Even though they were wearing white robes, this was not the Kami Band. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director and choreographer. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. When Su-metal pulls out the tanto (short blade) she says: "Otome wa… nametara ikan zeyo." ("Maidens… should not be underestimated.") It's also a line said by a gangster's daughter in the film 'Kiryu-in Hanako no Shogai' (1982), by actress Masako Natsume. It was released in the USA as 'Onimasa'.

I don't think anyone else has the mentioned the music change when dancer in a kimono appears. It is metal version of the very traditional folk song "Sakura sakura". This might be the best of the earliest songs. When performed live, instead of flashing a knife, Su-metal does a really high kick.

Yeah, the 'R' in Japanese (and 'L' in Chinese & Korean) is often difficult to pronounce for Westerners. It's more or less somewhere in between the 'L' & 'R' (with a little bit of 'D') of most Western languages (that's also why there's a stereotype of Asian people mixing up R's & L's in English). Fortunately for you, the German 'R' is much closer to the Japanese 'R'. And the instrument you were asking about is the Shamisen, which is more or less the Japanese equivalent of the banjo. It sounds very similar to the Koto (the big harp like instrument whose sound is most commonly associated with Japanese music) but it's 'twangier' - kind of like the difference between a banjo and an acoustic guitar. If the idea of fusing traditional Japanese instruments with rock music interests you, you should check out Wagakki Band (和楽器バンド). I recommend starting with either Senbonzakura (千本桜) or Ikusa (戦). They're both great introductions to the concept before going on all the tangents of the sound.

This song has a lot of traditional Japanese elements from their feudal period. The instruments the band was pretending to play were all traditional Japanese musical instruments from hundreds of years ago, the castle where they filmed was from that period as well, the kimonos they were wearing and even the tanto dagger Su pulled from her microphone. Back then, maidens would often carry a tanto dagger for their protection. Also the breakdown (I don't think that was supposed to be pigs squealing, though I'd never thought about that before) the melody was the famous Japanese "sakura" or cherry blossom melody, to which they had a professional dancer performing a traditional dance with the fox mask over her face. I agree with you, Su’s vocals on this song are amazing. They show off just what she can do when she’s in full voice. You can hear that she’s working at the top of her range and power unlike some other songs where she doesn’t have to work so hard. I think you will like Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischief of the God's intro because once again you will see something different from Babymetal. in October 2013 I heard this song in an airport coming back home from vacation and have been hooked ever since. again this is a fan favorite. they have opened up shows with this song. in the middle of live versions is when the crowd interaction makes this song so good. it all about female power in a sense. sorry but this is still when they were using fake band so no kami band here. the kami band was not part of them until December 2013 for Su's 16th birthday show. the best version of this song was from Tokyo dome 2016 and it was on dailymotion but they have had issues that a lot of Babymetal videos were taken down. I lost half of my liked videos on dailymotion. all the good versions of songs.

One thing you might find interesting, you always mention Su-Metal's voice as being so beautiful and perfect. The funny thing about that is the ENTIRE band was built AROUND her and her voice. The person who created Babymetal heard her sing and decided her voice was too powerful and clean for JPop. Since he was a huge metal fan he felt her voice would work well in metal, so he created the Babymetal band using her voice as the focal-point.
