I agree so much. Loved the combat during the demo but from what I've seen from other people play, it reminds me way too much of Borderlands 3. You have these *annoying,* unlikable people in your ear constantly yammering at you with no way to shut them up. The world is dead, with boring NPCs. I'm going to be honest, Ranton is one of the only popular video game review/commentary youtubers I know who actually looks at the positive aspects of video games that the internet collectively deems bad or awful. Its a breath of fresh air when almost everything else is negativity. Watching this man review a game is an experience. As for the game, I saw a comment somewhere that Forspoken is like a tech demo that was then later stretched into a game. From what I see and hear about it. Makes sense to put it that way.

I really like the story of the villain character (spoilers if you care): It having been created for revenge, being belittled and underestimated throughout the events of the game, being given a name it didn't want, traumatized by the death of the people who created it, and then in the end being shown mercy, being given the opportunity to choose its own name and by such its identity.... chefs kiss. I love that kind of narrative. That said I'm not paying 70$ just cos i like one character lol

I did enjoy the game and absolutely loved the combat and traversal. But I have to say the really annoying thing about the chests, even the fucking puzzle box chests that guarantee a coin that is supposed to be a rare valuable currency, is that that rare valuable currency becomes useless after a very short time. There are three merchants in the main city, only two of them even take those coins, one sells cat toys and the other random upgrades you can put on cloaks. And both of them sell their stuff for extremely cheap prices. So once you've bought it all you would think theres no point to even collecting the coins anymore because nobody else takes them. The third merchant only takes these little dolls that you get from following some of the cats around the city, and again only two out of five of his items are unique, ones a cloak, another is I think a necklace or nail design and then the other three are just " rare " crafting items that you also will collect way too much of and will no longer have a use for later. Here's the really wierd thing though. In the very last tanta land you go to, the one with an ugly green tint everywhere? Yeah there's actually ahouse with a secret merchant break zombie who for some reason is completely sentient and fine and can talk, even though every other person ever infected with the break dies or becomes a mindless beast. And he actually sells some pretty cool and useful stuff for the coins. And his shit is moderately expensive. Problem is like ranton said there are no missions or other little quests anywhere near him and by the time you've found him or figured out he's even there? You've probably already finished the fucking game, like I had done. And at that point his cool items that actually could have been helpful are now useless.

Sadly I cannot deal with the character I'm forced to play the whole way through. I'm sure I could eventually enjoy eating turds and enjoying the soft spots rather than the nuts but I don't care to force myself through it when I have loads of other games to enjoy right away.

You completely nailed this. I'm 15 hours into Forspoken and it's a different game! Man I've having a blast. I almost gave up at the 6 hour mark. Around 8 hours and suddenly it's transformers into a different game. Why the developers padded this game for 8 hours is just nuts. If they were to do an update and strip out the first 8 hours and let people start the game at Chapter 4..... whole different ballgame. It's a shame because after 8-10 hours, very fun game!

I have to say while I have not played it (not my sort of thing) one of my buddies who loves these types of games, said basically what you said. He had really been looking forward to and felt there was good stuff in the game but to many of its short coming get in the way and don't let you enjoy it. He literally told me he was going to put it down and come back to it at a later date when he was less frustrated with the game. That said I am going all off what he said as I have not played it, though looking at its reported development cycle Ranton is probably right in saying it like it's been pulled apart many times. There was an idea for a good game in there somewhere, but it's been cut up a sewn back together so many times you can see what it was originally supposed to be.

This is why I fucking love Anton’s videos, they are just so dense. He crams 20 minutes of writing and editing into a 12 minute video, it’s immaculate

I just watched your review and I got to say you've convinced me to try this game...when it goes on sale lol. How you felt about this game reminds me of the OG Nier back in 2010 in some ways, though the story and music were the highlights and not the gameplay like it is here. A significant portion of the game was just fetch quests that are slowly leading you to the main plot, which gets really good in the 2nd half. That game wasn't particularly good overall, but was a highly memorable experience for those that stuck with it for the story. I appreciate you taking the time to suffer through the game to give a solid and hilarious review of the actual pros and cons, instead of being all like "1/10, no heart, graphics bad".
