@@25aspooner if the truck is under warranty when it lets go, doesn't Ram have to foot the bill? I would hope so. But, if they accepted culpability, that would mean they acknowledge it is a problem, and would have to pay for all that recall work on every diesel ram since 07. God forbid, and the executives will try as hard as they can to pay out as little as possible.

It's bad enough these trucks cost what they do, but to top it off, who tf knows if/when you'll need to do a $30k repair. A lot of guys rely on their truck to make a living, either partly or entirely. How are they going to make those fat payments if the the truck goes down? Can they kick the working man while he's down any harder?

Cummins needs a law suit

Everyone who has had a problem should get a mass lawsuit lawyer and go after either dodge or cummins for the flaw and damages. They surely would re-engineer it after that.

@bankspower My 2019 Ram was leaking oil, so we took it to a shop in Kingman, Arizona. They diagnosed it. They were going to charge me 3,100.00 and told me it was the oil pan gasket and the timing gasket. So we decided to get a 2nd opinion, drove it to Lake Havasu Az, Canyon Country has had it for a few weeks, they cleaned the engine, put a tracing agent in my truck and discovered it was the grid heater bolt. It didn't fall into my engine, but the gentleman told us all the bolts were only hand tightened . So, I'm eliminating the grid heater and putting a bank system in. I have no pictures to send you. Should get my truck back next week.

@@toiletpaper5770 Because overtime the grid heater bolt basically corrodes over time and if you wiggle it you can brake small pieces or even the entire nut off and it will fall into your cylinder. Many people do a grid heater delete to combat this issue, and from personal experience these 6.7s start just fine in the winter

@@toiletpaper5770 The do start just fine in the winter without the grid heater. Maybe in sub zero F temps it might be necessary or better to have it but not in 0+ F. I recommend the wiggle test to be sure it is okay then disconnect the relay that feeds it. I have never heard anyone mention corrosion as an issue, just overheating/melting of the bolt. I've not heard of anyone having a failure after disconnecting the relay, which would likely be the case if they were failing from corrosion too. I figure all the soot on the threads will keep the nut from spinning off even if it came loose.

The stock grid doesn't melt from the relay sticking on, the bolt used to conduct electricity does. The banks heating element doesn't have that weak point. That said, had they placed the element on the other side of the pipe, if it were to burn up, it wouldn't drop into the intake.

It doesn’t. Think about it, if the engine is running, which would be, then this is just a fancy looking paint job failure as well. When you are shorting metal to induce heat, then eventually all parts can fail. The best option would be no heater that spoofs computer into thinking it’s working. Trucks start fine without heat, but EPA wouldn’t all ow that. Buy what you want, this is same as factory with lipstick

​@@wildeman7443you can get rid of the grid heater and retain emissions equipment.

If they designed it properly then it won't melt down even if its stuck "on" and the computer should still be throwing a fault code letting you know the heater is malfunctioning. If that is the case then you have to replace the solenoid that controls the heater switching on and off.

They do for 2013-2018 and even for California but not earlier

I’ve been looking for that answer as well. Even my dealer is giving me conflicting answers.

Since it doesn't change any parameters of how engine runs it shouldn't but if they can find a way to void it to stick you with the bill for a new engine expect them to try.

All I saw is that they have to prove that this mod caused the failure of the part they are warranting. With that being said, if they do decide to deny it, you can cancel the extended warranty, and they will prorate it per year and give you your money back for the extended warranty. Examples: If you install this and have electronic issues with the radio, the radio should still be under warranty. If you have a 6in lift with warranty and front end bushings go out, don't expect them to warranty it. I just order it...I think with all this information I'll take my chances with warranty over a new engine or have them rebuild it.

I was replacing the grid relay on my 1997 Ram 5.9 cummins when I inadvertently grounded my wedding band to the 1/4" ratchet tightening the battery cable. Melted a chunk out of the gold band. Also provided me with a permanent scar/brand for a band now.😮
