Even further, Miku only started playing guitar after she recruited Kanami and became her student. She’s literally learned to play onstage in front of thousands. That’s incredibly brave! She’s obviously a very driven pigeon.💪🏻🤘🏻

"Kobato holds guitar." In the very earliest shows, Miku and Saiki were both just vocalists, but the band thought it would look better on stage if one of them held a guitar. Since, according to Miku, Saiki just didn't look right with it, she ended up being the one to hold the guitar. Five years later, with a lot of training from Kanami, she plays really great rhythm guitar and keeps getting better.

Agreed! Many have noted that if you listen to the live DVD releases through headphones, Kanami's guitar is panned right and Miku's is panned left. If you focus on Miku's playing, it's a amazing how solid a rhythm player she's become in such a short period of time. She must practice for hours everyday!

I watched their full 2 hour, 24-song concert in Taipei last month, and witnessed Miku do short guitar solos, notably at the intro to "Glory". The instrumental intro for "Play" was also extended, adding a break for Miku. She's really improved!

Dennis Barot There are fan cam videos of the extended intro to Play from the European tour this year, and you can see Miku get a short solo spot.

Out of all of them, I think that Akane would be the most fun person to just hang out with and chat. In other interviews, you find out that she's basically the "geek" of the band - she's a huge anime and manga fan. Plus she seems the most "together" and down-to-earth. Kanami has this sweet, shy "girl next door" persona, and then when she steps on stage, she's like the Tasmanian devil. Total transformation. Miku seems to always be the same, on stage or off.

A little detail - there's a translation mistake, when they're talking about Misa's dress, it's not "croatian" but "assassin" (both words are close in japanese) - she's dressed like an assassin maid

Interesting to see a reaction to an Interview. Note Kanami has a degree in Economics and Management Theory. And writes the music for their self-composed songs. (The first 3 albums were written for them, apart from 1 track.) Anyways time to check out the live performances.

The characters of Miku and Saiki always play to be antagonist, even in their dress. If you notice, Miku always wears a red flower (the red oni/ passion/ extrovertism) and Saiki a blue flower (the blue oni/ coldness/ introvertism). It is one of the many and careful details that this band practices. The competition for the music scenein Japan is ferocious (nothing to do with the Western panorama) and even the smallest detail is taken carefully. PD: Hope you get well soon.

Thanks for reacting. in this interview Saiki was still struggling with throat problems so was carefully managing her voice. She had throat surgery in 2017 successfully and now she is back at 100% (at the time of the interview she reckoned her voice was at 60%) Also check out Miku being very Miku ish in Japan in Motion with Miku Kobato, a small pigeon shaped wave of devestation all around Japan

She sounds like a Japanese Gwen Stefani, she does the same thing with the vibrato. They are like a mix between No Doubt and the Offspring.

Saiki is a lot more talkative now, but Misa is still very quiet. It will be really interesting when you get to a song where Misa gets more of the spotlight. Lol, it will be a bit of a surprise because you haven't seen what she is capable of yet. She is the only bass player that I know of that plays with a pick, her fingers, and slaps. She alternates between these ways of playing to change her sound within the same song. I'm not going to say which songs though.

Love these 2 reaction vids. The chemistry between these girls is amazing. On and off stage. You can see them interact in loads of their live vids. Don't You Tell Me, Real Existence and Freedom. Are three that stand out. Well worth a watch. 😁

As cool as Saiki appears, she also collects "Playrail" toy trains. I actually really like it that they come across as the least likely rock band in the world. How Kanami can go from almost blushing schoolgirl (despite being in her 20s) to rock god guitar hero onstage is stunning. There's a bit in the video for Dice where the song drops, and there's Kanami strumming away in the background, looking the coolest guitarist going, in a maid outfit.

"the least likely rock band in the world" - that's exactly what I really like too! I've seen so many bands and musicians accumulating rock cliches that I can't stand it anymore! So, having a airhead coffee expert guitar hero that sometimes act like a 8 years old girl trapped in an adult body is so refreshing (and I'm serious!). Akane & Saiki silly choregraphy on Silent Siren song (and let's not forget Misa's finale!) and Miku ... being Miku - what's not to love? And I forget: a real and total lack of pretention! (but real ambition and desire to always become better)

Dude, i saw last year (on a Japan YT channel) the price of those trains and rail roads "toys" in an Akihabara's store and they are f... expensive! Ok, you can have some small models of a shinkansen or some common wagons from 60 to 200 USD, but... Some were around 80,000 to 200,000 Yens (700 to 1,800 USD!!) And others scale-made collection locomotives from 280,000 to 440,000 Yens (2,500 to 4,000 USD!!!) That's 1/4 the price of a used car! (a Toyota Camry 2017 or a Volkswagen Beetle 2018, for example)

As the typical introvert, she doesn't like to be in the spotlight, her energy 'drains' from being sorrounded by a lot of people, interviews, fans, etc. But yeah, if anyone checks her social media she's actually pretty funny and cool !

I think the maid's outfit is more than just a visual thing. They are not full of ego, but full of talent. They want to serve their fans -- their "masters and princesses" -- with the best music. They have a culture of respect -- for each other and their craft and their fans.

Thanks for this! Probably the most entertaining and funny interview I've seen yet...learned some interesting tidbits about Kanami and Miku...looks like I'd get along quite well with these girls as I'm into the same stuff as them, especially horse racing!! Haha too funny. Misa and I would be able to discuss favorite whiskeys and bourbons, but I think with Kanami-san having studied Economics, we would be drinking coffee and chatting about the financial markets and state of the economy while her melodic guitar riffs play in the background. She is too adorable, like a little guitar wizard doll dressed as a maid. And her "crush" on Saiki is beyond precious.

This was a great interview with them early on. if I remember correctly as the interviews progressed you could see Miku pushing Saiki to take more of a leadership role and be more of a spokesperson. Kanami and Akane were all in with the concept. I believe at one point they talked about how it suddenly dawned on them that it was really going to happen. It's kind of fun to watch Saiki become more confident in the interviews and begin voicing her opinion more and more. Even MISA began to open up a little bit and become more talkative... I don't know so even though they don't Translate in the English in a lot of the other interviews it still is fun to watch them evolve...Miku is the glue though...no doubt. Genius...;) ps.. this Google voice thing on my phone sucks... just saying

Unfortunately, a more recent interview has been pulled from YT that exposed so much more of their “true” personalities and the development of Saiki’s and Miku’s relationship. It was hysterical to hear about their back stage antics especially Misa.

A lot of times between songs, they will look to Akane to count off the next one. Sometimes they will even go have like a huddle around the drums.

Volume balance is really good but this sort of thing stays fluid and requires constant attention and should probably be a normal part of the editing process. You have a nice clean house. Keep an eye on Misa's amp. Its the orange one. It normally has some kind of alcoholic beverage on top of it and by the time the concert is over its empty. She is also barefoot. There's a few fan base created tributes of different types and some are quite good. Your doingreally well its fun watching you becoming fans and the old songs and interviews will keep it fresh and interesting for a while as there's a lot to get through. They don't slow down they have songs that they play live that have never been released they just churn out song after song..Miku didn't even play guitar until Saiki joined the band so she will be written into the music more and more keeping the sound fresh.

They keep making songs because Kanamincho is a song writing machine. She said that she makes 10 riffs a month and was advised to write 100 songs a year. O__O She apparently has built up a song bank that can reach into whenever she needs.

Slim Dusty an Australian country music singer had many albums and sold more records in Australia than the Beatles and Elvis combined but Ican't think of any time that's been achieved in popular culture so I think we are about to see something very special.

I enjoyed watching the interview with you ladies. I found it interesting they said Kanami comes across as an "air-head". Yet she reads psychology. And in another interview, both Miku and Saiki say she composes all the music for the band. That doesn't sound like an air-head to me! Is it an act, or is it her meek personality that makes her come across as naive? Anyway, you said you plan on doing "Dice" next. That's a great song, though I'm more partial to their live releases. I'll throw the link to one of my favorites below again in case you two want to check it out. There's a lot of Miku interacting with both Saiki and Kanami on that one. Thank you for the link! I've noticed that a lot of times it's the quiet meek ones that have that hidden intelligence. I come off as an airhead a lot. When I speak too, I have a bad habit of speaking before I think and then it come out rather ditzy sounding. But I do a lot of reading and have several interests that probably comes off as nerdy. I relate to her ❤❤ ~ Sabrina

That's a great version of "Freedom" - they are near the end of a 25-song show and still bouncing with energy and having the time of their life on stage. It really shows how much this band feeds off the energy of the crowd and takes it to another level when they play live.

Saiki lost her voice during this live concert. Since then she got a vocal cord polyp surgery and seems like her voice is longer-lasting now. IMO she sings better now as well.

I have watched anime off and on since high school. Sadly, I have not seen Inuyasha. 🙈 My middle daughter, who has seen it, keeps telling me I need to watch it ASAP. Lol. The most recent anime I finished a few months back (started a new job and haven’t had quite as much time recently) was Black Bullet. Sabrina and I both apologize for any pronunciation issues we ever have. Our biggest issue is more our accents than anything. Though I’m currently learning two other languages, which is helping a lot. being aware of the dark side of the business, being females, and in japan, the exploitation of their naiveness of the bussiness is a true factor in their success. what do you believe got them here aside from their music talent(which actually have little to do in the male dominated buss.)?
