Just stripped one down recently for restoration, my blade support bearings were shot and needed removing. Love to see a video of someone doing that, a lot of bleeping on film I reckon ! Finally got mine out but what a job.

There is a manual and parts break down on the old lawnmower site which I am a member.A atco standard would be a nice one for you to find and do a nice 1920s mower but built to the standard of the Dennis mowers of the time.

Nice video and a good decision to leave that bar in the ally side panel Mick, I've had lots of problems over the years with ally and steel oxidising and fusing together, I was shouting No No don't do it 🤣🤣

Hi Mick, I have just acquired the same model mower and would like to backlap it to try and improve the edge a bit. Looking at that gear mechanism I was trying to work out if I could spin it backwards somehow and would value your opinion and advise please. As that large cog is left hand drive I assume I could put a socket and drill on that to spin the reel backwards but maybe it's not that simple, please could you help. PS Great job with that restoration, I just wish I was able to do similar to mine.

@@saltburnsam you will need to remove the middle gear mate .m first remove the cylinder gear.. then the middle one.. put the cylinder one back on and spin backwards.. that's how I did it mate

@@themowerman wow that was a quick reply, many thanks. If it worked for you I'm sure it will for me but I was guessing spinning the cylinder gear backwards with it having a right hand thread would just slacken the nut ? Guess it's a balance between tightening the nut and the friction during backlapping.

Thats an absolute beauty , remember the old guy next to my Grans had one like that , and the ticking sound when he pulled it backwards was just infectious. Think his rear roller had like a rubber ribbed grip on it. Can’t wait to see it when you finish it Big Fella 👍 Tam.

These videos convinced to buy one and give it a go so thanks for the inspiration Mick. The cylinder spins well but also spins backwards when the mower is pulled back. That doesn't happen with yours and instead you get the clicking sound. Not sure if this causes any issue but any idea which part would be at fault? Thanks

Must be a problem with the roller.. you might have it round the wrong way round

Great video I’ve followed it to a T The bearings on the cylinder We’re your bearing housings floppy ? Dunno if they are suppose to be floppy or that means my bearings have gone ?? Yet it turns and spins fairly smoothly

You’ve got a little bit more room than Neil at fix it or stripit Mick, he’s a good entertainer like yourself and ends up with a great job when completed. You sound a bit snotty Sir. I never expected those bars to be 4 separate pieces! Did you? It looks really smooth before dismantling too. My dad had a similar mower, back breaking just watching him. He did the neighbours too, lifting it over a 4ft wall, utter madness 🤣🤣🤣. Square nuts, good old days, outlive us both. How come them rollers aren’t rotten? The cogs or gears debate is age old isn’t it. Love the restoration videos, great video. That theory never works with my mate who worked in a foundry, cut his way in, weld his way out was his motto.

I dismantled my mower to sharpen the blades and give it a general cleanup. However, I made the rookie mistake of saying I'll remember every part for when I reassemble it. I have a large washer left over which is not the washer from the rolling pins. Do you have any idea as to where it would go? I can't find anything online nor can I find anywhere that would look like it fits
