The Cyphers really show why as a young teen before BTS RM was respected and known for his amazing rapping. His flow switches and unrelenting pushing agressiveness is only matched by how feral Suga gets. Jhope was still learning rap in these eras and wasnt called out by the underground rap community like the other two. They had very specific beef to address in these cyphers and they did. I adore Suga and his unhinged evil laugh at the end of 2. Casius is Casius Clay ie the original name of Mohamed Ali like so much of RM a clever way to reference something.

RM flexing by having a whole verse in English. As good as any American rapper. Savage. I always love 2. It’s balanced. J-Hope is a first class hype man and then RM has the best full cypher while Suga has the best singular moment with his fast flow on the rise. Chefs kiss.

BTS rap line is just built different…these 2 cyphers were released within their first year…..ppl don’t joke around when they say that RM and Suga were really well respected real underground rappers, RM was still in high school, but he was so good that many of his sunbaes were scared to face him in rap battles, suga was producing for members of his rap crew, J-Hope became one of the best rappers in the game in an incredibly short amount of time and continued to evolve his own rap style, both in terms of flow and how he writes. Rapline writes ALL of their own raps. Just an explanation for you abt Suga’s line “just go back to Hawaii, go home”. Idk if you remember a particular interview with other underground rappers where RM and Suga were told they were girls for wearing make up on stage as Bangtan, not only did BangPD (Bighits’s CEO at the time) personally tried to have a conversation with that rapper and defend RM and Suga (he would not come down from the building) but yeah, that line was also abt him.

You can not change my mind.His lyricism reads, sounds and works like poetry: a few words have multiple meanings and derivate in multiple chains of thought. Every time you listen to them, you discover new details, new ideas, new insights. Even when he's being straightforward, there's still some some philosophy or revelation or a big question or an aesthetic behind them. A poem is full of passion, but every word is chosen carefully, with intention. They're puzzle pieces, every piece has a place to create the full picture. It's a form of ART. WORDS WITH INTENTION. *Suga's* lyricism is like "an arrow straight to the heart": you immediately understand the emotion he's trying to convey, you don't need to even know what he's saying to know "what you're supposed to FEEL". What he says is always interesting too, and it has layers too, but, from the first listen.... You usually feel that same way after listening to his song 1000 times. Even when the song is sociopolitical or when it displays an idea, your first impression is a STAB OF EMOTION forever tattooed in your memory. *J HOPE's* lyricism is like a playground, an amusement park. since these cyphers are "contests," like in a boxing ring, i take RM's lyric about "Cassius's lance," to be a reference to the US boxer of fame, Cassius Clay, who later became Mohammed Ali. who was known for his "rap" smack before fights. Kim Namjoon is worldly and ethereal & this rap line is....kisses!

Imagine they did these when they were rookies and those old rappers took notice and call them sell-outs and girls for wearing make-up. THIS was what they saw --- the immense potential and overflowing talent. They attempted to break their spirits. They were scared of these youngsters. 😅

The genius of RM's verses, the word play, etc can't be given it's due in lyric videos unfortunately, but doolset breaks it all down and it's so much more fire than it appears superficially. The 1st Cypher was from their 2nd EP ORUL82? and was them basically addressing some of the hate they were getting just from being idol rappers and debuting with BangPD who wasn't known to be involved in hiphop before that, it also came out a month before they were essentially ambushed at the hiphop invitational by B-Free et al (who came in with a chip on their shoulder thinking that BTS had ripped off Kayne West's BSH in their comeback trailer even though they clearly cited it in the video and only did a cover since the broadcasters last minute told them they couldn't use the original song)...the 2nd Cypher was released on their 3rd EP Skool Luv Affair 4 months after that plus the start of the plagiarism accusations (that followed them for years), etc so the edge/anger, especially from RM & Suga in Cypher 2 is in direct response to those underground rappers and some former friends, etc.

The bit at the beginning where it says 'dick' is meant to be triptych, as there's three of yhem on the track and the 'Cassius' lance' reference is about the Spear of Cassius which is meant to represents despair and hope. The best bit for me is the 'Go to Hawaii, go home bit as it's aimed towards B-Free, the twat intne radio interview who kept trying to put them down on air, saying that yheyre girls for wearing make up. Hi Lory! Me alegra ver en estos últimos vídeos que estas mejorando. Debo decir que la "rap line" es ... Creo que no existe una palabra para describirlos asi que usaré una comparación. Los 7 miembros de BTS son como un cuerpo humano. Cada uno de ellos cumple una funcion diferente y juntos mueven ese cuerpo. Desde esta comparación diré que RM es el cerebro, con él empezó todo, es un poeta, juega con las palabras tanto en inglés como en coreano y como dijo su jefe en una ocasión, es consciente de los sacrificios que hay que hacer para conseguir algo aún siendo tan joven cuando empezó. RM no sabía bailar "beautifully" pero a diferencia de otros raperos prejuiciosos supo ver que ser un grupo debutando como grupo de idol era el medio para alcanzar su meta. SUGA es, las tripas, los intestinos, en el sentido de que siente en lo mas profundo las cosas, digiere las situaciones desagradables tranquilamente sin alterarse pero luego echa por la boca eso que ha digerido. Parece desagradable la comparación pero SUGA no es agradable, ni pretende serlo, con aquellos que los atacaron en el pasado, porque aquellos que le ataquen a él o a sus hermanos, él lo sentirá como un golpe directo en sus tripas y vomitara sus verdades sin contemplaciones, directo a la yugular. De ahí su risa final del "Cypher 2" que encaja con un refrán español que dice: "quien ríe el último ríe mejor", él ya se ha desahogado y se quedó a gusto. Sin embargo, todos ellos ya han alcanzado tal nivel de tranquilidad que ya no se van a molestar en responder a sus atacantes. Su última advertencia fue "Mic Drop". Ellos mismos lo dicen en el estribillo por eso creo que "Mic Drop" es "Cypher 5 y final". J-HOPE es las piernas y el corazón del grupo. Su manera de hacer las cosas requiere movimiento, rapea al mismo ritmo que él se mueve al bailar y es el corazón, el lugar donde guardamos nuestros sentimientos, y él es su corazón porque les da a todos lo que necesitan, cariño, energía, alegría, apoyo etcétera. Los tres juntos fueron al principio la columna vertebral que sostuvo al equipo pero todos juntos son un cuerpo. Estas comparaciones sirven para hacer entender que nadie es mejor que nadie pues ¿acaso piensas que te sobra una mano? ¿te cortarías un pedazo o un miembro de tu cuerpo porque lo consideras de menor valor que otro? La idea es absurda, igual que absurda es la idea de que alguno de los 7 sea inferior o superior a otro. Todos son necesarios para mantener en funcionamiento ese "cuerpo". It means that something is 3 way. =0] Well there is a joke within army that it was decided that V would be part of the rap line but V asked Hobi to switch with him and we got a rough gem that now is a polished jewel which shines brightly on us. =0) I also think V sucked in the beginning. Cypher 1: as it came out during their debut days, their skills in rapping still extremely raw and unrefined compared to today. It feels more like what cyphers were supposed to be. raw, honest, but it was made to show their skills and to make the album feel more "hip hop" Cypher 2&3: as they were both released during the period of time they were struggling as a group, you can feel their "rage" in them. both cyphers feel more like diss tracks aimed at specific targets (haters, prejudice, media, bad critics, etc). I think these tracks fuelled ARMY's even more and some could even relate through the lyrics. not to mention, complicated wordplay's that you can dissect for DAYS Cypher 4: created post-rage period. they have become more mature at this point, and they are showing people that they will no longer deal all the hate against them with rage. while at the same time, they are flexing about where they are today (bigger than the haters) so they will focus more on loving themselves and taking it a stride than waste energy on haters.

Rapline were already k*lling as rookies. They are cute, loving, good people but they are merciless when they diss. The underground rappers humilitated them in itw by using their seniority to prevent them from responding (mandatory respect) but none of these rappers (or anyone else) never had the guts to go after BTS rapline with actual rap... Such losers... BTS Rapline is toptier!
