I don't know if it's the same as in France, but basically when you are sick you enter the special state of "arrêt maladie" (sick leave). In this state you still receive financial compensation but not paid by the employer but by the social security system. When you are on normal paid holidays (and not sick) your salary is paid by the employer. So if you enter "sick leave" state during your paid holiday, you also stop being under the responsibility of your employer, you get back into social security mode and the employer isn't paying your full salary anymore. That's why you should be able to get these days back later. From the point of view of the employer it's the same if you get sick during normal days or during paid holidays.

He said there are romanesque and gothic elements. If authentic the building dates from the middle ages. Of course this could be a reconstruction if the Allies reduced the original building to rubble in WW2

Ambulances are not for "free" in Germany. It's just that everyone has mandatory health insurance required by law. If you're a tourist and you don't have health insurance in Germany you will get a bill!

@@kdiesler Plus, of course, even where you get billed the amount charged will be a mere fraction of what you'd pay in the U.S., as the costs of medical procedures are regulated and the same everywhere in Germany.

@RadicalLiving. I saw a recipe for Wurstsalat in a German cookbook once, but it was very different. The sausage was cut into slices, and there were some onion rings, and (I think) some peas. Can’t remember exactly, it was a long time ago.
