I'm smiling man! How can't you luv this core-3????? As a guy who has watched the NBA for 40+ years, the Raptors since '96 - I can tell you, IQ is a stats filling guy, who improves your team. He doesn't sit back, he takes over. We haven't had a PG like this since Lowry, and before that you have to go all the way back to Mighty Mouse DS before we can boast about a take over PG. The man is a 20+ per, with chucky stats everywhere else, type of player. A future all-star - great core 3 with SB, IQ, and our brother-in-arms RJ (who was running down at will like Giannis, and driving the net with unstoppable force during his brief playing time at the end of last season - he figured something out).

5 years $175 million I'm glad he got paid. I thought the Knicks would keep him but that OG trade was worth it. IQ got paid more than Brunson, RJ, and Randle. Now y'all have your PG of the future. I'm happy for IQ. Y'all still have more moves to make.

@@MykeLeung In terms of value you're damn right I'm comparing the 2. NY thought RJ's contract was literally an albatross because they weren't using him properly. Now he's an absolute steal for 26M. Say what you want to about OG - I loved him with the Raps, but 43M AOV for an oft-injured 3 and D guy with weak handles and little offensive improvement over 7 years is NOT any kind of value. The Knicks thought they'd be able to lock him in for 30-35M, but paying him 48M in his age 31 year is the actual albatross.

Sometimes we need to understand we have to give some of these players a little extra to play here. We have some of the highest taxes out of most NBA cities and you’re asking some young player to leave his country to go to another country and live. This is why soccer players get paid ridiculous amounts of money. Look Rolando is playing all the way in the Middle East but they have to pay for that. We have almost always overpaid guys to stay here. This isn’t Miami, LA, NYC or some basketball Mecca with crazy history where guys have dreams of playing. Sometimes you’re asking some guy from Alabama or somewhere to move to Toronto Canada where almost everything is different. Some people here think you can always draw these guys with “caribana” an American person might be totally coulees and loss to Caribbean culture.

It'll be a cheap contract in 3 yrs on your cap hit and he's now operating in an offense with less mouths to fill. It could be a steal very fast similar to Brunson

quickly may very well be worth this contract... one day. he is currently unproven to receive this salary, but that is how things go sometimes. you put your faith on educated guesses and hope for the best. what quickly does have is work ethic, strong character and a high ceiling. as for gary, he will EASILY get $25m+ elsewhere so there is no way he is staying. gonna miss gary and wish him all the best.

Actually not bad for value - great 3-level scorer, quick and able to run the offence. Look at the fair market value for similar guards, it's not that bad.

One thing i feel so optimistic and now hyped, is to see the future of this Raptors team. We saw a slight glimpse of what this team can be when they had that small 3-0 streak after Scotties All star nod. Then the injuries came and had a collapse..but a learning collapse cause it was a new team after the trades. RJ, IQ and Gradey just kept improving their game. Now add an even more improved Scottie and the new drafts (given some time), and this teams gonna dominate the league. As a fan since 95, the way this team has been assembled by Masai, I have never been so convinced this team is gonna be so good as the years go by.

On paper a step below but OG and Siakam clearly weren't a good fit with Barnes or maybe they just wanted to move on. Either way RJ and IQ are tight and Scottie basically gets along with everyone.

Chris Boucher and Bruce Brown can be used as Salary relief for other teams by the trade deadline... a lot of Playoff teams are over the first apron and likely want to make other moves and want the flexibility to dump Salary and the Raps are one of few teams with expiring contracts that can be call upon to facilitate, it will cost them a "Sacramento Kings ransom" and more lol

I think they need to keep Trent. He could earn more and still be a steal defensively, and he is an offensive threat, albeit an inconsistent one. Secondly. If you watched the post draft interviews with the new guys, you had a solid sense Quickly was coming back

They are still paying less for Quickley, RJ, and Scottie than they would have had to pay Fred, O.G. and Pascal. And they got some other assets on top of that. It'll be interesting to evaluate this in a few years.

I think that puts us over the cap just retaining most of the guys that gave us 25-57 record last year. Actually it is worse because we will lose Trent jr. now we have no money left and next year lose Boucher and have to scramble to find money for Barnes. Looks like a very tough situation. Maybe a decade long rebuild? I love Quickley and am happy about this deal but the business as a whole is being run very poorly at the moment.

Wow, surprised at the amount for Quickly. Crazy! But I guess you have to after trading OG. Yah, GTJ will not be back to save money especially as you got Grady, Ja’Kobe and Sasha Vezenkov now all playing a similar role. Let’s hope next year is a lot more fun to watch!

Bruce brown's team option will be picked up. salary cap relief for teams is at a premium. i believe teams will trade for him to get a 1 year expiring of 23 million for a serviceable player for playoff teams. i dont think knicks are in on him now, but its possible mavericks, golden state, lakers and possibly hawks may trade for him. chicago really depends on if they are able to resign derozan. if bulls resign derozan then i can see them trading brown for lonzo contract.

It’s not that he didn’t want to or think that pascal wasn’t worth the money it’s that he didn’t fit there anymore with Scotty barns and the direction we are going it didn’t make sense so we got something for him before he walked , just to be clear he definitely would have loved to keep him if we still had that type of team that was just a smart business decision

If we can trade Brown ($22M), Poetl ($19.5M), Trent ($18.5M), Boucher ($11.75M), that is $71.75M per year. You can buy a lot of good young talent and train them up to their potential for that. That would buy a "golden bench" and give our young guys a lot of room to grow. We could also bank that money and go after a great young player or two.

Even if we drafted new guards, they're brand new and not immediately NBA ready. Not keeping GTJ would be the same as getting rid of Scottie because we attained a rookie playing the same position. It doesn't make sense to not keep an awesome player and expect a rookie to outperform in GTJ's production.

GTJ will help a contending team, but he is a bench player, a gunner off the bench - and when you are asking for 25+ a year, there are cheaper options, like rookie contracted players who can come off the bench and hit 3's with a lot less money. But he'll get paid somewhere, probably a lower middle pack team who has the cap money and hope to make the play-offs. .

with sasha vezenkov and davion mitchell contracts of around 12 million, it eats up gary trents money to sign him. sasha vezenkov and grady dick can replace garys production at a cheaper price combined than what gary trent jr is asking for which is 17-20 million a year for 4 years.

@@Tdzzz450 you have to look at it this way, there is reports that came out saying vezenkov is under contract this season and has a team option the year after so he cant just leave. in addition with vezenkov the raptors only had 13.3 million. even without him they have 19 million. they still have to sign walter, mogbo, shead and chomche to contracts and also they have to pick up javon freeman libertys partial guarantee, so they dont have the money to sign gary regardless. raptors dont have the 18-23 million a year for 4 years that gary wants before going into luxury tax.

In Masai we trust...I guess. Our core group of guys failed miserably while healthy and now we are throwing money at them. We were gaslit last summer with expectations that everyone had a great summer and were going to level up. Well the opposite happened, and I'm not drinking the Koolaid twice. This time I'm going into the season with rock bottom expectations so I'm not devastated with disappointment like this past season. So far, with all the new faces, I expect 35-40 wins with an outside chance that at making the play-in. We've seen a pile of players shit the bed after getting the bag. I'm interested in seeing if that will be the case again for our players who got paid. I'm elated that we finally got rid of Jalen McDaniels. If history is a teacher, watch him have the best season of his life now that we've traded him. 🤪

@@Ballin-97 Yeah. He was really good for years. But something happened and once he had to trade his players and rebuild he just SUCKED out nowhere. He didnt trade Lowry whrn he shouldve. Van Vleet. And waited one year too long and got way less than he should for Siakam and OG. Just a disaster. If he bottoms out when he had to, maybe you have Scottie Barnes and Wemby. Now you have. 2 bench players starting as 2 of the "big 3" and then veterans that would help you get... the 8 seed and lose the 1st r AT BEST

1st Scottie. No Quickley. When is Barnes contract up? RJ is locked in through the 2026-27 at $29.6 M. This is good. RJ will need a raise then. Quickley is way better than FVV. No comparison. He's faster and younger gives 100% effort 100% of the time.

But he would be a great shooter. And would see if his shot creation with his low usage is real or not, because hes kind of good at that. But skill wise, there is nowhere to go.
