Nice little plants! Your pronunciation of williamsii is correct, double ii is e i plant all my Chihuahua desert plants in a dolomite, lime stone mix , with a small amount of organic matter mixed in, dolomite & lime stone are plentiful here in the Ozarks. Enjoy those little guys , very nice!

Thanks for the video! I'm just coming up on the 6 year mark for mine and I've begun to think I should consider the next level up where it's currently in the same pot you've transferred yours too in this video. There were some useful tips there. Although Entheogens are part of my spirituality I grow mine as an homage for fun as well. Here in Canada we are also permitted to keep them as a house plants. Thanks for your help!

that ban on Lophophora williamsii is all about conservatives trying to suppress hippies and all other minorities for that matter. that's all its about. the alleged abuse never really existed. its all about social control, discrimination, intolerance and all that. please pass the word. have a lovely day.

I think Lophophora 'var. Caespitosa don´t contain the illegal compounds so you should check that out! They´re really cute and they get alot of heads.

eh, don't worry about it. get yourself some. the police don't know what the hell they're looking at. I know from experience. a serious cactus collection is bewildering to law enforcement. and they have more important things to do anyways. you'd be amazed at how often Lophophoras show up at cacti/succulent shows. the law is only as effective in how well its enforced as many corporate polluters are aware (much to our demise). the police should be more concerned about corporate polluters than your cactus collection. btw: you make some nice youtube videos too.

I recently moved back to Arizona, and am hoping to go out on a hike, to see if i can get some “In the wild” photos, fingers crossed that a few areas that used to have many . . . Haven’t been discovered and desecrated.

Hi there :-D Yes I use a Brand of John innes by Clover its a very good quality brand of John innes and I am really happy with it, I have tried a few different brands of John innes over the years and not been that happy but Clover is very good quality, I also like Arthur Bowers but it can be hard to find now, but if you can get Clover its very good here is alink to their website and the John innes that I like to use :-D www.cloverpeat.co.uk/retail-compost/view/50/john-innes-no-3 XXXXXX

HI Lyn & Hans!! hope you are good! we have just bought a lovely peyote pillow from your store just as a little thankyou for giving us such good advice!!! you guys are the best!! we planted five LW seeds 12 days ago and 2 have sprouted!!! we have sowed another 15 today (using microwaved soil/sand/grit this time as you have shown on your previous videos) just gonna see how it goes, but we are made up with our little sproutages!! is it ok to use the surplus of the microwaved soil to repot our 3cm pups or should we just use a normal mix (sorry we are still total cactus noobs and probably overthinking everything we just dont want to damage them) thankyou from G+L

Love my Lophophora. I've several in clay pots on my window sill. I think the green pots look really nice. Do you think the Lophophora need the soil replaced each year or can you skip a year? One other thing that's sad about this plant is that it's not left alone in its natural habitat. Heart breaking that we don't give nature the respect it deserves.

I am actually based in Ireland myself and I grow cacti here too (indoors mostly). Fair play to you letting some of the taller ones in the background out for the bit of sun we sometimes get, although I wager Peruvian cacti species are far more tolerant to our cooler climate more so than Lophophora would be. Cacti horticulture is very interesting considering there are many species of them critically endangered.

It is a joy to watch your videos on appreciation for these wonderful plants, I have actually learned a great deal already about how to repot cacti from your descriptions and how to look out for rot on roots and so on. I am thinking of growing Lophophora cacti myself after watching this as it is interesting that they do not produce spines and only a fur instead. luckily they are legal to grow here in Ireland.

I have seedlings about 2 months old in a pot with a plastic bag over them. About 11 cactus babies , I don't know how I'm going to transfer them to their own solo pots🙃 Should I wait until they are older?💛💛💛💛💛💛

Hi Daniel :-D thats wonderful you have Loph cactus babies at 2 months old, yes its best to wait until they are much older until transplanting them, you can leave them until they are almost touching each other in size, I would leave them until they are about 2-3 cms wide in size before transplanting them, probably in another year or two, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday XXXXX

I don't plan on eating my lophophora williamsii, but is it really true that those in cultivation have fewer alkaloids than in the wild? Then, can people simulate arid wild conditions by much less watering, so it produces more alkaloids even though it'll grow much slower?

It probably can be done but pretty hard to do and would take a lot of patience (years and years). You can actually take part in a shamanic ceremony in the U.S. I think that's the best way: respectful, supervised, safe, and with somebody that knows what they are doing.

Hi :-D I am not sure about how to produce more alkaloids but I have heard that the ones in cultivation contain far fewer alkaloids than in the wild

No. alkaloid content is due to the age of the plant; that's what the elders in the Native American Church say. please do no stress your plant thinking it will increase the alkaloid content. respect the elders.

Dumb laws, same with the prohibition of other plants such as C. indica/sativa, Salvia divinorum, Coca species and God knows what else. After all, they are just PLANTS. Pity that some people ABUSE nature's gifts. Blanket bans, which are default positions of politicians and lawmakers the world over, spoil the fun for those who use plants (or whatever it may be, for that matter) responsibly. We are all treated like children who need guidance and nannying.

Thanks for the video, wonderful knowledge. I would be cautious in your speech however (the 2:00 minute mark). This plant does NOT have a history of abuse, that is not why it's illegal. Mescaline was part of the 1970 war on drugs movement, and was fortunately given some leeway within the native american church in 1978 allowing it's use during ceremony. I know you're not intending to spread misinformation, and fortunately these sort of things are becoming less taboo, thanks again!

you are correct that the alkaloids are low for cultivated plants. However its not due to how well cared for they are. Its due to the fact that they are young. paiute develops alkaloids with age. that's why the old timers in the Native American Church say that the grandfather paiute plants have the most medicine. Grandfather paiute is more than 60 years old. That's how long you would need to grow a paiute plant to have significant medicinal value. At least thats what the elders say. and yes, that's why its ridiculous to ban the cultivation of paiute. conservatives are just being stupid. but then, when aren't they stupid? ha ha. well, so please don't stress your plants thinking that the stress will cause the plants to increase their alkaloid content. there really isnt' any research saying either way. but the elders have spoken. and I'll leave it at that. respect the elders.

Your comments are terrible about "the alkaloid being abused" highly irresponsible and inflammatory words. Mescaline is a medicine and you have done nothing but stigmatise it even further. Your comments are extra irresponsible telling people that cultivars are weak and essentially encouraging people to take wild endangered plants because they are stronger.
