Thank- you! There might be people I just don't need to interact with. Paying more attention to what I am feeling around others and honoring that is something I am working on. I do not have to be open with people who have proven themselves to be unsafe. I still have a reflex to feel I have to be " nice" to everyone.

Over the years I've became a better listener and I sense that those who like talking to me feel heard and nurtured. As you put it, I put aside my own agenda and make the other person the priority. What I am wondering is: when will I be heard; when will my concerns be a priority?

I feel that proper listening is so rare that when you make yourself "the listener" people will act around you as they would a buffet after being lost in the woods w/o food for a week. I try my hardest(mostly) to listen but I certainly get the sense that other people don't. I can tell because nobody ever asks a follow up question to what I just said. Every time somebody talks to me I can immediately think of multiple questions to ask. People seem to love it. I think we have to get used to not being heard.

@@bernibeckmann9753 I try not to feel sad about it, but not being important enough for anyone to listen can send me in a downward spiral sometimes. Sometimes I can deal with it and sometimes I tell myself it's better to be alone than to subject myself to feeling invisible.

@@susie5254 It seems like life on earth means suffering to one degree or another and the end reward is death. Cheers.

@@susie5254 I feel the same. I know it’s a paid professional, but I recommend at least having a therapist to listen. It is essential to our health to be listened to and validated. Another way is to find a support group or hobby group for the things you like to talk about or need help with because the people there will share your interests or hardships and they are all there because they want to connect. They are more likely to be listeners. Those are the ways that I have felt most heard. …and prayer of course.
