I agree with the other commenters that Saiki seems to have relaxed a lot lately in some of the live videos. Even Misa doesn't seem quite as shy. And Kanami has gotten wilder. At one of the recent Japan shows she took a swig of whiskey from Misa's bottle. And Miku is still completely nuts - po.

Like here (I sincerely recommend reacting to it, it was an incredibly great part of the recent Hamburg show): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iN6dhcyIrcCXhH0.html It's actually three songs in a row, 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗠𝗘 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗘𝗥, 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗢𝗠 and 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗨𝗠. You'll get Akane's solo in Freedom, and Kanami's wild solo before Moratorium. You will not be disappointed, I promise. Take Me Higher is one of their heaviest songs, and in this live version, Kanami is filling this song with her amazing guitar work all the way through. They've decided to remove the bass-guitar conversation from it, which was one of the highlights in all the concerts during the last year. You'll have to check that "conversation" sometime in future, definitely. But in this version, it's absent. But so much is added in its stead, o my...

There is an excellent two minute interview on KZfaq listed as Band-Maid 4. Miku explains how when they started they all dressed up as "standard" maids but as time passed they have become "barbed maids". She also describes taking song after song to their former record label only to be told no over and over again. She goes on to explain how that has all changed now. Very informative. Can't wait to see them in LA.

The second part of the interview is the most informative part. This band is definitely like a variety show, which is one of the reasons why they're so entertaining during live performances. Looking forward to more band-maid stuff. Extra info: Miku is 5'1''. She is also the oldest member of the band. Saiki is the youngest. Misa is very shy, but she is the troll of the band. Akane's appetite is a reoccurring joke that you will see more of in the future. Song recommendations: anything live, including fancams.

You're so right about Saiki, off stage she's cold and quite aloof. Then she gets the mic in her hand and she switches on and just oozes charisma. When I saw them live in London last November I couldn't take my eyes off her (even though Misa had been my favourite up until then). Can't wait for all the reactions. They just released a new vid 2 days ago. "endless Story". Well worth a listen, very polished and quite a sophisticated vibe. 😁

Recently, Saiki has been way more smiling and relax even off stage - I easily made her laugh (and Misa too) during the meet & greet in Bochum (Germany concert) - no coldness at all! But you're right: on stage she has a incredible charisma that no video was able to catch untill recently (watch Hambourg "Logo" videos to see what I mean) - I've seen tons of great frontman & woman in concert and she's easily amongst the best ones, very confortable with the audience.

@@realdocloco Lucky you... That actually showcased their great personalities very brightly. Oh man... they've decided to return the bag, which they, of course, did not need for themselves, but which is a collectable for any fan. Such a perfect integrity and a high sense of justice! Very rarely you see a musician who could serve as a role model, most of the great rock stars were actually quite nasty people in everyday life. @K Darlings, if you wonder what we are talking about, watch this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pcB_Z7SKq6u0e2w.html It's a 7 minutes break in the middle of the Bochum/Germany show, where they are just having a rest, probably because they were tired from the London gig the day before. Miku is talking (her English has improved significantly over the last year), and succeeds in making other members of the band talk as well. Usually, they try to escape such invitations from Miku, she chases them with a microphone on stage, and they hide behind amplifiers, each other, and other scenic objects :-) But in Bochum, they were very much relaxed, for some reason. We've seen an unheard-of phenomenon: MISA came to the microphone and talked! :-) And then, of course, that incredible thing of returning BAND-MAIKO bag to Doc Loco... That was fantastic. And then somebody threw a teddy bear on stage... That turned to be cute in the end, but the fans were actually alarmed post factum, because throwing things on stage is a bad practice, and we don't want irresponsible fans to pick up this habit. Thanks a lot for your wonderful reactions! I sincerely enjoy them.

Saiki's mom has even commented about how different she seems. She has seen videos of Saiki on stage, and Saiki on stage is super different than Saiki day-to-day. And, Misa's mom has commented that Saiki's princess personality is the real deal; it's not just an affectation for the band.

Wow, you have more willpower than me -- no way I could have taken those earphones out when "alone" started up! It's a fun interview, but it's also amazing how much they've changed since then. It's only been 3 years, but they've really developed and matured, both musically and in their interviews... well, except for Miku, who has not aged a day and is exactly the same character whenever you see her, on stage or off (well, she has actually matured a lot musically, but her personality is eternal).

I thought the same. Why would you miss the opportunity to react to the songs played during this interview? It would be a legitimate reaction, like any other you do. What you say about "reacting to them in the future," is a bit funny, believe me, because you still have 70+ songs to react to, and by the time you cover the basics, there will be a new album published in December, and there will be at least 20 more songs to react to. Don't worry, you'll be busy for a year or two, if you react only to the BAND-MAID songs :-) And if you cover their interviews as well... it will be 10 years :-)

9:30 For your information, when Akane mentions that she ate 120 bowls of "Wanko-Soba", the portion in one bowl is about one "mouthful" of soba. Although the bowls are quite small, stuffing 120 portions is quite a lot. Drummers must be burning a lot of calories.

'Wanko soba' It is one of the soba that comes to Iwate Prefecture (Hanamaki, Morioka). A style that puts a bite-sized soba filled with hot soba soup into the bowl of the customer, and every time it finishes eating, the waiter keeps putting soba in the bowl one after another until the customer is full and the lid is closed Is the basis. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y9mnh62T3t6Vdnk.html

I didn't see anyone comment on this so I thought I'd just add it. Then the MC said that he ate many plates of sushi "private de" (privately), this doesn't mean secretly or anything like that... it means that it was on his own time and not part of work (these people often do eat somewhere with cameras rolling etc to make tv shows) Also, wanko soba has smaller than normal portions that people often race against others to eat as quickly as possible. After 20+ bowls, it gets really filling. It says the average is 50 bowls but Akane did 120 bowls -- way more than most people's max. Wanko soba is probably like a fifth of the size of a regular bowl of soba. You can probably find videos on youtube of people competing in wanko soba speed eating competitions. In those cases, staff are there to constantly refill your bowl with another, another, another portion of soba noodles.

This isn't spelled out in the video because it's obvious in Japanese. The characters that make up Miku's surname are: 小鳩. The first character, 小, means "small." The second character, 鳩, is pigeon or dove. Together, it is "small pigeon," but it is read as "Kobato." (Each character has different pronunciations depending on context, like 小 is read as "shou" in 小学校 (shougakkou, or elementary school.) And, it's a stage name. "Ppo" is the onomatopoeia for the sound pigeons make in the Japanese language, rather than "coo" in the English language. Like Japanese cats say "nyah, " and Japanese dogs say "wan wan."

This was great! I have actually never watched pt 1, but I knew all of this over time. It's true, Part 2 is more informative, but this is a good intro. One thing I find interesting is the birthdays. Kanami and Misa are Libra(Air). Akane is Saggitarius(Fire). Saiki is Aquarius(Air). And Miku is a Cusp, Libra/Scorpio(Air/Water). Cusp people are very active, are very different and hard to understand. Air signs are the smart signs( A lot of Air here), Fire signs are more coordinated than the others. Water is emotional.

I understand that people may love it just for the sake of fun, in the same way as they talk about Harry Potter's-style magic, but there are so many people who tip over that edge and start to take it serious, that I am rather concerned about such amusements. It's like with alcohol. People enjoy it, and develop a whole gourmet industry around it, and it all seems fine... until you see the father of your wife in his two-week drinking bout, when he steals all money from the house, escapes to the street and drinks there with the bums... Whatever. Sorry for the off-topic.

If you like to react to other stuff, rather than just songs, here's bit from a gig in London last year, which starts with Miku talking to the crowd, and ends with all the band having a go on the drums. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpyZhslomLLNgWQ.html . It shows their nature on stage, and just how much they enjoy being there. The first two minutes after the intro are hard to understand, as Miku rattles off a lot of Japanese - presumably deliberately for fun (knowing the crowd won't understand) as it's 100% English after that. You can still pick out little bits of English in those first minutes though.
