Since when is 17 considered "too old for art"?

The first one is such a humblebrag. My favourite manga artists are in their 30s and 40s now and is still thriving. Age is the least of our problems 😅

Tiktok is not the place to go for advice or tips. I swear, there was that video that shows how to make chocolate popcorn by simply putting chocolate bar in a rippling hot pan while you're popping kernals. Anyone who ever messed with chocolate or at least familiar with tempering chocolate would tell you it would just burn. Couldn't believe they would blatantly lie like that.

the best art advice I've seen on tiktok is to not always trust art advice on tiktok, and I think that says a lot about how often people on that platform who don't know enough give bad advice 💀

The worst "tutorials" are when they do something a 5 year old would do and then say "oh dont do this, do this" and then actually try to draw something. They aren't showing you a mistake you might do, they're just not trying.

Oh my gosh, that second one about tracing a photo and smudging the photo's colors around. I see this in art groups and it's SO obvious because the "imaginative details" (like the hair in that tiktok) are a totally different skill level. Like, that face is pretty cool. It has dimension and neat lighting. But that hair shading makes NO sense. It's just random blobs in random places. So when an artist does this and asks for critique and people say, "Wow, the face looks great, maybe you could add more detail and rendering like that to the hair," they can't do it. Because they don't actually know how to CREATE it, or even understand how it works on a fundamental level. I get so frustrated because if the artist just did their best to imitate the photo (without drawing directly on it), they'd probably learn a lot and maybe eventually they CAN draw like that.

The art tips are just "Don't go to school, do drugs!" at this point.

Not art advice from Tik Tok but can I please get annoyed at "artists" who just draw over official Disney (usually) artwork and then just change outfit and hair colour to the tune of hundreds of thousands of views?? Idk that particular trend drives me insane

You can get soft edges by using a hard brush and soft eraser. And you can get hard edges with a soft brush and hard eraser. Do this on a temp layer and merge down once satisfied. Sakimichan uses a soft brush and selection to create hard edges. She uses other techniques as well.

Yes, I love people roasting tiktods users that gives "tips". The platform itself is a cringy place already so why not.

The airbrush works in certain styles. However in other styles it just makes the drawing look muddy or cloudy. Also sketching with the airbrush (I’ve only had this problem) it leaves unnecessary blurry lines, and you sometimes have to fight it to get a decent line. As an artist, I only use the airbrush for lighting in some scenarios.

That one about the airbrush tool starts off good by saying “you don’t need hundreds of brushes, you can make good art with just a few” but then it kinda fucks it up by specifying that the airbrush is all you need. Instead, it should’ve said something more like “try to limit yourself experiment and find what works for you, I personally find the airbrush tool really cool”

With the whole "how is this tips" youd be surprised by how many people on TikTok argue that tracing and then pretending it's their is just "reference". My theory is that a lot of TikTok artists learning from these are quite literally very young new artists- like tweens starting drawing.
