I'd love to do a raptor! My uncle did many of them back in the 50's before the regulations regarding birds of prey took place in the 60's. Beautiful work my friend. He had barn owls, screech owls, great horned owls and several species of hawks as I remember. No eagles though.

I'm so amazed at how perfect your birds look. I've been doing bird taxidermy for a few years now and while each one I do gets a little better, I still am not happy with them. I know that I am harsh on myself and others do not see the mistakes that I do, but I hope one day I am as good as you. I'm thinking maybe I need to spend more time grooming the feathers ..i think that is my issue..but as always, great work Ben ❤️ you are amazing

Thank you 🙏… practice , study and practice more. Remember if you keep practicing the same thing without figuring out the flaws you will only get faster and not better , You have to find the flaws and work on them to get better.

I got to get myself a space to work so I can start learning this trade!! Every time I watch your videos I get inspired to at least try. Lol. What has been your most challenging bird mount in all the years you’ve been doing this? Are there any particular species that are easier/harder than others to mount?

You should... if you have an interest in wildlife and also enjoy detailed jobs, you might never stop once you start... The most challenging bird?.... I cant name one since they are all kind of fun, different fun.. but in general the most challenging jobs in bird taxidermy are the ones that are in deep moult, or has been badly electrocuted, ot heavily damaged on the road... so I guess their condition and feather quality makes them to be a fun one or a challenging one, not necessarily their kind.

If i could only "hair spray" the groomed bird after im done . Your feathers look like they are treated and stiff-er than normal. 🏆

😄 you don’t want anything on the feathers. Absolutely nothing. It will ruin your mount. I even wash the birds a couple of times to remove the natural preening oil from them.

@@ArtofTaxidermy i always comment on the cohesiveness of your feathers , yes i over wash my birds . i now believe birds from water enviroment have some component of water proofing to their feathers that always makes them look greasy and feathers that are not as cohesive as highland and other enviroment birds. Except in your case ! Thank you , great advice.

@@ArtofTaxidermy I used to use Dawn dish soap to wash my birds but the last couple years I started using Tide with oxy. In MY opinion, it does a better job of degreasing birds.

@@vic5828 Im sure there are lots of products out there in the market that we havent found out about them yet.. just make sure and pay attention to the quality of the feathers after washing, as long as the delicate feathers on some individual birds stays soft and not burnt, you are ok.
