On the Friday morning of December 17 2021, I myself was one among the VERY MANY who made the trip to Orangeville to see and record the VERY LAST Train to ever run out of Orangeville on the last remaining 36 miles of what was originally the very old CPR Owensound Subdivision (tracks north of Orangeville to Owensound were abandoned October 31 1995).
For nearly a 6hr stretch of time from 6:45am-12:30pm that day, I recorded almost a full half hr’s worth of Footage of the very last OBRY servicing Orangeville for the final time in the early morning, the 3hr chase south (lucky for us Trillium took it slow this day at 10-15mph allowing for many more photo/video locations) as well as the approximate half hr of switching in Streetsville where 333 set off the final cars from Orangeville in one of the yard tracks for CP T-14 to pick up and finally creeping into the engine siding there to call it a day ( As of January 31 2022, 333 is apparently STILL SITTING THERE, was suppose to go back to Trilliums main base in Welland near St Catherine’s but it’s been well over a month now, wonder why that may be?).
Anyhow I hope you all enjoy this historic video and any questions please feel free to ask in the comments below! I’ll be sure to get back to you and answer every question as best as I can!
* Btw want to see the last regular run of this train? Proud to say I captured that movement too 2 weeks earlier on December 3, here is the SB chase that day: • RAIL HISTORY!! The LAS...

Very nice video! It was certainly a somber day but the turnout of railfans impressed me and showed how much we all care about the closure of such a historic line. I managed to make it over there (I am in at least 1 of the clips lol) and I'm very glad I did. Fantastic documentary of such a historic and unfortunate event!

Thank you very much for the nice comment and yep I seen your video also (it was nice)👍 and actually seen that I made a brief appearance in one of your clips too, in your second angle shot by McLaughlin rd. Yes it sure was nice to see how many were able to make it out and show their appreciation for this rail line by being there to witness the last train! A somber day forsure but forever we’ll have the memories to cherish!

Thank you! Yeah very sad indeed but for me honestly I’d say the line has been gone ever since CANDO left. Blue MP15AC just wasn’t the same, definitely not the worse but just about everyone else much preferred the CANDO geeps. Especially with the fact that they had the honours of being the Host for Southern Ontario’s Most Scenic Rail Tour from 2004-2018. But shame to see it go forsure, thanks for your comment!

Good video. Too bad...once the tracks are gone, their gone. Could have been a busy "GO" route, but they won't figure that out until they notice that they have a lot of people moving out that way.

Hi Graydon; I've been looking forward to this film. It was a brilliant tribute for the now fallen flag OBYR and historians and railfans in the future can look forward to enjoying your work done on Dec. 17th, 2021. Honestly it is a mystery to me as to how you managed to accomplish getting to so many crossings - so good work on that account. I was a pleasure meeting you at end of line that day. James.

Thank you very much for your comment James! Regarding how I was able to make it to all em crossings, just gotta remember that this is the rail line I grew up with so it definitely should be alright to say that I should know it almost as well as the railway crew🤣. The fact that they were able to go a bit slower than usual (10-15mph max unlike the ordinary 25) sure made it possible also for me to squeeze in as many crossings as I could. Great to meet you too on Dec 17 and honestly I always kind of wished I shot the train at the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park also but after seeing that you obtained some drone footage of it there, glad I choose the Charleston Sideroad Underpass instead because I’m sure your footage from the drone will be AMAZING!! Great meeting you that day also, hope you and your family stay safe and well 👍. Btw just for a little laugh, here is a old video recorded when I was 10 in the summer of 2010 the first time I ever saw the OBRY kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZryKft2gzc3RYmg.html

I cannot tell you exactly what I was doing at 10, but I think that my brother and I were bicycling around Hamilton rail yards with a Brownie box camera we shared. @@FrogandFlangeVideo yes my mom brought me there that morning as it was during summer break & both her and my sister got in the shot at the right in the 2010 video. -honestly at that time I was quite a bit nervous about how loud the horn was gonna be since my ears were rather sensitive at that age and a downtown resident already did discribe the OBRY as a train we can’t miss since it’s so loud when it comes through so that’s what it was a bit more concerned of instead of what was in my shot but luckily in the end the horn wasn’t too loud for me. This 2010 video (only had a few from that summer) of a NB 11 car train was definitely the best I think of mine at that time lol kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9-gfNVhndWzgqM.html

@@NscalefromOntario Good times for sure. When I was a young kid my Mom drove me around the countryside one summer day chasing CN 6218. Sounds like we both had great moms. lol. BTW I finally made a start in the editing work on the last day material. Obviously I am way behind most of other creators of similar films and the rough publication date is looking like mid March. Stay safe. James.

Not to sound rude but they didn't "take back" 2 miles of the Owen Sound track in Streetsville. CP has always owned that and they have never sold it off.

Its because nobody else knows the railway well. Only locals and businesses relying on the railway do. If it was more known it could've been more profitable.

Very interesting! Unlike BCRY’s discontinued Collingwood side.. it sure looks like they want them line up ASAP for the rail trail 🚴 🚴 🚴 Guess they’ve begun near Broadway rd I bet & will work there way south? Any clue what’s to become of the land by Orangeville Yard? Will the station continue to stand for the coming decades like in Owensound on both the CN & CP sides?

@@NscalefromOntario Yes they did start there heading south. No information on the land or the station yet but there is some rumours that CP might abandon there section down to interchange from Atwood

@@PaulHunter23 guess beginning at Atwood Lane in Mississauga to Downtown Brampton is where the trackage land sold for $24.5M? And the fate of the line & Railway right of way north of Downtown Brampton still has yet to be completely decided? *I know that now it definitely was a huge benefit now for Orangeville with regards to never re-building the interchange with CN & selling off/abandoning the tracks south of Downtown Brampton when OBRY was first formed (because of how much the land value increased since 2 decades back) but when I come to think of it, back in about 2000 would there have been all that many obstacles with regards to re-building the interchange with CN? Because I believe I read that just about all the OBRY traffic initially came from CN & then was forwarded to CP before CP took it to Streetsville and occasionally it was even billed as Interchanged at Brampton?? If you don’t happen to know much here it’s alright I understand, I’m sure many would just consider it very odd for nothing to ever become of re-building the old CN Interchange because up until 2007 both switches to the weed-infested Interchange always remained in place, nearly 20yrs after interchanging at Brampton was originally discontinued which I believe I read was somewhere mid-late 1980s.

I feel you, not really the Trillium era but when I think back to 2016-18, boy do I miss the CANDO 4014 & 4015 gp9rms😔. Really REALLY wish I had gotten some better video footage of them when they were still running this line. Every time I even think of personal memory’s of mine from let’s say 2017 I am reminded of how the OBRY looked at that time… Ah well guess life has to move on, I’m sure every adult rail buff out there has a rail line (or maybe even plenty) that they wish they payed more attention too at a younger point in their life. Each day is a gift for everyone I’m told & agree with so best we can do now is just accept the way things are and look towards the future

I wonder how much time the line past Orangeville has left… I visited the Brampton Diamond and everything seemed completely intact the signals were still on 1 year later. Also wasn’t there talk of saving the Brampton portion of the line? Is the plan still going through?

Hmmmm tracks south of Orangeville have been sold to the Municipalities they run through ( Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga) and seem to have id say as long as until whenever the municipalities figure out how and when they will get working on the project of removing the rails. Orangeville was the quickest of them all to Ching into action as soon as it was possible (spring 2022 once snow was melted) to remove the rails in their city for rail-trail conversion. - It’ll definitely be interesting to see how much longer the dormant rails south or Orangeville last. Could be gone as early as by the summers end of this year if municipality’s decide to Ching into action or if it’s not necessarily their biggest priority at the moment… could remain still for several more years and possibly even longer than that *In Spring of 2022, yes it was talked about just a little bit on to possibly saving the line within the major urban cities of Mississauga and Brampton for a commuter service but with the most recent news articles I’ve read, dosent seem like it’ll be happening. www.mississauga.com/news-story/10676958-what-s-going-on-here-there-s-going-to-be-a-trail-running-through-mississauga-and-brampton-as-well-as-caledon-and-orangeville/

At Bovaird?? Haha funny thought/idea forsure but honestly never would have crossed my mind on its own😆 I also wanted to get to downtown as quick as possible because I already knew there was was a risk I’d miss the train at Downtown if went to Bovaird depending on Halton Sub activity but I rolled the dice & luckily it got stuck behind a GO which barely gave me enough time to make it to Nelson (cause of the Urban traffic lights & such). I beat the Train only by like a minute to Nelson, they were already blowing for Railroad when I first pulled to the crossing. If I was a bit sooner, decent chance I may have filmed at Park st. Also a good chance I think that the maintainer would have said no honestly, especially with the new plans on keeping the rail corridor intact in the Urban committees which possibly will serve as a future metrolink expansion for GO for the right of way north of the Halton.

And as stated by Paul Hunter in another comment down below (who is actually well in the know with the OBRY), only reason they removed the 2 Gates a little early at Bovaird was because they were severely damaged in the windstorm a couple days prior.
