His movements on TV did not compare to how wild he was in concert. We should understand that.

This screaming is actually not even representative of what it really was like. This was in a TV studio with a couple hundred girls. Teenagers were only allowed in one or two sections. Imagine his concerts with 10-20,000. There is documentation of how crazy it was.

He was incredible, his charisma and stage presence are outstanding. Imagine that before Elvis no one had done this before, people may look back and think this is tame but this was revolutionary in the music industry. If you seen Elvis live at that time on stage, not on TV his movements were far more extreme and sexual and that is what the uproar was all about. As John Lennon said "Before Elvis there was nothing" thanks

I love watching these live versions of Elvis back in the early days. Hound Dog is a great song! It was first recorded by Big Mama Thornton in 1952. Elvis made it famous & performed it on the "Ed Sullivan" show in 1956. Many times you will see the backup quartet singers called "The Jordanaires" with him. They performed with Elvis in live appearances, on his recordings & in his films in the 50's-70's. Elvis' movements were considered scandalous to show on TV. Some shows only filmed him from the waist up.

He WAS definitely GREAT. I saw this TV masterpiece when it aired in 1956 during my senior HS year and was privileged to see him in concert at the local National Guard Armory. What a time that was. And, YES, the female screaming broke our eardrums. But great fun. Thanks for giving him some time on your channel.

The performance of Hound Dog that shocked the world was on June 5, 1956 The Milton Berle. This was before Ed Sullivan Show. This was the first time we ever saw a white man sing and move to the music. In those days everyone just swung their arms for sawed their body, but they didn’t move their feet or hips. Elvis also sung with such passion and energy. He really wasn’t a trained dancer per say he just moved his body to the music. That was unheard of then. Many of those video have edited out his feet and leg movements and sometime part of the whole song. Below is an unedited full version of Hound Dog, that shocking day. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbCeibR1pp_WeHU.html

Yeah he arrived at his right time for sure. Looking like he does, growing up on black gospel and blues, getting those crowds 11 years after WW2 ended (not long, that’s just 2012 to us), he was an outlet for folks/teenage girls to be adored. Similar to the Beatles after JFK met his fate and the US was in mourning, they came and allowed happiness/breathing.

I'm 80 and lived his stardom starting in 56, my Dad didn't want me to watch this show and sent me to my room. I creeped in the hall and heard it anyway. Every church, and school leader hated him and called it devil music, my parents loved Bing Crosby and couldn't image anyone so opening sexual. If you want a real eye opening of his struggle in the racist 50's you should watch the short documentary called "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" you won't believe how much flack he got, death threats and everything. thanks for your great reaction, Elvis made 31 movies, recorded over 700 songs, from gospel to opera. His 23 year career changed music and culture. Thanks and Be Blessed.

Its hard for recent generations to grasp that Elvis was considered vulgar and lewd But in 1954 when he started "this was the twerking of the time" He began moving in his first performances out of instinct-thats how the music moved him Later he just played up on it more. John Lennon famously said "Before Elvis there was nothing" If you want to see Elvis at his zenith in 1970 Watch "Suspicious Minds live in Vegas 1970 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gauHd9GVsaqoe3k.html

You'll notice his stop/start dancing. He was under pressure to tone it down on Ed Sullivan (the leg crossing etc), but watch him on the 1956 Milton Berle Show singing this, snd others, in his white jacket. You'll see some real dancing and understand the energy! It would be good if you could show that version. J.H., England.

How times have changed, eh? For a period of time, Elvis was only filmed from the waist up due to his gyrating dance moves being considered vulgar. Nowadays, there’s no end of ‘W.A.P.’ on full display and it feels as if you should be paying some kind of 18+ subscription fee.

To really appreciate what his concerts were like (he toned it down for tv, given that there was talk about him getting banned), could you do a reaction on Trouble/Russwood Park/Elvis from the 2020 Elvis movie? It’s hard to fathom but they wanted to jail him for his concerts, but back then, this was completely new and unheard of. I’ve been going down the Elvis rabbit hole and getting an understanding of just how transformative this guy was, not just to music, but to society in general. Throwing panties on the stage? Yeah, that started with this guy. As Bruce Springsteen said in a tribute to Elvis, once Elvis appeared on tv, all bets were off. Change was coming and Elvis happened to be just the right guy, with the right musical ability and charisma, at the right time of history, to give it a nudge.

Elvis wasn’t really labeled as a womanizer. In his early years some who dated him, as his fan numbers were growing so fast said; he could be a flirt. He loved and respected his fans, but you could tell many times he himself was taken back by the ladies reactions to him, he’d chuckle and with that iconic smile/smirt, in response, during the song, he didn’t have to try, it just happened. And he’d respond to his fans by teasing or flirting with them on stage. He said in an interview, the crowds reactions would bring out the ham in him. He didn’t have to womanize. He had to work at the opposite because their reactions even took him by surprise. One time, “as he toured the circuits, in 1950’s b4 they’d established some reasonable security measures”, they were on the platform that extended connected to the back of a big truck and the women rushed the platform almost turning it over. That’s the one time his first band said they were really scared out of their wits. That initial band also joked that they were they only band led by an ass, because the women’s scream were so loud the only way they could tract were Elvis was in the songs was by his hip and leg moves.

This was a Big Mama Thornton song. He sang it without permission or attribution. She never got a dime. Its still an iconic performance, and he made the song his own, just giving Context for how the music industry operated back then. Oh, and the mob controlled most venues and, by extension, many many artists were under their control

I watch your Elvis reactions every time they pop up. Good reactions. However, you notegirls loosing it only “on the big ones, like Michael Jackson..”. You & everyone else relate Elvis to the big ones of your time. Elvis was The First Big One. Even the black artists didn't move like Elvis; in public or tv that is. He did open that door. Like Lennon said, “Before Elvis, there was nothing.”
