Only around 11 or 12% of bi men are fully out, from the general USA/UK population - say multiple surveys. Fix biphobia and you fix that problem. Gay people need to stop with their biphobia and perpetuating the myths they think about bi people. Straight people too of course, but it hurts worse from gay community (and there's just as many bi men as there are gay men).

By best friend's little brother is 12 and when we started talking about ballet (I'm dancing but as a hobby) he confessed that he would love to do ballet or gymnastics but he is afraid of being bullied. I would never fit in one, and if it would be one, that's big enough, it wouldn't even be able to make me look more flat anyways 😬. Edit: I'm just reading this comment I wrote over one year ago and it's so ironic because I've been wanting to get a binder all that time xD why was I lying to myself here ㅠㅠ but yeah it would probably be too uncomfortable (and expensive too lol) for my big size anyways :')

you can’t bring up the past/original state of something and use it as an indication for its modern equivalent. Like, I’d assume that many other aspects of ballet have changed since its origin. People do this so much for some reason, and even more so in etymology/language, like for example “The N word was used as a slur/derogatory term for black people in the past, therefore you shouldn’t use it” even though modern usage of the word is done in an effort to reclaim it and render it in a positive light . Same with the word “gay”, which originally means “joyful” or “happy”, but the usage of “gay” in that context/with that definition is technically considered archaic now. Things change, and IMO the contemporary usage/state of said “thing” is the one that should be held with the most consideration,. That being said, I think the stereotype of all male ballet dancers being gay is dumb and problematic, because it’s used in a negative sense, portraying being gay/“feminine” as undesirable.

As a fencer and swordsman, I have been told that ballet used to be a common exercise for men training in fencing. I've known some girls in ballet and I don't think it's a coincidence our first positions are the same. In that context, ballet can be incredibly masculine. It's just part of learning how to run your blade through the flesh of your enemies.

Rachel x I’m pretty sure it’s because having pointed toes and straight legs just makes the whole routine look better, like the finishing touches on the routine basically. I’m not sure exactly, but it seems like it would be the same reason as to why ballet dancers do the same thing.

Being from the Philippines, I'm not into ballet so much, but I take pride in our Prima Ballerinas (Maniya Barredo of the New York Ballet, and Lisa Macuja-Elizalde of the legendary Kirov Ballet in Russia)! Hats off to the men and women who entertain us despite sore feet, strained muscles and ligaments and tortured toes and nails! 😍😍😍
@adiksadiatabs
@adiksadiatabs 3 жыл бұрын
What does being from the Philippines have to do with not being into ballet when the country has its own troupe? Western companies aren’t the only ones that perform well. Colonial mentality at its best 😏
@allansorianomorales3950
@allansorianomorales3950 3 жыл бұрын
@@adiksadiatabs please read the entire post and try to understand. Did I not say that I'm proud of our Prima Ballerinas??! Is there any mention of not liking Philippine Ballet and being in love with other country's ballet company??! Or has it escaped your thick skull that BOTH Maniya Barredo and Lisa Macuja-Elizalde ARE FROM THE PHILIPPINES?! I just mentioned the New York Ballet and Kirov Ballet as that is where they trained respectively! I highly suggest you keep your ugly comments and IGNORANCE to yourself!!!
@SANDUSK471
@SANDUSK471 3 жыл бұрын
I think adiksadiatabs problem is in the nuance of your first half of the sentence "Being from the Philippine, I'm not into ballet so much," as if it's two correlated things when it doesn't necessarily reflect any connection whatsoever You can just simply said, "I'm not into ballet but I'm proud with our Prima Ballerina that has successful career abroad (mention the name and the company)" Or maybe something that goes along like, "Ballet is not really that famous in Philippine but I'm happy that we have Prima Ballerina such as (mention names) in a well-known dance troupe that brings them international recognition,"
@allansorianomorales3950
@allansorianomorales3950 3 жыл бұрын
@@SANDUSK471 it's because ballet is not that recognized in the Philippines. Very few people attend ballet shows because it's thought of as "expensive" and too high-strung. But kudos to Lisa Macuja-Elizalde who works tirelessly to bring ballet closer to the masses, and truth be told, it's only now that many Filipinos have been introduced to ballet, myself included. But thank you for your observation. Much appreciated. 👍👍👍

the bullying section reminded me a lot of my experiences when I was a ballet dancer. I’m not a male, but I still got bullied by fellow dancers and school kids which was the major cause of me quitting :/ I think if I stuck through I would’ve been decent at ballet lol, but there’s always different people who can handle things at different levels

Great video, dispelling myths barely batting an eye. I have such admiration for ballet dancers. I’d love to do it but don’t have the discipline. It’s a beautiful thing to watch. I got to see one live once when a group came to my home down on a smaller stage and felt so lucky! BTW every woman knows what it’s like to take off the dance belt, that’s exactly what taking off a bra is like. Congrats on the 100k!
