Hi Sarah. I am really delighted that you have listened to these two masterpieces by Skid Row! Both are up there with my absolute favourite songs and I love them to the depths of my soul. Trust me - after 30 years of repeat listening they are still as majestic as they were the first time I heard them - and not many songs manage that! Just like the Zeppelin song the other day, these are both perfect in every way. As you correctly deduced, Wasted Time is about addiction (specifically a friend of the band who was addicted to heroin) and In A Darkened Room is about child abuse. Both powerful subjects that most 'Hair Metal' bands would never tackle, proving that Skid Row were the real deal and for a few short years were unbelievably awesome. If only Bas and Rachel hadn't fallen out over supporting Kiss then who knows what they may have accomplished. To this day Rachel Bolan is the only member who refuses to heal the rift and act like a man in his 50s instead of kindergarten pupil. A crying shame.😭 Back to the songs ...... I can't see the point in separating them as I will likely say the same about both, so basically .... WOW!! I don't believe anyone (male in particular) has ever delivered vocal performances better than these. No auto tune or gimmicks. Just sheer bloody talent!👏👏👏 Sebastian Bach was incredible (his voice is a bit shot these days sadly,) back then - such power, expression and emotion. Amazing. As is Scotti Hill's lead guitar work!! Those solos are phenomenal, and his guitar tone is probably my favourite of all lead guitarists - infact it has been since I first heard it in 1989! Skid Row are still my band of choice, and their logo is etched onto my very bones, I think! I return to them constantly, especially when I need solace or reconnecting with my true self. I definitely think you should treat yourself to both the STD and Slave To The Grind on vinyl, Sarah. They are essential and won't disappoint. Slave is in my top 10 best albums ever list - probably fighting it out with Appetite for destruction/ Nevermind/and Metallica Black for my outright favourite album. I would love to see you react to all the Skid Row songs if you can bear it, as I think you will love them all. Mind, as a warning, you have now listened to both the ballads on Slave. Quicksand Jesus is also a power ballad but some of the others go pretty hard and heavy. The band at the time wanted to prove they were a serious Metal band like Metallica and Guns n Roses and not in the Bon Jovi territory. In particular I would really love to see you react to the one two punch of Monkey Business and Slave to the Grind, as this is how they are lined up on the album, providing the band's real statement of intent when it came out and I can remember the impact it had on me when I listened to it after school on the day of release. Biggest mind blowing reaction to music I have ever had. I already loved the band, and never dreamed they could actually get better but they did ..... and then some! You have made my evening, Sarah! Its about his best friend Steven Adler of the original Guns N Roses and how Coke took his life over , Steven Adler was one of the five originsl members of GNR and wrote a lot of the original Appetite For Distruction songs including Mr Brown Stone and Nitetrain , AXL Rose threw him out in 1990 for drug use wich was a shit call as they all did drugs , Stevn Adler is always a part of GNR history , and the only real Guns N Roses is Slash, Axl, Duff, Izzy and Steven Adler , thats real Guns N Roses !

Yeah get both of those albums. He wrote this song about Steven Adler, who was the drummer for Guns-N-Roses, who was very badly addicted to herion and just couldn't get him to stop, which is why he was fired from the band.
