This interpretation makes the final scene in the ng++ ending make a lot more sense. When I (and others) first saw it we were confused on what the ramifications of what coral release has done. Seeing the mechs come alive with coral energy leaves a lot to be explained. What exactly has 621 turned into? Are all these mechs "sentient" coral? It's hard to say what the ending entails. But that's exactly the point. We've done something and even after it happens we still don't fully understand the consequences, and likely won't ever.

the details of what coral symbiosis exactly is dont really matter, the point is that nothing will really change due to human nature. i think the last words in the true ending are "combat mode engaged". this is a good allusion to the grand scheme of human life- there will always be war and conflict, its just that now the coral is a direct part of the human conflict aswell (they already kind of were since coral spirits chose human sides already and helped those pilots fights eachother, now its just on a grander scale)

You gotta talk about the colors man. The colors! The entire game's palette is aggressively gray and red tinted. Until the very end of NG++ when we get this brilliant cerulean closing scene. It was genuinely breath taking at first. Our eyes are most keyed into wavelengths on the blue end of the spectrum. It's generally noted across cultures to be a positive color. Yes we talk about "being blue" but by and large we associate the color with clear skies, clean water and generally positive feelings. Gray and red represent this oppressive present where human life is sold for the cost of ammunition. Where feudal corporate overlords have more power than the government. Blue then represents sailing into the unknown. They seem to be saying that whatever the mysteries of the future, we can't keep doing what we've been doing. It seems pretty positive about the idea of progress overall. Yes it's scary. But look at what stagnation brings.

The cool thing about what Iguazu hears is that he only complains about it after Ayre made Contact with you, and mostly complains about it after she speaks. It seems like he can't distinctly hear her, and for sure she's not addressing him, but this does seem to confirm that it's the Coral-based augmentation that allows Contact. Which is also implied when we learn that V.III O'Keeffe, who had old Coral-based augmentations and had them removed to have newer non-Coral based ones in order to stop hearing the voices and stop being a candidate for Allmind's plan. I'm not sure I 100% agree that figures like Dolmayan or Nagai truly don't know what awaits past the Rubicon, I find that it's implied the symbiosis would essentially make humanity more like Coral, not some sort of in-between. That humanity would become more like energy, and that things like slurping your coffee sludge would become literally impossible, humanity would become something else entirely. This is more about the technicalities though, and it doesn't change the themes which are as you mentioned, progress and the fear of change, the rising tide, destroy it or embrace it, and that we ultimately don't truly know the consequences it will have.

symbiosis is a real word, with a real definition. To understand what coral symbiosis is, it is best to use its real life inspiration as an example. In reality coral lives in mutualistic symbiosis with clownfish and other species like algae, this is done by both species being beneficial to each others survival, and allows them to survive in nutrient poor environments. Compared to that, the in game coral symbiosis, would be humans, corals and machines in general (like AC´s) living in symbiosis.
@Vulgarth1
@Vulgarth1 10 ай бұрын
My chosen interpretation is that Coral literally conjoins humans to data and machines via the Coral. We know it's an energy source, a data medium, and a malleable physical substance that can integrate biologically with humans. It's essentially a step further beyond the Human+ project that entwines humans further with ACs. It's a step beyond ALLMIND's MIND-series parts which, by their flavour text, are designed to enhance human sensory perception of the AC itself. Augmented Humans, Human+ subjects, the specifics of the procedure are unknown but the result is clearly human stimuli being wired into the AC. So it can be inferred that humanity would become, in some way, dependent on Coral to live at the gain of a reduced need for resources, or for the physical self. Potentially some kind of bio-mechanical singularity event. IF that's the potential of the Collapse, I think the Fires is the best ending to the game.

@lonewolf646 10 ай бұрын
@@deus1521 it is never really mentioned that coral can change humans to be more like coral. The closest thing we have is father dolmayan, someone who has very little understanding of coral symbiosis, speculation. That he cud possibly join her on the other side, after a coral release happens. This cud be interpreted as him believing, that after coral release he would be able to join her in being coral. But the more realistic reading would be, that after crossing the rubicon (crossing the point of no return / going to the other other side) he would be able to be with her(join), without needing to consume coral to enter a temporary pseudo symbiosis.

Hopefully we do get some continuation of the story in AC: "something that's sounds like six" (kinda like Armored Core: Verdict Day has "V" in the title which is reference to AC5 and Armored Core For Answer has "For" in it which is reference to AC4). All the pervious games have had stand-alone sequels that carry forward the same mechanics and improve upon them, but since Fromsoftware have been using the DLC model for most of their games expansions for years now I think we might get some AC6 expansion that's more akin to regular Dark Souls expansions.

Made this comment on smoughtowns video because i just love this story and its characters but here ya go just to contribute to the overall conversation I love this games story for many, many reasons. But one of the main ones is the characters. Particularly Ayre and Walter. For the first two endings, it pained me to go through with either one. On the one hand, Ayre is supportive, and even if you may make decisions she disagrees with, shes unwavering in that regard and seems to genuinely care for you and your wellbeing. Even in the end, shes not angry with you. Shes upset that youve chosen not to walk with her, and shes clearly just hurt by your choice. Her actions are as much a representation of how much she cares for 621 and how much she cares for her coral siblings. Then theres Walter. Initially a cold pupetteer, he seems to only care about making money, and exploiting the current coral situation. But as the story unfolds, he starts to also show a caring side for 621, telling others to show you respect, making sure you get rest after tough missions, and sounding genuinely concerned for your wellbeing when fighting tough enemies like coral weapons. Ultimately, he comes to trust us. Thinking of us as more than just a hound, a trustworthy companion to share his story with, and ultimately paas his torch onto. In the end, having been defeated and realizing the voice was a sentient being, he remarks that we had finally found a friend and submits. Willing to completely abandon his life goal after seeing us grow close to someone in a genuine way. And it hits really hard because the more interactions we got with Walter, the more i came to really think of him as our friend as well.

I don't know if Ayre really respects our decision. She says something like "Now I know what you are, you the pure incarnation of war" and she sounds so disgusted with you. Genuinely heartbroken that you turned out to be this way. Then walter carrying his father's sins is rough. All he sees is his duty and guilt until in his last moments he is freed from those burdens through his connection with you. Honestly a pretty beautiful story.

@@AWanderingSwordsman i dont think shes disgusted. She makes mention about your possibilities together, and how you and her could have walked together. She does recognize that youre dangerous, and a spark of war because thats objectively true, 621 is probably the most dangerous individual that star system has ever seen. But that dialogue along with what i previously mentioned makes me think that shes hurt more than anything. Maybe im misphrasing when i say she respects the decision. Im trying to convey that she respects you, and has clearly come to care for you deeply. To the point where if she is disgusted, its secondary to the pain she feels watching the first and only person shes ever come into contact with do something that would directly inflict harm onto her and her lil coral family.

9:30 I think Professor Nagai's Log (1) is literally speaking about a collapse of a high density mass in to a black hole, which coral would achieve in a vacuum, we see it in the third ending and this blackhole would be uncontrollable for humanity. Using Kardashev scale: in AC6 humanity reached at least Type I civilisation and is able to access all the energy of a planet, like we see a gigantic structure to harvest coral If coral represents unlimited potential, so its possible humanity would experience another jump in technology and achieve even higher type civilisation status, but the outcome is not predictable. Every scientist would naturally have fears to bring possible doom to humanity by his actions, inhibitions in making the next step. How much would humanity lose in achieving the next level and would it still be humanity or something else.

I think Coral Release in terms of function is a black hole bomb. Yeah, as I was playing AC, I just kept thinking about the parallels between the concept of coral as a potential to bring about humanity's evolution in space, and the concept of Newtypes within the Gundam universe. AC takes a notable transhumanist approach whereas Gundam's gets... weirdly eugenics-heavy at times, but both are ultimately about a) A unified future for humanity that does away with war, and 2) finding a future for humanity among the stars. I watched Unicorn a few years ago without realizing it was part of the longer UC series, and now I'm going back to watch them in order, currently on Zeta Gundam. Also, like, man this game really wants you to think about determinism. AC6 presents you with a scenario where you will always take the conservative route first. Burn the coral or prevent the burning, nothing functionally changes. Humanity stays the same. The outcome is predetermined. But the third ending seems to suggest one of integration with these "pulse wave entities". One in which we are able to possibly overcome the bounds of our deterministic universe. I think this is a little incoherent, in that the ending is more metaphor than anything. But it does bring up some kind of flavor of transcendentalism. I'm still thinking about all of this though. I only got the final ending a couple days ago. If nothing else, it's From's single best use of the whole NG+ mechanic. So even if it is ultimately incoherent, at least it's interesting.

I like how here our decisions aren't abstract opinions on morality like whether toasters are humans or not in Fallout 4, we get presented with a problem (Coral will uncontrollably spread until killing humans but is also hosting consciousnesses of the dead) and we solve it however we see fit.

I got the feeling that ALLMIND wanted control over the release, the entire coral cerebral control device thing and how it tossed away people that could compromise its plans, but you and Ayre wants the release to be pure with no one in control, I see a lot of similarities between ALLMIND and Ravens Nest of AC1 with the goal of "supporting" mercenaries and maintaining some sort of control on mankind. If coral release would have happened with ALLMIND at the reigns, their possible control over coral would give them control over all of mankind that will be touched by coral, I think? Issue with theories regarding game lore is that we have no way of confirming anything, until the creators confirms it.

@@ShadowSpike94 A large part of AC6 narrative is that many of the characters are obsessed with control and that there are to be no aberrations(anomalies, deviations) to their plans, even if they cud be inconsequential or even beneficial. As an example, It is explicitly said in game that the primary reason, for Professor Nagi fearing a collapse is, not the corral exponentially reproducing, but the uncontrolled coral mutations that come from maximized coral density. This is also Allminds central character flaw. While Allmind seemed to genuinely wish for symbiosis, we see its incessant need for control and order throughout the game. It tries to eliminate everything that it can not control or is so much as irregular to its plans. As an example, because Ayres/621´s coral symbiosis, like the orphaned coral, is not under its control and an aberration to its plan, it tries to eliminate them.

The funniest thing to me though. Is that the mercenary that you Control. They want nothing to Care about any of this. They are fighting to win back their very life. The goals and ideals of the people of the liberation front and the coral are nothing to them. Because they cannot provide a cure for what the player suffers. So even if you side with them, you're still doomed. And it's the same with every other concept of the story. 621 the army pilot that is a fourth gen mentally disturbed Augmented soldier does not care about anything. Only the desire for combat superiority. This is why they are able to tear down everything that they face because they don't care about all the issues. Or the background. They only understand the mission is what matters and the mission will be done. Even when they break their chains, they are still the same. The death or glory mindset still remains They are not a human being. They're not coral. 621 is a strange, abnormal existence, that should not by any and all rights within the concept of the world. Even Be a thing. Because we have witnessed many generation Augment soldiers within the game die to our hands once. Who have better augments and enhancement than we have? And yet what did they all do? They fall before us screaming and rage that they were beaten by a pathetic brain dead dog. Us. So it makes me question are they really better is coral really all that important. Or is this just another war that we've been sent to? And like in every single other game, given basic permission to determine the flow of battle and the conflict as we see fit.

Your assumption about the nature of the main character's contact here is correct. If you read through the logs which talk about augmented humans and the different augmentation generations, you'll come across the fact that human augmentation requires coral. Coral is stated to have the ability to conduct data, but is also organic in nature. It suggests that coral was used as a way to connect human nervous systems to cybernetic systems, for example a direct brain interface between the pilot and his AC. It also explains why Contact is possible, since Ayre simply interacts with implants which are designed to provide sensory data to the brain in the first place. Finally, consider that the protagonist's full designation is C4-621. That's '4th generation coral augmentation, subject 621'. Every other coral-based piece of technology in the game has a C inserted into the serial number, automated coral weapons are C-weapons, coral augmented humans get the C in their serial number as well.

Also, note the reference. Professor Nagai is, I believe, a reference to manga author Go Nagai, author of Getter Robo. A classic 70s anime about a giant robot powered by 'getter rays' which are a newly discovered form of energy, which threatens to change the future of the entire universe, because they aren't just an energy source, but also trigger rapid evolution in lifeforms, and offers the posibility to unlock humanity's potential to evolve into a higher form of life. As usual, From Soft does their homework.

Correction, Go Nagai only pitched the concept of three jets combining into an assortment of three different mechas, the real brain behind the series and the one who actually wrote is actually Ken Ishikawa (who sadly passed away without being able to finish his last work properly). Getter Robo initially is pretty much just another 70-80 action mecha show, but as Ishikawa's writing evolved through the years the series kept evolving too (which is fitting considering evolution is the core theme of getter). I highly recommend for those interested to check out Getter Robo manga or some of the adaptations (mainly Armageddon OVA and New Getter Robo) as well as to read Ishikawa's other works. He's the guy for brutal badass protagonists, cosmic forces and human potential being both glorious but also horrific.

I’ve been thinking hard about all 3 endings, and I think this video sort of clears it up for me as to what they all mean both separately and as a whole. AC6 is about humanity chooses to do when faced with possibility, or in other words, the unknown (which is why AC6 has the same theme as Bloodborne while simultaneously not being quite the same, I will now elaborate) Fires or Raven/Yharnam Sunrise both have you go along with what the old crippled man tells you to do. By letting yourself get killed you’ll forget the nightmare and wake up in Yharnam to a new sunrise, embracing ignorance as your new bliss and denying yourself any proper understanding of what’s beyond. By burning the Coral, you’ll reject any potential that comes with the Coral if it means preserving the existence of humanity as we understand it, essentially maintaining the status quo and not looking beyond. Liberator of Rubicon/Honoring Wishes are ultimately inconclusive in their own way, as none of them actually solve any of the core issues of the story, but they don’t turn a blind eye to it either. By opposing Gherman but also taking his place, we fail to actually do anything about the Moon Presence, the same way that killing Walter and dropping Xylem doesn’t fix the Coral propagation or the Corporation’s greed to consume it, but it is a step forward somewhat. More so in Liberation, but both actually acknowledge the core issue and could be a starting point to finding an answer to the core problem, key word being “could”. Alea iacta est/Childhood Beginning’s are both the polar opposites to the FoR/YhrSun endings. We look beyond into the insidious force behind the curtain (Moon Presence/All Mind) and solve the issue by casting ourselves into the unknown, fully accepting that there is no going back and embracing all the possibilities and consequences that come with it. We ascend into the Godhood as a infant Great One and guide humanity into a new childhood, the same way we cross the Rubicon and guide humanity in 2 Another Age (I’m sorry). Now the reason why I think AC6 and BB have *similar but not quite the same* themes is because another theme I think is kind of core to AC6, that being understanding. To start with, I think both the Fires of Raven and Alea iacta est are somewhat valid solutions that both lack something that only the Liberator of Rubicon shows glimpses of, that being a proper understanding of what both Coral and Humanity mean to each other. Fires of Raven is pretty straightforward with this, Walter, Carla and the Overseer’s clearly don’t fully understand Coral because they don’t even know it’s sentient, so the only real burden would be killing a planet and burning the solar system, as opposed to actually understanding that they extinguished an entire race of sentient beings with arguably about as much intelligence as themselves. Coral Release (the other name is too weird) actually ends up feeling more like assimilation (dare I say parasitism) than it does symbiosis. For starters, there’s the fears of the Collapse turning everyone into something besides human, which would essentially that it’s not really symbiosis because symbiosis is defined as “a mutually beneficial relationship between *different* people or groups.” The fact we seemingly wake up in a standard AC as opposed to the one we play as after the collapse, sort implies that either our original body was moved there (which is just weird I think) or our mind controls that AC the same way Ayre controls her’s in 2 or the 3 endings, which means we’re straight up not human anymore. If I am correct with this, it means that Dolmayan and V.III were rightfully scared shitless of Coral Release because it’s not actually symbiosis, it’s a one sided deal that guarantees Coral’s expansion and absorbs us into its flow (just like it almost did when we got hit with that Coral blast in the Watchpoint and made contact with Ayre, she straight up says that if we don’t wake up, our mind will be lost in the Coral flow.) Another aspect of this ending and NG++ run that stood out to me and more or less solidified me that this ending was kinda horse shit, was when we are trying to take out the Xylem and we hear both Walter and Carla discuss our disappearance and betrayal, and after it Ayre just says “Let’s just focus on the mission” (not gonna lie, after having already betrayed Walter and Carla in NG+, this shit made me hate Ayre despite how much I still love her). Basically what she said could be interpreted as us turning a blind eye to the sort of human suffering that V.III described, because yeah life sucks, no matter what choice you make you ultimately end up betraying someone you care about, but that’s part of what it means to be human. By turning a blind eye and neglecting it, we reject an unfortunate but also core aspect or human nature, and so in a way we reject humanity. This, in a way is why you could see Liberator of Rubicon as the more “morally correct ending” and again it’s the one ending that doesn’t really offer a solution, it just sort of postpones the problem. The key difference here is that by not taking a irreversible decision (burning the coral or triggering release) you effectively leave the door open to a solution that doesn’t sacrifice either humanity or the coral. We can even see this in the final fight against Walter, when after we defeat him, he lays his gun down when he finally notices Ayre and says “look at you… you found a friend”. The fact that he calls her friend, means he acknowledges her as a sentient being, and that final piece of understanding made even the man that made it his life mission to burn all coral off the face of the universe, lay his arms down and rest, passing the torch to you to deal with the Coral as you see fit (which is appropriate given how the name of the theme song during that fight is called “The man that would pass the Torch” effectively meaning that he trusts us to succeed where he and the overseers failed. With a lack of a proper solution, all that the Rubiconians, the Coral and the Raven can do is wait. They can only endure and stay together to come up with a solution, to pray for Answer (I’m very sorry) … fuck this is long

It's always interesting to me that the Coral being conscious is an important factor in how people view the morality and weight of each decision. Here are some other examples of conscious creatures that we encounter in games: The Gravemind in Halo 2 and 3 The Brethren Moons, which is the final stage of Necromorph transformation, in Dead Space 3 The Illithid in D&D/Baldur's Gate 3 The mere fact that they are conscious doesn't seem to make a difference to me. The Humans and Covenant team up and effectively genocide an entire species-the Flood. I can't say I've ever seen anyone profess moral qualms over that decision. Likewise, the Brethren Moons/Necromorphs winning at the end of Dead Space 3 doesn't strike me as a particularly good outcome, and I certainly haven't seen anyone say they were hoping that humanity would be completely assimilated. I can see somewhat of an argument for the Illithid, but I think since they can only survive through consumption of brains and can only reproduce through parasite implantation makes that a pretty hard sell. It's not clear to me that the Coral is a net positive for humanity, or that it's even possible for both species to coexist. I see what you mean about the Liberator of Rubicon ending postponing things-it gives people more time to figure out what the Coral even is and how to respond to it. That said, I think it's largely a fool's errand. Professor Nagai's Log #1 explains that Coral more rapidly reproduces the lower the density of the environment, meaning the vastness of space is the ideal condition for massive propagation (which I think the Stargazer/Alea Iacta Est ending showcases quite well). Likewise, Ayre herself in the Depth 2 mission says she feels drawn to her own kind, which fundamentally calls into question all of her motivations. That is, despite her sincerity, how much of her actions is driven by an underlying instinct outside of her control? And on that note, why doesn't it seem like Seria is disgusted or horrified by Dolmayan and his crew consuming the Coral? Is it because she believes that despite the short-term loss of Coral today, it's all worth the cost so long as Coral Release happens? Just something to think about. I've also seen enough Gundam series to immediately be like 🤨the moment this idea of "greater future of the two groups living in harmony" comes up. And funny enough, parasitism *is* a form of symbiosis. There are three types of symbiotic relationships: Mutualism - Which is what you describe, where both organisms benefit from the arrangement Commensalism - Where one organism benefits and the other is unaffected Parasitism - Where one organisms benefits at the expense of the other, often resulting in the death of the host While that's a more technical definition and that common parlance equates "symbiotic" with "mutualistic", I'm not convinced the writers weren't deliberately being vague with the term "symbiosis" here. I could be misreading here, though.

I think our main character doesn't have a body. In the cinematic trailer, we see our ac activate without us being in it. Another reason could be just that our AC was point blank next to the coral release and probably got destroyed, to which ayre and us just get flung across space. I find it weird if a person literally living a light year away would suddenly lose their body out of the blue, seems unlikely, but that's just me.

@@Jassu323 I think the thing about Coral is that it really can’t do shit. It’s basically cosmic gasoline that can be used as a drug and as such it lacks any proper agency. At least the Flood and the Necromorphs mutate and assimilate naturally by killing shit instinctively but any threat that the coral poses is more often than not the result of human hubris, mainly BECAUSE we use it as a resource. And sure you could say that the collapse that comes with it’s propagation is enough reason to act but I do gotta wonder why that started to be a concern damn near the moment they actually started to study coral, cause if it can spread at such a rapid pace, then why the fuck hasn’t the collapse happened before humanity even colonized Rubicon? My only guess is that the sheer extraction and usage of coral by both the Institute and Rubiconians kickstarted that sort expansion, which would retroactively make it our fault. Mind you a lot of this is speculative because I can’t imagine any other reason as to why the Coral would be a threat that doesn’t trace back to human meddling, mainly because that WOULD fall in line with AC as a series and I just think that’s the only reason why Coral wouldn’t have been an issue before humanity ever properly discovered it. Honestly the point is that the sympathy for Coral stems from the fact that it has no real agency, it’s only there to be fuel or a drug, otherwise it’s gotta be sacrificed even though we don’t fully understand what’s being lost by doing that. The thing about the Liberator ending is that it seems like the closest thing to a proper middle ground, it’s the only ending that allows for any proper discussion to be had on how Humanity and Coral can coexist, or if it’s even a possibility in the first place. As both fast and definitive as the other 2 endings are, it feels like they both jump the gun on the issue and don’t fully consider what’s being gained and lost by making such choices like genocide or universal trans humanism, so even a meaningless compromise “could” possibly open up to a proper possibility, but knowing AC it will be very much a fools errand. As for Ayre and Sería, I mean it’s only natural that they’d feel compelled to prioritize the expansion of their race subconsciously, as any self sustaining organism would do and I don’t think that ultimately means they are being disingenuous with their desire to co-exist with humanity. I just feel like they don’t have a proper understanding of what their idea of “coexistence” could actually mean for humanity. Shit, when taking out V.III on NG++, I got the feeling that she lowkey gave up on humanity after engaging with him, as his talk on human suffering may have made her realize that a core part of the human condition is fundamentally incompatible with what she and Raven want, and may have made her subconsciously feel like humanity loosing a little bit of itself in symbiosis would be worth it if it meant that neither had to die. If I am right on what my interpretation of “symbiosis” means, we effectively kill humanity as we understand it, or at least change it so much that our new existence is not one we’ll be able to adapt to smoothly. There’s also a bit of a recurrent theme in From Software games that forcing your way into a higher existence can be just as detrimental as maintaining a status quo to the point of stagnation. Sekiro with it’s themes of immortality (specifically the various means in which people seek eternal life there), Elden Ring with the Dragonkin as well as the removal of Destined Death for a deathless world. So I don’t know about turning everyone into an AC, assuming that is what happened and we didn’t just force the entirety of humanity to make contact with Coral. Either way it’s concerning because I’m sorry but there is no way in hell that Coral ending everywhere in the universe is beneficial for anyone other than the Coral in the long term, it’s fucking Armored Core we’re talking about this shit is bleak as hell, at least the other endings keep their bullshit fairly contained by comparison. Funnily enough, I was thinking about Gundam 00 when I wrote the whole “greater future of the two groups living in harmony” and it’s talks of understanding and shit, which are a recurrent theme in the franchise and mecha as a whole. The thing is that again, the very nature of this franchise calls for every imaginable excuse to shoot every type of bullet imaginable from a wheelchair bound death machine, and no amount of transhumanistic ascension will stop the sparks of war. The only difference is that Coral Release will probably make it everyone’s problem, and there’s no going back. Basically we’re fucked

I also feel AC6 seems to be showing us how fragile the equilibrium is of trying to contain technological potential, particular in a market driven environment. Balam, Arquebus, and co are all corporations after all. Father dolymayan’s philosophy is of restricting that potential and taking on the duty of containment, while the PCA as far as I understand it is essentially a governmental force to subdue or limit these corporations in their activities. Interestingly the higher ups of Arquebus (which ultimately reveals itself as the biggest threat to coral misuse) are described as being quite obsessed in their need to improve their ability and mech performance, in a way that obviously reflects an inner belief that technological improvement is always desirable, whatever the cost.

3:59 personally i was left with the impression that Iguazu can hear the voice of the Coral consciousness but for w/e reason he cant quite hear it proper and instead of focusing on a single voice, he may be picking up on several different whispers(including Ayre when 621 is nearby) which is why for him hearing them is disruptive, hearing multiple convos at once at all times cannot be good for your focus or mental stability.Especially when you see another augmented human of the same gen handling it pretty well.

Coral seems to be some kind of bodyless population. Like many conscious beings that exists without a body. When he says he will join her on "the other side", maybe he means turning himself into coral, becoming part of that consciousness. I think the game is trying to make a point on artificial intelligence, another potential thing we are trying to create that is basically a consciousness that exists without a body. If we ever create such thing, will we be able to control it, to restrict it, to preven its "release"? With the computational power there is now, an AI that can learn and rewritte its own code would outsmart us in a couple of minutes, becoming basically a god, it would be an intelligence so advance that could trick us in ways we can't even hope to understand. It would really be like casting a die. Will this god be a benevolent one and help humanity? Or will it consider humanity to be an annoyance and kill us all?

So the main problem with Alea Iacta's ending is that no one has any idea of what it will do right then I think the only problem was that Allmind did this without anyone's consent or knowledge until the end Coral release doesn't have to be done immediately. Almost everyone in the game had no idea that coral was sentient and that you could talk to them. There's so much people don't know about coral yet. People could discover what coral release really entails given enough time. I think Liberator of Rubicon is the best ending in my opinion because of that. Coral is safe, and we can take our time discovering the potential of coral and weight the pros and cons of choices such as coral release.

Here is a diff. ques. for your consideration - Could nature's natural course be dangerous in a long run & could human invervention affect it either way positively or negatively ? Yes & Yes. In the game it is this exact dilemma which coral represents.

@@dsbdsb6637furthermore to this point, what gives humanity the right to interfere in nature’s course?
@LilacAsteria
@LilacAsteria 10 ай бұрын
@bentwineham1986 Yes, coral could be dangerous to humans, it probably is, but I think many things in life are dangerous to humanity to if used improperly anyways. If you're talking about coral's effect on the universe as a whole as a consequence of its natural course, then well there's a dilemma of how to stop it. There's the fires of raven ending, with all the consequences which it incurs. So it's either that, or we have to find another way to avoid it. I'm going to assume interfering with nature's course is in regards to coral so I'm going to take the words of Ayre and Seria who both want to coexist with humans. However, we do know that Domayan does have to use coral to maintain contact with Seria, and it's very unlikely that all corals will be like Ayre and Seria (unless they have a really different way of thinking compared to humans) So technically we would need to know if all corals consent to human contact or not. Or humans should leave coral alone (which I guess we technically should) Well, we don't have an option to leave coral alone in the ending besides fire of raven but that's technically because coral has been wiped out by then. I would consider leaving coral alone if there was an ending which called for that, but not in the fires of raven way (and depending on how things turn out on said ending). I'd pick Liberator and Alea endings over Fires since we don't genocide an entire species for something we don't fully understand. Fires ending could be better if the future of coral turns out to be full human exploitation (though I still don't want a planet's worth of blood on my hands even so), but I'd like to be an optimist and believe Ayre and that humans and coral will coexist peacefully on another note, I guess we can say that we have a right to interfere with nature's course because it will affect us in the long run. Kinda like claiming it was self defense. That's ultimately a hard question since it's a decision between leaving something alone that will ultimately affect humans, or interfering with it because it will affect us. It looks like the choices are mutually exclusive. That's a big problem I don't think we can solve perfectly. Welp, I had lots of things to say but I lost them along the way in writing this line of text and other stuff popped up while I was writing this. follow me up with another question if I didn't answer a question properly or I trailed off or something. rip.

@@LilacAsterianah, I agree with you. I prefer liberator as an ending, but coral release conceptually is fine to me, just not if allmind is the one doing it. Coral doesn’t appear to be hostile to us; everytime a coral controlled machine, such as the ice worm or Ibis, attacks us, it does so out of an attempt to protect itself. The ice worm was protecting the entrance to the abandoned institute city, and ibis was protecting the coral lake, and by extension the inactive vascular plant. Since raw coral seemingly can’t communicate with us like Ayre can, It was doing the best thing it could to stop us from getting closer to it. The thing with father dolmayan is that it was his drug use that put in contact with Zeria. I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think he can be considered reliable as a source of information given how unintelligible he comes across as to his fellow RLF when we break him out of prison. In regards to nature running its course, if Coral naturally expands, and contact with it allows us to communicate, assuming we can form a clear dialogue, I don’t see how it could be truly dangerous to us, as the ‘threat’ of another fires of rubicon come entirely from the small-mindedness of humans. For all we know, the coral density increasing was it attempting to talk to us, especially since it seems as if coral’s density is what allows for Rubiconions like Ayre to manifest and contact us in the first place.

The one(s) who actually did it without anyone else's consent or knowledge was 621 and Ayre. Allmind was defeated before the ending triggered, and then 621 and Ayre made the decision to move ahead with the plan. Allmind certainly intended to do it, but it's not the one who actually pushed the button.

This game is just crazy and my friend wondered why I looked dead serious whenever I play this. It doesn't even have human cutscenes, he said... that's the point, that's why I'm so serious, I want to absorb all of the story and I have to work for it because it's so good and rewarding even though it's "faceless". He and I played Sekiro, we played Elden Ring too even though he was the one to be able to finish it, not me. I feel like he missed this one so bad, this story is one of the best I've ever experienced... reminds me of Eva, Metro and Ace Combat if all had a perfect child together.

Then you show up at the end with All Mind and Walter calls you "the biggest threat" while you are taking back the Xylem. Really cements how sinister that story path is, especially with how All Mind just casually tells you that Walter & Carla have been "handled" off screen. Honestly, I love all the endings but the true ending made me feel kind of awful. It was likely intentional which is why its so powerful & interesting. I also found it disturbing all the people you end up murdering while furthering that goal to Coral Release.

The third ending isnt necessarily the true ending, so to say, itd be hard to make a sequel moving forward from that point in the story. The endings are subjectively individual in my opinion, you can reject transhumanist ideology by burning the coral, or you can accept it via coral release. The true ending is up to the individual player. Unless theres a sequel in which case the liberator ending will likely be the cononical "true" ending, it feels kinda shoehorned in to keep the door open for future installments.
