I wasn't a big fan of the song at first but it really grew on me. Su's vocals are impressive as always and the harmonies with Moa are just heavenly. Glad you liked it!

Everyone has their own interpretation of the song. In reality, there are painful things like wars, disasters, and pandemics that rob the world of its beautiful colors. But this song is about bringing back the beautiful colors, starting with us! I feel the positivity of the song 😁. I like the fact that it doesn't deny or criticize anyone. I am looking forward to seeing the one and only new BABYMETAL next year when these songs will be performed in concert. It will be HEAVY METAL if you listen to them, HAPPY METAL if you watch them, and I will be so happy if I can witness in real time the completion of a worldview that only they can create 😭.

Welcome back - great reaction. 'Monochrome' is a beautiful song - but it is deep too. They never put out a lyric video before, I'm thinking they really want us to know what they are singing so we can decide what the song means (as ever it is open to interpretation of course and we will all have our own thoughts, which is not a bad thing). From my starting point of almost complete ignorance I have been learning so much from comments under other reactions about Ragnarok and the Norse mythology being referenced and the general consensus is there are also many references to the bombing of Hiroshima (Su-metal's home town) and Nagasaki, even if it is not specifically about those tragic events. The "monochrome firework" could be the bomb and the tree they used in the visuals throughout and that was finally shown in colour at the end could be the Hiroshima Peace Tree that survived the bombing as well as the tree of life from Norse mythology. As ever BABYMETAL do leave us with a feeling of hope and optimism and the message that no matter how long the night, the morning will still come. Colour will return to the world.

Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse.🦊🤘🌐 So good to see you once again with another BM new single, Verdy-Metal. I have no doubt this song is gonna be beautiful when performing live, can't wait for next month and see the live premiere of all these new singles including the third one. They're probably using the Norse mythology, Yggdrasil (the Tree Of Life) as the Aogiri tree, one of the survivor tree in Hiroshima, and the monochrome fireworks altogether along with more references as a metaphor, once you know where SuMetal was born it all makes sense. But instead of drown in negativity she's giving us hope that if a war or any other sad moment (like the recent pandemic) is happening nowadays, the colors will be back. ☔☀️🌈 Like i told you before, i can also see a thin connection between these two songs, the first one giving and showing us the brave and willing to fight for the future, a call of arms and the prelude of a war; in this second part they're showing us the consequences of that "divine attack", but even with that sad scenario the hope is still there. We all know so far that this time they're introducing us to their metalverse with 10 different worlds and songs, and we're gonna see the full picture once the full album is out, probably some more hints with the next singles coming and the live performance next January. Welcome back and thanks from Japan 有難う 💛。 When I heard "Divine Attack" a month ago, I thought "We (BM fans) all know this is just one of their various faces that we are going to witness from now on. Let's not be judgmental in haste." This second song has proved it, but in a more drastic way than I expected. Su's matured but pure voice resonates with the bones in my whole body like No Rain No Rainbow did. Yielding myself to the resonance, I am now pondering on what the implication of the lyric is. Many fans see some relation with nuclear disaster in Hiroshima. I perceive, however, something different. "Ragnarok" is known as "Twilight of the Gods". Then Su sings "No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive". I see more universal thing that BABYMETAL is praying for.

Suzuka was born in Hiroshima and this song is about the bomb. for me, this is one of the best BM song. i have bought tickets to their show in april next year and i can't wait 😇

Nice reaction, thanks! Although I still prefer "Divine Attack" musically, "Monochrome" got me from the lyrics perspective and then also grew on me musically. Because they went really deep here, building a whole huge allegory with several layers of significance. There are dark references (to the end of the world, for example) and also the visuals seem to confirm that direction. But in the end they wanted to give a message of optimism (a very BABYMETAL move) withe the final lines ("We will illuminate the world in rainbow colors. Just smile.") and depicting the final tree in colors. It could be "Yggdrasil", a survivor tree ("Hibakujumoku"), the tree of life... you name it. Until next time!

I love every component of this song equally, even the video. Everything sounds so good, or smooth as you said. I don't think it's a particularly exciting song, although not every track has to be! I think it's the first time they mix classic hard rock with the usual metal and bits of other genres. I'll copy my analysis of the song + video from another reaction: The song is filled with references to Japan's horrible experience with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, like the grey colors from the ash, the black rain, the surviving trees (Hibakujumoku) and the oleander flower (official flower of Hiroshima). It wouldn't be far-fetched to *imagine* that the girl with the umbrella and ponytail is meant to portray Su. I've heard her grandmother was a survivor and I know Su grew up in Hiroshima before moving to Tokyo sometime during the Sakura Gakuin days.

Hi Verdy....this has to be one of the most difficult subjects to write and sing a song about. Don`t think any body has done this about the atom bombing of Hiroshima and the foolishness of war in general. Needless to say BabyMetal have pulled it off along with Suzuka`s voice.
