Trying Something a little different on this one as I'm not totally sold on the box art.
In this video, I do a detailed step by step build of the Egress Black from start to finish. Will I fall in love with this rerelease Egress or will it leave me cold and penniless?

Yep I did that on my XLS. Also I’ve seen people paint around the carbon chassis on the under tray as well.

That soundtrack to the chassis build was so 80s my blazer spontaneously turned pastel pink and its sleeves rolled themselves up to my elbows of their own accord.

I massively cocked-up when applying the mirror decals on the tail, had them on upside down. Just here to tell you that if you're extremely careful and have a steady hand, you can (just about) remove them and reapply.

I mean, the Egress wasn't exactly cheap when it first came out. It was around $300-some dollars (I can't find an exact price because when I look up "Egress original release price USD" Google keeps giving me store links for the rerelease), which adjusting for inflation would have put it above $800 of today's dollars, so _technically_ the rerelease is cheaper than the original. Problem is, buying power hasn't kept up with inflation, so while the rerelease's price is lower than the original, it makes a bigger dent in the pocketbook.

Ended up not building mine as they rereleased the original. Kept my black one as NIB to appreciate the kit.

If the Avante is the best Tamiya build buggy, then the Egress comes in really close. Look at that carbon chassis! 😍

The Avante is a little more fun to build but the Egress is a nice easy build experience that’s for sure and it’s not a frustrating build in anyway. If you get the chance to build one I would recommend it. 👍🏻

Looks nice in the gun metal :) I’m going with a twist on mine as well with the paint job when it finally arrives, it’s been on a journey ;) looking forward to the build as I’ve never built it had an egress before as usually there not on my radar, personally and so far I think it looks as good as a normal egress . Nice work :)

Hi Gavin! Yeah I’m a box art guy BUT… I think you really knocked it outta the park with the gun metal! Really looks nice! Me personally I’m going to pass on this one as I’m waiting for the hotshot 2 in its original form. Not a blockhead guy and I’m hoping they do the OG version of it as well like they did with the wild one. Do you think we will get a OG version of the HS 2? Thanks!

I think the original Egress looks better. Such a shame, they could have done so much better with it. Black with gold stickers and pink wheels, oh and a unique motor.

Hello, do you still scratch the body on inside before you paint. I saw you doing this in another video. Didn't understand what you were using to scratch though. Also do you use water to place stickers ? I've seen others do this. Would you do a few layers of gun metal then white and finish with gun metal ? Cheers

Yes I use a kitchen green scourer to key the body but GO EASY! If you do it too hard you can see it when painted. It's just a light key. I sometimes use water to fit decals yes. If you are painting a body with gun metal then no, I would just put a good 5-7 layers down and that will do.

Gav, in the past have you tried a couple coats of pearl clear before laying on the main colour? I did a Hotshot in gunmetal with the pearl underneath....it really pops in the sun! 👍

These old Tamiya cars are funny time capsules , from a time where weight saving > anything else NiCd/NiMh and brushed motors didnt give off stupid levels of power we have today -Every gram counted , even if it meant sacificing stability and impact resistence -Goes for gearboxes too and the thin driveshaft : Who needs strong parts if the motor never really hammers them anyway : Less weight again -Gear diff ? NAH too much mass, balldiffs can slip but wont with brushed motors and NiMh -Wheels : Mostly hollow -Tires : SUPER STUDDY, back in ye olden days people raced offroad...... not on packed , basically road, clay

Interesting that they added the window masks for this version; the standard one just uses decals for the windows, so I had to make my own masks. It would look too much like the VQS in black; especially in my case as I dyed my VQS wheels rit "frost grey", which looks exactly like those wheels.

Best vintage RC for box presentation, lovely build experience, part quality, vintage looks, vintage racing relevance, driving ability and reliability would be the Kyosho Turbo Optima.

I think the Egress price isn’t as bad outside of the UK but the UK price is hard to justify.

Yes the price did feel expensive for what you got and I’m sure it had an impact on price. I’ve seen some deals around that make it a bit more reasonable

Another thumbs up on the color choice. There's too much of a good thing. Every R/C car can look nice in black. But after awhile all you have is black cars. Gotta break it up with some other parts of the palette. Like those rally cars that are grounds for a nervous breakdown.😜

I know it’s a right pain. I remove as many as I can but it’s not long before more pop up. The scammers are bloody obvious to be blunt so most people just report them now thankfully as it helps.
