Still, one of my favorite performances is one of his last before he left for military service-Letter where it is just him and a guitarist. His duality is his strength. Yep, really shy offstage around people he doesn't know. You could absolutely see it in his promotions for FACE. Someone described him as a swooning Victorian maiden when doing lives. He's also described as a kindergarten teacher because he also does arts and crafts. Jimin is very much a rule follower and keeps in mind that some younger fans watch their lives. He's said himself that he changed a lot during the pandemic, and I think that's part of what we've seen recently vs what he was like in the past. That being said, that is apparently not what he's like in his private life. As for the change in the middle of the song - he tried it in rehearsals and couldn't make it work in time, so this was a pretape. You can tell by some of the costuming that is was supposed to be a change onstage - his first outfit is way baggier than anything he usually wears and that's so he could underdress the second costume. It looks to me like the red is a one piece except the jacket. Could they have rigged the first outfit? Maybe, but with the dancing he does, it would be hard to hit the balance between being able to rip it off him and not gaping open suddenly during the first part. He definitely wouldn't have time for the jacket though.

Lory, you and I had the same reaction when I first saw this performance 😂 The thing is, this was one of their online concerts during pandemic viewed by millions of ARMY around the world. We didn't have a moment to pick our jaws dropped on the floor 😂 I wanted to pause and rewind so badly but I can't coz it was shown live. 😅

I think it's really interesting how he played a lot with themes that are associated with femininity in this performance like the eye catching makeup and the clothes he took from a female mannequin, but also had masculine tones in the dance. In one performance he had the two words in latin written on his palms but one was in female and the other in masculine form, which is not how it would be written grammatically correctly and in one concept photo from this era he hat the bigender symbol. So he is showing both his masculine and feminine side here, which comes back to the theme of the song, wich is about him portraying different sides (like through a filter), people seeing him through different lenses and the prejudices that come with this. It could also be about the Anima, which would be fitting since this song is his solo from their Map of the Soul: 7 album. I hope you got to read the lyrics because they are really interesting and difficult to understand without context.

The things we do for science, am I right? 😉🤣 "Filter" is such a cool concept both in lyrics and performance, and Jimin's soft, ethereal voice is perfect for it. Artists like Jimin - and his good buddy Taemin - just have this thing about them that's simultaneously alluring in a siren-y way but still masculine and playful. It's why there are compilations on KZfaq of men getting Jimin'ed with "The Jimin Effect," lol. I think this is the performance that really won my husband over for Jimin because he was a big, big Michael Jackson fan and you can really see the influence MJ had on this dance (lol, beyond the crotch grab, even 🤭). He's basically saying - I can be whatever you want. Pick your filter (like a camera filter) - I can be your Genie, your Aladdin, whatever you want me to be. It really leans into that chameleon nature that Jimin has, the ability to be super cute one minute and then super hot the next. It was a great song choice for his solo. There's a Day 2 of this performance from Map of the Soul ON:E, btw - in a different (and no less troublesome) purple suit where he had "Illecebra Arcanus" written on his hands, which is Latin for something like "Mysterious Seduction" - very fitting, no? The messy hair and smoky eye from that performance are also legendary.

LMAO, yes, "coffee breaks" and "research" are pretty much mandatory when watching Jimin perform on stage. What's funny is that he really is shy. He gets extremely embarrassed when all of the boys watch a stage performance like this. I'm not sure if it would be better for this week or JK's week, but I hope you watch the two of them behind the scenes for a muster performance of a song called Coming of Age Ceremony. They covered it right after JK's 19th birthday, so the song is more for JK than Jimin. It's a dance cover but the song is typically covered by girl groups and the dance is pretty sensual. The song is originally from a female singer to an older man, letting him know that she's of legal age so he doesn't have to keep his distance any more. The Bangtan Bomb doesn't have subtitles on it, so I'll put a link to one that does have them in a reply to this post. You probably noticed, but this version of the performance has been cropped and cut together to avoid Cpyright issues. I highly recommend finding the proper version (not on youtube) just to watch for yourself. This version cuts off his body most of the time, cuts off his dancing, and obvs there are cameramen in the way. To avoid possible confusion, he performed it twice - once in a red suit and once in a purple suit and it was from the Map of the Soul ON:E concerts in 2020 (online concerts due to the pandemic).

Shruthi said on 3/23/20 The use of minor chords to give it a dark undertone and some of the lyrics in Filter make me feel like it's more a "reminder to fans that we only see the version of him we want to see" type of song than a love song. The lyric video was a bit off but lines like "you'll only be wanting me because you're the one who made me", the chorus and "we can be the new me" instead of "I can be the new me" sound a lot like he's reminding fans how we pick and choose the parts of him that fit the image of him that we've created in our heads. Basically filtering out everything that doesn't fit our fantasy to pick a version of him that's attractive to us. If that is actually how he meant it it's really amusing how we're all doing with the song the exact same thing he's calling out. Choosing only to see the "flirty and sexy" side of the song because it fits our idea of him. Jimin reads people incredibly well and I'm pretty sure he knew fans wouldn't dig into the song for hidden meanings like they would with, say, rap line, for example, because we already have a filtered version of him in our heads and think we know him and what he would sing about. But I do honestly love how you don't have to read it like that and can just enjoy the song for its fun upbeat sound too. Because MOTS: 7 incorporates psychological themes and concepts I think Filter (within the theme) represents how Jimin has no control or has unwillingly given others permission to choose which parts (filters or personas) they like about him and ignore/disregard the ones they don’t like or deem “broken/damaged/or not up to standard” thus “choose your filter”. Choose is a command, it’s not even a question, he’s stating that people will choose their opinions on him regardless of how hard he tries to impress everyone with different personalities(filters)-that’s my interpretation based on the concept of mots which is interconnected with mentality-personalities, eg., ego or shadow or persona for example! I think this interpretation also fits how Jimin is in real life. He's notorious for being one of the most closed off members when it comes to his real self and his personal life. We know very little of Park Jimin compared to what we know of his persona JIMIN. Which is healthy when one is as famous as any of the BTS members are. Jimin rarely talks about himself or his friends or his family, even with how open he is about his feelings sometimes. I see Filter as him telling people to choose which "persona" (filter) of his they like and take it to heart, since people won't love his real self. The meaning we got from the performance was another one. At the beginning of his career he wanted to look manly and worked hard to act like a macho and stressed himself for being always at the top and appreciated. Then he learned how to embrace his true self and mix the palette (as he said in the lyrics), he wants to be true to himself and be whoever he wants without limits, so having both "feminine" and "masculine" features (as shown in the temporary tattoos he had on his hands pre-D2). So he has so many filters and sides of him to show and with whom attract people, no matter who you are or your tastes/sexuality, he can fit it all. So Jimin has pretty much been doing this since the beginning, playing the role of whatever army seems to prefer for him, but in actuality, hardly anyone knows the real Jimin! So much more then what many army believe him to be. Plus since Jimin never talks much about all his amazing past achievements, abilities, and accomplishments, even before ever joining BTS, many army are still unaware of so much.

Originally he was supposed to do it for real but they couldn't get it to work properly in practice so they did it like that to be sure. And yeah, I totally get the need for further investigation....
