You can't compare the price of the 2.0 base Macan to the entry level Macan BEV because at present it's only the Macan 4 and Turbo that is launched. The 'lesser' models are still to be announced and the pricing (although will naturally be dearer than the older ICE models) will be less than what we currently know for Macan BEV. You need to discuss pricing again when these other models become available.

I wanted to drop a comment on here about the Taycan range conversation as a long term owner. I have a 4s Performance battery plus and I’ve had it since December 2021. I’m approaching nearly 21000 miles and honestly it’s been very, very good. I’ve had only one minor glitch with infotainment, which was resolved with an update. My average range on the vehicle, using the trip, which hasn’t been reset since i’ve had the vehicle is 305 miles. I’m not sure where the other much lower range figures are coming from, unless these are people with turbo S models and ringing its neck every time they get in it. For reference i’m a UK owner and purchased the vehicle new

As I saw the news on this macan EV and the stop of ICE macan's in Europe, I went to the dealer and ordered one of the last Macan T... Really happy with that decision!! I am getting it in April. Was still able to spec it though.

Seems like they’ve had a rough time on planning/organization, but my friends and I were less than enthused about how the Aspen ice race tickets were announced. Lots of plans in place for many, only to have a last minute “oops, hope you’re willing to spend $3k+ just to attend!” Glad to hear you had fun with Mini, guess we’ll see how it goes out here in a few weeks.

Really odd not to mention the monthly running costs of the ev? Especially when they're a daily. In my RS4 I was doing £6-700 a month in petrol. My EV daily which is quicker in all the stats isn't as soulful no- but it's also £100 a month in electric. That means I can afford to buy a more expensive EV than a petrol. On top there's the servicing, tax etc etc. It's also better in daily drive traffic- the drivetrain to get 450bhp from a petrol- DCT and the like is horrible in traffic.

Talking about macan price... the dealers won't sell you a low spec car anymore. They now have target incentives (at salesman level and dealer level) on how much extras they sell. For example in Switzerland they won't well you a macan with less than 10k in extras. And on the 911 it's 35k. The salesman have to average that figure. So if they sell a 911 with only 10k in extras, then they have to sell one with ~60k in extras to average the 35k figure. It's crazy but it's true. And at the end of the year they have a bonus based on that achievement. It's the same at dealer level.

What is funny about the electric Porsche Macan, is its actually 35K cheaper in The Netherlands than the old model! it starts at 88.000 euro, while the basic 4 cilinder (old) macan started at 125.000 Euro! This is mostly because of the weird tax laws here, but still makes quite the difference 😅

I don't know of any families that travel more than 200 miles a leg. Generally its 2 hours max. The key to this EV and all that are to come is they need to charge in 10-15 minutes max. In conjunction with expansion of the EV charging network. Also the base 2L Macan is a poor comparison with the base Macan 4 EV. Macan S is a better fit, and in USA is about $8k cheaper than the EV.

My MYP says 300miles but easily does 220 motorway miles. More than enough if Macan does 300 motorway miles I’m in

Let's not forget that Porsche didnt just start developing this car last week for a market that they believe is changing... This would have been in development for years. Once they're at the point of ut being ready for the road, they're not going to needlessly pull it from production. It will still sell in large numbers.

The Bentley isn't that bad if you get a nicely looked after one (same as any car) Loads of parts are shared VW, had one in the family since last June and its been faultless, even had a big trip over into France and back.. Go for the W12, check the vacuum lines are done and keep it charged up when not using it. Dealer level software is widely availible.

In the Netherlands is the electric macan way cheaper than petrol. 30 to 40k euro difference. It's because taxation on co2 emissions. These macans wil sell pretty good here and other countries who tax on emissions.

You forget to mention inflation which is the single most influential factor in the price "hike" compared to previous generations Macan. 60 grands in those days is basically equivalent to 70 grands today so the "new" price is justifiable from my PoV.

Most decent ice cars at £90k also loose easily £20k in 1st year. The tax incentives more than make up for losses

Sam - I have an interesting perspective on the EV discussion. I am a sales rep and drive quite a bit for work. I have a Subaru Legacy company vehicle (I hate it but it’s free) and I do not see a world where I could have an EV with the amount of driving I do. Thoughts on this?

I would not be buying an ev myself but I think the argument re range is overstated and redundant for the vast majority. Less than 5% of cars in the U.K. do over 15,000 miles a year, excluding weekends that’s less then 60 miles a day.

Tony's right. Rechargeable battery cars are not fit for purpose for many, probably most, people. Toyota probably about right as well. They'll get to about 30% of the market.

If the M25 was a perfect circle, it's diameter would be roughly 30-35 miles. The worst traffic I have experienced has been on the Autobahn in the Ruhr district in Germany (Essen, Dusseldorf, Duisburg, Dortmund etc, urban motorway gridlock). There is heaps about German traffic jams on line, but apparently Russia has the ultimate worst traffic problems.

the macan electric is cheaper than the old petrol one so if people bought the old one they will also buy this one, in uk the price may look ridiculous but on other markets its cheaper than the old one, the taxes outside uk make for example that the hybrid cayenne is cheaper than the full petrol one, in my country is 14000€ cheaper for a quicker car and in the "S" vs "S hybrid" is 40000€ cheaper, the govs in eu taxes the sht out ice cars making hybrids and electric not bad in comparation.

There are plenty of Model Y and maybe X owners without a solid option to upgrade. Porsche would do well just gulping those people up.

The price on the Macan is too high. The new Polestar 4, which as far as I'm concerned seems to be its closest rival in terms of size and looks, is sub 80k fully loaded. That's with 544hp, four wheel drive, 360 mile range, performance package and so on. And to have driven a Polestar 2P on track, they're very good when it comes to handing. May not be up there with the Taycan, but not far off.

Y'all never talk about international markets. Yes there's the UK and and EU but manufacturers still have the rest of the world to sell to as well, where it should be noted emissions regulations and climates differ

Major manufacturers around the world are struggling to sell EVs, largely because informed people realise there is no point to them. The planet is in the best shape it has been in for centuries and getting rid of ICE cars would be detrimental rather than helpful. But you have to know a bit about climatology and actual science to understand that. Petrol heads should stay petrol heads, enjoy their cars and not worry! I think Porsche are going down the wrong road.

EV Macan - unless you must - wait for 2030 facelift (it already needs one), with a solid 400+ range, better priced in a more competitive market & UK infrastructure becoming useable. Otherwise look forward to ‘first gen expense, kinks & issues’, queues for expensive hassle filled coal powered charging and 40% depreciation.

ICE cars never improved at the rate in which EV's are. A new stereo, slightly better mpg and some additions to styling and boom we all went out and bought them for a £1000 uplift. Now, we have range going from real world 150 to 300 plus miles. It makes the Taycan look prehistoric in no time at all. Which demonstrates a massive issue, 40/50/60% drops in value, where will it stop? I think we are only just starting to realise that the EV sausage factory is growing in size and purchasers are about to be hit by a massive bout of artery clogging cholesterol.

I don't really think it's fair to compare the price of the new Macan 4 to the old base spec Macan. The new Macan 4 lies in between the old Macan S and Macan GTS (just in terms of power). When making that comparison the new car's price really doesn't seem that bad, especially compared to other EV's.

Anyone else find it amusing about all the mugs who've overspent/overfinanced on average so called prestige cars now having their pants pulled down, oh dear what a shame, it was always going to happen. Cheap credit never lasts for ever.

Hi Sam and Tony! May I ask why you always use "it doesn't work for everyone" as an argument against electric vehicles in general when this is something that applies to all cars? Whether a Fiesta or a Panamera, there's no one car that works for everyone and every scenario if you ask me. Aside from that thanks for the podcast!

The MACN going electric is just so Porsche, now a mass production manufacturer, can meet the draconian EU emissions targets. At beats they're making an effort to keep 911 mostly ICE and protecting the GT cars from any electrification. This Macan will be just another EV, probably one of the best, but why you'd buy it and not the Audi equivalent for example? Electric powertrains just remove any UPS a Brand like Porsche might have. Just see Taycan, cool AF, no one buys it...

The new Macan is obviously a nice car, BUT...... 1. It's too expensive, you can buy a very well specced Macan S and still have change left over 2. As a product it won't be as good as the ICE vehicle which therefore plays in to the price, more for worse! 3. The price also mirrors the Taycan strategy of having a lot of bluster and hype and ultimately having frustrated customers at the end who can't get out of them because the bottom has fallen out of them. Bottom line is, if the EV transition transition it going to happen then right now every EV vehicle that comes out needs to be the same price or cheaper than it's ICE counterpart because they are sub par products. They're still new technology which ultimately in 5 years time will be out of date and redundant and therefore will lose their customers thousands. The problem I see coming down the road in 2/3 years time is that people will not be buying EV's because they've tried them and they either, don't work with their lifestyle or they've lost so much money on them, a problem I think will get even worse the more the years go on. For example, imagine when solid state batteries come out, what on earth is going to happen to the EV's with "conventional" batteries in?

I do enjoy the podcasts Sam but I think you should touch on the elephant in the room every now and again and that is, the growing misery facing motorists/ enthusiasts nowadays for example - potholes, the price of cars, government interference and bloody cameras everywhere, I agree with Tony, driving in a the UK is now awful and doesn’t appeal to me anymore, I realise it’s not as fluffy as supercars but it is reality and KZfaqrs should talk about these subjects, regardless of browny points 😢
