A rare first edition of Action Comics #1, the first appearance of Superman, has gone up for auction. The collectible was found in a house wall. The collectible marked the first appearance of Superman, and was originally published in 1938. It is thought that there are less than one hundred copies of the issue in existence, and the find is expected to fetch $150,000 at auction. Report by Laurie Blake.

Imagine building a time. Machine and buying 100 copy of action comic number 1 then hide it in a place secured then go back to your original time line then boom

...Every other kid has done the same and Action 1 is so common people line their cat litter trays with it. Mind you, for some reason they don't line their cat trays with Hulk 181s and some folks think that that is all that that particular comic is good for. (4 'Thats' in 6 words. Got to be some kind of record?)

I can't help but think of the greed with the family. They got in a fight over the book, probably trying to pull it out of one of the owner's hands which caused the rare book to rip costing the value to go down over $75,000 dollars.

If it's cryptonite for the collectors it would mean that collectors are trying to get as far away from it as possible.

We found one in our Maine home. The strange thing is my Dad had no idea who did it because he hired the man to build the house in 1939. It had other items as well and the person who did it put it away in a steel case safe that was deep behind the wall. It also had our local newspaper, a yearbook from Thomaston, Maine. A ring and personal photos of a family named Keizer. Also had what they called Big Little Books. We sold the comic book to a private collector who lives in Maine. He lives in Bangor. Whoever packed it away as a time capsule did a good job.

Its all to do with the grading of the comic. If it didnt have a tear itcwould likely be a 2 or 2.5 which is a considerable difference to a collector. No one wants a battered copy.
