@@RayChenViolinist Q: Why did you name the app as “Tonic” ? As in tonic ( being the root of 1st chord of a key 🔑) or music 🎶 being a “tonic” to our souls ?

I play violin as a hobby for several years. I highly recommend everyone to record your playing, left violin aside for a few days and then hear the recording... If you don't like the sound, then stop any pieces and make sure that your scales and broken thirds in 1st and 3rd position are perfecltly in tune. Always check it with "obvious" intervals (e.g. octaves). Spend this way at least a year and you will see a difference. Make sure that your hands are relaxed, check critically your movements... once fundamentals are established, then proceed with pieces. But spend as many time as it will take to establish good fundamentals. Everything will be easier then. Any piece is a music, meaning that you must not always play it good technically but also must add good dynamics and musicality to it. No way to do that without good fundamentals. Unfortunately, aproaching Vivaldi or Paganini somehow results in playing somehow...

What does your last sentence mean?
@danielsmith5990
@danielsmith5990 Жыл бұрын
@M SC the point is simply that playing caressly leads to no results. This obvious idea is easy to forget in a daily routine.

Nah half of the people he‘s reviewing are prodigies… I learned to do vibrato after 2 years (it was bad) and prople are kinda doing it a few months into playing
@chrisma3256
@chrisma3256 Жыл бұрын
I had started at 8yo and my teacher still wouldn't show me after 3 years. When lessons got more expensive I dropped it and only started learning vibrato with my new teacher upon picking it up again as my kid started playing last summer. I feel like this depends on your teacher. Teaching methods have changed a lot, too. As a kid it was like watch and play. Can't remember that many concrete instructions.
