On the Saturday morning of June 25 2022, I set out to Orangeville to spend a few hrs touring around what’s now the Abandoned Orangeville Brampton Railway short line and thought a handful of my viewers up here would also be a little interested to see the state of the line before it gets pulled up for good and converted into a rail-trail. peelregion.ca/news/archiveite...
Kind of unclear still as to when exactly the rail-trail conversion project will get underway but whenever it dose start I think I definitely are to film a little bit of that protect also. *If anyone here happens to know anything more about the project and it’s anticipated start date please feel free to share in the comments down below?
-In March when they first began removing the tracks in Orangeville, I recall a source first mentioning that the entire 36mile line could be all ripped up by July of this year but that obviously wasn’t the case since it’s August 6 as I post this video so I guess really only time will tell for sure in the very end.
*NOTE the Urban city limits at the end**
Regarding my comment at the end of the video at the last crossing I filmed at in Brampton (6 Lane Bovaird Dr) about the possibility of that portion of the line potentially being ‘redeemed’ for a commuter service…. yes for now at least the Brampton municipality (as well as Mississauga’s for the few miles the rail line occupies in their city leading up to Streetsville junction) seems to have decided to leave the railway right of way in place ‘for now’ within their urban city limits because with the populations growing I guess there still is a chance that this rail corridor could eventually end up benefiting the major city’s by offering a commuter service to the growing urban residents.
-What has been talked about for now at least was possibly a expansion of GO Transit service from the CN/Metrolink Halton Subdivision in Downtown Brampton : • OBRY in Summer 2016!! ... , 4-5 miles north to Snelgrove to help Northern Brampton & Caledon commuters if Metrolink end up deciding it’s worth an investment and will eventually become profitable for their company.
-Regarding the SOUTHERN portion of the now ‘dormant’ OBRY short line from the Halton Sub Diamond to Streetsville Junction (8 miles total there), there has been some talk also about using it for possibly an expansion of the new Hurrontario street LRT (Light Rail Transit) which is currently being built in the southern city limits of Brampton and into Mississauga but again they both were just a couple idea’s that the urban municipalities thought of and and I guess really only time will tell if anything ever becomes of them.
Thank you for viewing👍

Nice tour! I was able to tour Orangeville before and after rail removal and was devastated finding the teardrop bell gone.

The running of the railway line was extremely expensive ! All Orangeville residence paid for its operation through taxes . Now that the railway line is gone , Are the taxes adjusted because of this ? I highly doubt it ! Taxes are brutally high in Orangeville !

I went up to Orangeville today and there were big changes the crews were starting to create the trail by removing a ton of ties, paving over Crossings and taking down all of the lights and crossbucks except for Broadway and townline

Very interesting, thanks for the info! Definitely think I’ll be going back mid September to film the very late summer state of the line after having had the entire summer for overgrowth as well as a fall video in mid October

@@kieranbricker3278 I did but the crews there were not in charge of the signal removal side of the removal.

I'm pretty sure that the railway tracks in Mississauga will be taken out at some point and converted into a trail. The Region of Peel annouced in July of this year that the railway would be converted into a trail. I highly doubt that this corrider will ever be used for passenger or freight rail service ever again.

Will they be keeping the industrial tracks near the 401 and seems to be some businesses there that could use them. And who would be the supplier the CP Rail or another Short Line take over that short piece of track

Yes all throughout OBRYs era, the one industry just north of the 401 overpass (known as Katoen Natie Canada) was always CP served,CP H24 (I believe is the job that serves them) dose so couple times a week I believe.

I miss this line by the way I had a couple of questions does the Orangeville railway crossing still work after it went abandoned, and are they remaking the railway or is in done completely.

Townline road?? Hmmm if the railway signal maintainers were to open up the box at the side of the crossing and turn the signals on manually by pushing a button (like how all railways have maintenance crewmen occasionally test all signals on crossings with lights and/or gates), quite possibly they’d still turn on. The Orangeville Brampton Railway is done completely, virtually impossible for it to somehow be brought back to life now. In the urban city limits of Mississauga and Brampton, not sure if you watched to the very end regarding my comment about that portion of the line possibly being preserved and redeemed for commuter service ideas? But for all we know there is a rather slight chance that something may become of the idea that the rail line may be a benefit for the urban cities growing populations by offering a commuter service. What has been talked about ‘a little’ for now at least was possibly a expansion of GO Transit service from the Halton Subdivision in Downtown Brampton, 4(ish) miles north towards Snelgrove to help Northern Brampton and Caledon Commuters using the former OBRY trackage if Metrolink ends up deciding it’s worth an investment and will eventually be profitable for their company? (GO trains couldn’t have made it all the way to Orangeville, number of obstacles in the way of that but possibly Snelgrove)? Regarding the former OBRY trackage south of the Halton Sub Diamond towards Streetsville Junction with CP, what was talked about just a little was possibly a expansion of the new Hurrontario LRT (Light Rail Transit) using some of the former OBRY right of way but just a small idea brought to the table nevertheless, honestly would not hold my breath to anything really becoming of them but sometimes you just never know.

the railway likely shut off the crossings and removed the batteries after the last train to prevent the crossings from the possibility of randomly turning on
