Yes, that is what I shoot in my .308 Win and I get complete pass throughs on most shots, with the exception of two elk at 300+ yards, when the bullet was recovered under the hide on the opposite shoulder. Thanks for watching.

Hi, I really enjoy your filmed hunts. I hunt mule deer and moose, Iron sights all the way! :D Where I hunt we dont have a problem with wood ticks, but my hunting grounds are slowly expanding, and I was curious what is your experience and opinion on dealing with wood ticks on over night hunts etc.? Cheers from BC

Because ID has the latest drawing results of all states. By the time the other states have done their drawings, we usually have the tags we need. As a result, ID ends up being left off the list. I will be there this season for a late archery deer hunt. Thanks for watching.

Curious Jason, where are you moving from? A few years back, Randy wrote a magazine article, in which magazine I don't recall, but he talked about having lived in Minnesota much of his life then in moving to Montana he had to learn to hunt all over again because it's a whole new ball game. Having moved from northern Michigan to northwestern Wyoming, I found his story rang clear and true with me because even though I was a successful hunter in Michigan, I struggled for several seasons in Wyoming. It was Randy's article that showed me what I was doing wrong and once I set out to learn the ways of hunting in the mountains, I found success. Maybe Randy can recall which magazine it was so that you can hopefully find it, but I would heartily recommend reading it. By the way... thanks for that article Randy, you helped me a bunch.

I am moving from Washington state. Thanks for the heads up, I love learning new ways to hunt. I've hunted in Montana a few times before. The terrain is very similar to what we have here in Washington where I hunt. I can't wait to learn the area and techniques and to meet some people to show me around. Let me know if you find that article, I'm very interested in reading it. Montana is my idea of heaven on earth. I can't believe I actually get to finally live there!!!

I feel the same way about Wyoming. I didn't get to move here until I was 44 years old, but I dreamed about it most of my life. There's an old saying that if you want something too much you'll likely be disappointed when you get it... let's just say that after almost 10 years I'm still living the dream without a moment's disappointment. I had considered Bozeman first, but the housing costs were extremely high because it's a college town. It was also a pretty big town (I left a town of 350 in Mich) and I really wanted something smaller. Cody just seemed to fit my desires and although I'd never set foot in Cody or Wyoming before, as I drove the moving truck into town I had the deepest and most sincere feeling of coming home. Unlike most transplants, I don't refer to Michigan as "home" or "back home" or anything of the sort. Wyoming is home, the place I was meant to be. I actually have nightmares occasionally about visiting Michigan (which I do because I have family there) and not being able to get home to Wyoming. You won't be disappointed my friend... dreams do come true.

Thanks for the encouragement! I've never been to Bozeman, I'll be visiting there this summer and moving there next summer. I do know it's where I'm supposed to be. Wish it was a little cheaper cost of living though!

VicJackpotRider the tikka t3x lite stainless is a good one that comes left handed. They have it in everything from .223, 22-250, .243, 6.5 creed, 30-06, 7 mag, .270 WSM, .300 win, etc. ranges from $700-900. 5.9 pounds for non magnums, 6.3 for magnums. Tikkas are very good and have an MOA guarantee with a very smooth action. Of course, there are many other options, but that seems to fit your needs quite well. You can check sportsmanswarehouse.com for more info on it!

Being in Montana , I will tell you our hunting is awesome, that said we are getting a lot of anti hunters here from more liberal states. This is causing a lot of tensions here in SW Montana between hunters and the anti's from California, Oregon and Washington. Randy I hate to correct you on elk and roads but we hit elk here everyday on the roads/ highways, they are not afraid of roads, thats is not a factual statement , I know I live here. Max Baucus, was cast out of office by Montanans 90 % of which are hunters whats that tell you, he wasn't that great.He voted for Diane Feinstein's gun ban, so whats that tell you as a hunter.
@Fresh_Tracks
@Fresh_Tracks 5 жыл бұрын
Every study shows elk prefer to be away from roads. Yes, they at times will be near roads, especially when it is not hunting season. I live in MT, too. When it comes to rifle season, I am hunting areas away from roads. The mature bull elk have figured out where to go when the shooting starts.
