James reacting to Blubberella is the best thing that's ever happened on this podcast. Also, at the end when James says Ackbar should have done the Holdo maneuver, do you *really* think Disney would want him suicide bombing his ship into another? Just imagine the "allahu akbar" comments!

Ethan Eckoff Well I saw Rampage on Netflix once. And its basically a movie that glorifies going on a mass killing spree. As the MC is basically painted as a hero all because watching the news annoys him or some shit like that. Fucker even survives in the end. So the message of the movie is pretty much. If your angry over dumb shit kill an entire town in a shooting spree and you'll be able to get away with it.

Honestly, the 90's X-Men show is 100% the source of any like for Gambit I have. I loved the art-style, the accent, his relationship with Rogue, etc. If the movie wasn't like that version then it's pretty much lost all my interest anyway, so the delay doesn't bother me.

So, not sure if someone else has already posted this (and if you have I apologize for stepping) but Wil Wheaton, in the novel, is just the vice-president of the OASIS User Council (not the actual president of the USA) who has been re-elected for near a decade because of his stance on protecting user rights inside the OASIS. I can't say what his role in the movie universe is. I heard in another video that Wil Wheaton was on a poster in the movie (I didn't see this poster myself when I saw the movie).

If you have to read the source material in order to understand a movie or for the movie to make sense, then the movie has failed in storytelling. The movie ought to be a ble to stand on its own, otherwise it need not exist to begin with.

I’m just saying what everyone else is thinking.” They all got in a line and proceeded to spit in my face individually. Thanks Spielberg. #ReadyPlayerOne “Want to play Goldeneye on my Atari 2600 it’s a hack port?” That one just got me a kick in the bollocks. Thanks Spielberg. You told me nerds were cool, and that hot chick would want to watch Star Trek with me. LIES. IT’S ALL LIES.

I could be wrong, but it certainly seems like reading the book enhances the movie for many because the book is so up it's own ass (and badly written), so when compared to the book, the movie comes off as a much more light and breezy entertainment. The movie comes off much better when one has the really pretentious, up it's own assery of the book to contrast it with. For the record, I've read the book (it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Maybe a 4 out of 10?); haven't seen the movie. Don't plan on seeing the movie.

Hey just a minor point of clarification in defense of this fictional version of Will Wheaton (very important stuff indeed)- He's only president of the user-based government of the Oasis, not the US. He basically just campaigns on keeping everything neutral and not fucking things up too badly so he keeps getting reelected. I'm sure if he were actually the president he would fix all the things. Probably.

Surprised there was no mention of Ready Player One basically being Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for gamers- with excessive references to stuff kids in the 2040s will have little knowledge of. I thoroughly love your podcast. But it makes me sad to hear you talk so badly about RP1. I think there's kind of a disconnect if you haven't read the book. I know neither of you will take the time to read the book, but if you did I think it would clear up a lot of your misconceptions / misunderstandings/gripes about the film. I left this film feeling a childlike magic that I used to get from films. So it just makes me sad to hear it picked apart so roughly. I do appreciate all that you guys do and I respect your opinions on it. I just really wish you would take the time to read the book. Thanks for all that you do. Cheers.
