Radish Cake 蘿蔔糕食譜 Lo Bak Go | How to make Radish Cake | Chinese New Year Foods 新年年菜 | Turnip Cake
Hey everyone, welcome back to g8stromania. Today, we will be sharing a recipe on Radish cake. It's often called Turnip Cake but the more accurate name should be Radish Cake. In Hokkien, Radish is called Cai Tao, which signifies 好彩头 or good luck in the coming year! A must have dish during Chinese new year.
For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
1kg Radish
100g Dried scallops
30g dried mushrooms
100g shallots
2 Chinese Sausages
250g Rice Flour
50g Tapioca Flour
10g Wheat Flour
600 ml water (keep the soaking liquid from the scallops and dried mushrooms for this)
Seasonings:
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tsp salt Total
1 tsp chicken stock powder
1.5 tsp white pepper powder total
1 tsp fish sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp sugar
Steps:
1. Prepare the cut ingredients
2. Stir fry the radish and add 1 tsp sugar. Keep the juices. Set aside after.
3. Fry scallops until fragrant
4. Add mushrooms and chinese sausage and fry till fragrant. Season.
5. Set aside for later use.
6. Mix flours and water.
7. Heat up flours and add in the radish. Let it reach a boil, then turn to low flame.
8. Once it starts to thicken, add in the other prepared ingredients.
9. Cook at low heat slowly and let it thicken.
10. Once it gets sufficiently thicken, transfer to steaming tray.
11. Cling wrap and steam for 50 minutes.
12. Cool down and cut.
13. Optionally, pan fry them to make it more fragrant.
