many studies linking high IQ to it as well... I was punished for being "lazy" in grades 1-3 for not reading but having a high IQ. I simply couldn't read due to my impairment. In grade 3 I was diagnosed and treated for dyslexia. Within a year, I was in my school's honors program and considered one of the top students at my school.

Dyslexia is not related to intelligence. My cousin was diagnosed with it as a child, and after receiving proper help and support to learn how to navigate the way her brain processes reading she became a straight a student. Now she’s fully grown and out of college with a great job in marketing, as far as I know, her disability is an obvious to anyone who doesn’t know her, or even recognizable to anyone who doesn’t know her. She has no intellectual disabilities or cognitive delays, and it’s to the point where I as close family didn’t even know she technically had a learning disability Until someone else offhandedly mentioned it. So with proper training dyslexia is very manageable, and it shouldn’t be seen as an intellectual challenge.

@@sakarnita2cubs i’m glad to hear that. I don’t have any learning disabilities, but I am totally blind, and many many people think that because my eyes don’t work, I have some type of cognitive delay. The two are obviously unrelated, at least in my case, sometimes conditions can be part of, a larger syndrome that leads to cognitive affects, but I’m so glad that there are stories like this that help people recognize the difference. There is nothing worse than being treated like a child because people assume you are disabled in a way that you’re not without even knowing you.

I've gotta disagree that the mama bear was the one to initiate violence. She might have translated it into the physical, but what Karen was saying were very violent words designed to cause damage, and she wouldn't shut up. I don't generally condone getting physical, and I'm not even saying it was for sure the most appropriate call here, but violence has already been employed. All the mama bear did was match her energy in defense of those she cared about. Sometimes that the only way some folks learn how to be civil.
@ostlandr
@ostlandr 2 ай бұрын
In some states "fighting words" is a legal term. Basically, if somebody says something nasty enough to you, you have the legal right to get physical. Those are some of the same rational, civilized states that have a Mutual Combat statute- if two people willingly get in a fight with each other, there is no crime, and neither of them can charge the other with assault and/or battery. (For reference, assault is when you take a swing at somebody, and it becomes battery if you connect.)

Unfortunately, assuming this is in the US, it’s not assault. They could’ve called the cops for disturbing the peace, but not would’ve been done to the Karen unless she got physical. Which sucks, considering it involved a disabled individual. Being autistic and speaking from experience, verbal harassment often did more harm to me than physical matters.
@bread9173
@bread9173 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, some states are different about assault in the US. But here in my state (NC), if someone does something, like screaming that the Karen did, it counts as assault as OP's wife had to change her behavior/felt threatened so Karen did assault OP and OP defended herself. Like, if some guy comes yelling in my face to the point I feel threatened and look for an exit or hide behind something cause my behavior has changed, it's assault. I only know this cause I had a tall dude threaten me at the store and he was charged with assault despite not touching me because he was huge compared to my small self despite me telling him to leave me alone.

I just graduated with my PhD. I have dyslexia, and I'm also ADHD/autistic. Nothing to do with intelligence. It did take me years longer than many of my peers. But I also got more clinical supervision, and passed my dissertation defense with minor edits (as opposed to major edits) which is uncommon. I was also always told "you're so smart", while also being told I was lazy, needed to "apply myself", and simultaneously made to feel dumb in social situations. I wasn't diagnosed with learning disabilities until more than half way through college. People like that "friend" make me so mad. Story 1: okay so I get the thing about only attacking when someone attacks first and that might be where people are coming from. But here’s the thing, Karen was aggressively getting closer and screaming about how she trying to protect the baby. Even though there was no danger, and the brother was clearly in no position to defend himself. You could also argue that she was about to physical attack him with her very aggressive approach towards them so your wife acted in self-defense just before she did . Not to mention the emotional stretch that was being placed on your wife and BIL. Who was being insulted and threatened by an idiot who didn’t know anything about him. And being a good protective sister she wasn’t about to let her keep disrespecting him and potentially attacking him. Which is why your wife smacked him. Anyone on the outside who wasn’t there my argue your wife was wrong. I bet if they were in her shoes or was even there to see exactly what was happening they would understand. If someone attacked my brother like that, I’d do the same thing. To me this boiled down to f*ck around and find out. She made inappropriate disrespectful remarks to that man for no reason other than the fact she’s a stupid b*tch.

Calling a disabled person, sorry - screaming at a disabled person that they are an abomination can definetly be considered hate speech and in many countries is considered an assault, thereby making the slap very much a self-defense. Also, good luck with the lawsuit considering that it seems that everyone at the gathering was on OP/Mike/Wife's side. Witness testimonies is what changes a situation like that from a "he said/she said" situation to an actual case. If all the witnesses are supporting your side of the situation, it's practically impossible to lose the lawsuit.

Okay, let's get something straight about that first story. OPs Wife did not start the violence, the Karen did! She got up, started screaming, getting in a Mothers face, calling a fellow human being an abomination against God, and refused to listen and deescalate the situation. Being held by an differently abled person wasn't making the baby cry, the Karen was! Delivering that slap was likely the only way to end the violence that was already occurring.

Please stop skipping over stuff because it's "dry" according to you. It's happening more and more, and sometimes you skip over important stuff or things that just would have been interesting to hear. I'm not here for a condensed version of Reddit stories. --And if you really don't want to read over it, at least display it on the screen so we can pause and read whatever is being skipped. EDIT: Holy crap, I was not trying to start a fight with this. I was just sharing something that's been annoying me more and more, and I tried to do it in a nice way. I'm not replying past this post, as I have better things to do with my life, but you're allowed to like something but still find flaws in it. I stand by my constructive criticism. I get some of you like the condensed versions of stories, but I wish it was easier to view/find the full stories for those of us that want it. That's why I like the idea of him posting it on the screen so those of us who want to read it can pause the video and do so, while those of you who want the condensed version can just continue listening. If he isn't going to do that, links to the original posts would be great, but I also know plenty of posts get deleted over time, and rSlash records way in advance. Again, I do enjoy listening to rSlash overall. This isn't an attack against him. For those saying I should leave, if I could only consume things I find zero flaws in, life would be really boring. For everybody with the nice comments or the ones disagreeing with me in a non-rude way, thanks! For the rude ones, don't be toxic fans and maybe go touch some grass. But I'm leaving this drama behind me, so have a nice life, everyone!

For story one speaking as someone who has special needs myself shouting to the degree that karen was is almost violence in it's own right. There is a reason Mike immedaitely went to cover his ears once he no longer had the baby in his hands and that is because sensory overload hurts like a mother fer. Sure it's not always a physical sort of pain and so you could argue it's not as bad. But in a lot of cases? It is a physical sort of pain. Those with sensory issues don't just take in sensory input differently though that is also true, we often are much more senstive to it than others. We take it more of it. It's like a dog whining and running from a room when someone falls and makes a loud sound. It's loud for us but it is even worse for the dog. Sensory overwhelm can and will manifest as physical pain as well as extreme discomfort like a constant itch inside your skull that also hurts and you can't do anything about it because this Karen won't stop shouting. Add on the emotional distress of after so long of working up the courage to believe you won't harm your nephew if you hold him only to have someone you don't even know shouting in your face that your mere physical contact with the baby is a threat to his health and that you are an abomination simply for how you were born and frankly I'm super proud of Mike for not doing more than just covering his ears while that lady shouted. He even waited until the baby was no longer in his hands to have the instinctual reaction his body was demanding of him! That is a whole f ton of self control from him to have. That Karen deserved to feel the kind of pain Mike was but since she can't because she isn't disabled then a slap is honestly a mercy. She should be grateful she doesn't have to deal with what Mike does on a daily basis because that would be true justice for what she did. I hope that Mike is able to see that he's done nothing wrong and that he did a wonderful job holding Ned and following all the rules he'd been told to follow. He seems like a wondeful person as does his sister for protecting him.

Sure, it may not have been the best choice given she was holding Ned but in that second she was probably thinking that no one else was helping her by stopping Karen so she had to do something to stop Karen...and she was also justifiably angry, lol. As a young person with dyslexia the only thing that held me back academically was the teachers and adults that surrounded me. Them believing I was going to fail made me well do as they expected. The second I taught myself how to succeed in that their views has nothing to do with my intelligence I started to do better than the so-called honor students. I have now graduated school a year early as an honor student. And I’m going into engineering school. Yes I still struggle with reading and comprehending things as fast as other people but as far as I know, I’m doing better than most of my peers. So never let someone determine you’re intelligent. I think her slapping the lady was warranted if for no reason but that it stopped the onslaught of noise. Very few people would hit a woman holding a baby and if that was her split second decision to stop the harassment, and clearly it was out of fear and protective instincts, then so be it. A slap won't cause further injury, and it will suck people into silence of only long enough to get them out of your face so you can walk away without them following closely behind you.

Well first off, the situation with the Karen in the first story wasn't nonviolent. She hadn't laid hands on anyone but she was scaring people, and she was shouting to the point that it hurt Mike's ears. That's violence. Second, by the time it escalated to the point that the wife hit the woman, they had already tried getting her to calm down and fuck off. Lastly, depending on where they are describing someone as an abomination from God absolutely rises to qualify as a legal term known as fighting words, which has been used for self-defense justifications

Even when I post a comment to disagree I never say he has a bad take, etc cause it's his channel and he can have whatever opinion he wants. Peopled today are so entitled.

GIVE him a unit? What is wrong with people? His renters pay rent...he pays his mortgage, property taxes, insurance, upkeep...how the hell is it 'free money'?! People need financial education BADLY

Honestly, OP's wife felt threatened and feared for the saftey of her, the baby, and her brother so a slap is something the Karen should have expected. NTA.

Once again a bad take (way too wishy washy) on story 1. The Karen was traumatizing the brother and baby. She wouldn't stop. Karen called a literal human being an "abomination". It wasn't going to de-escalate until it got physical. Wife did the best she could in the moment to get it all to stop.

Disagree, he was taking a middle of the road approach which is fine.

Especially given his take on the very next story. Story 1 take: you shouldn't hit someone who is screaming at a disabled person " Story 2: op should have hit the person making fun of a disabled person ". Pick a lane rslash.

Wow unvoicedapollo that was a terrible take on your part. You should really take a break from listening to reddit stories. It's making you toxic.

@seabass819 Rslash never said she was wrong for hitting Karen. It seem like he agreed with it. He did pick a lane.
