As someone who lived in Seattle at the time, let me assure you that the unmasking of Phoenix Jones was not the shocking event the local news made it out to be. People figured out who he was pretty early because he was frequently spotted getting in and out of his girlfriend's car. He had a reputation for hassling drunk people and was largely regarded as a nuisance by the bartenders and doormen in my neighborhood.

I'm from Petoskey and I remember my dad talking about how he would just show up to random crime scenes out of nowhere. The one story I can recollect is that he showed up to car crash and asked the officers on the scene what was the problem and got arrested on the spot. It was honestly one of the funniest things and I always wondered what happened to him afterwards. Good work as usual and thanks for the coverage of our possibly drunk crimefighter.

There's a guy near where I grew up who actually owns a batmobile and a bat suit, and he's known for roaming the street and not only taking pictures with people, but he actually has helped people in the past. Dudes a good guy, making kids smile and actually helping people instead of being a vigilante (He wears a highly detail Dark Knight era batsuit, those wondering)

Years ago I was on a national express coach that ran overnight to london (I didn't get there till like 5 or 6 am) At one point about 3am or so another passenger got on bus a guy dressed as Dark Knight batman, I honestly thought I was hallucinating because it was so werid, and the costume was really well made. Anyway turned out guy was going to a comic convention and was a solicitor (while asking if he dealth with injury claims from batman) but was a chilled guy, even bought a bottle of water and a sandwich to a homless person sleeping nearby the coach depot..

The Petoskey Batman is a true example of what a real life superhero should be. Goofy to be sure, but through that he became a public advocate for communities pulling together to keep themselves safe. As a sidenote, I’m kinda surprised that Spider Dan wasn’t hired by more companies to climb their own buildings. Maybe they offered on the condition that he wore safety gear and he declined?

Extreme liability and image issue if he falls to his demise, as well as bad morale for the business. Imagine still having to go to work in that same building every day and looking at the exact spot Dan was no more every time and the image of it never leaves you.

Fellow Batman here. 8 year vet at the thing. I can confirm, it's better to pull your community together. Movies tend to glorify vigilantism but it, isn't really that... cool or fun in reality. They overlook the paranoia and physical toll it takes on someone. Talking from experience which I cannot legally go into too much detail over. We need more Batmen like him.

Technically, if the only criteria to be a criminal is to "break rules, disagree with police and interfering with them" then even Batman would be considered one as he lives by his own rules and always at odds with the police, the only reason why he's not behind bars is because they literally can't catch or detain him so they gave up and decided to work with him instead lmao.

Well, that and Batman actually solved crimes and stopped criminals. He didn't just interfere in investigations or annoy the folks conducting them. The billions of dollars didn't hurt either. Fictional characters are often more noble and effective than their real-life counterparts.

Hold on, I have to rant about something unimportant real quick: The idea of batman being a loner is a huge misconception. After Robin was created in 1940, comic sales almost doubled. Ever since then Batman has never NOT had a sidekick. And after the introduction of the Justice League in 1960 he has never NOT been apart of a super team with many of the Justice Leaguers frequently visiting him in his cave. He also created a second team that fit his agenda better called The Outsiders. It doesn't stop there in terms of team ups and relationships but I think that's enough. Batman is cool and a team player if a bit emotionally challenged with some dark external conflicts. Not a dark, loner character that pisses people off for the wrong reasons. He is such a big part of our zeitgeist to the point a man in real life is willing to go to jail trying to be him. So I feel compelled to clear this up. That's all, thanks for reading.

For real. Superman and Nightwing (the two nicest, hopeful dudes in the DC Canon) are his best friends. That says a lot about what canon Batman has developed into. After Jason Todd's death in the 80's, Batman went crazy from having a lack of a partner. Which was a huge factor in the upcoming story about him getting a new sidekick lol. The "I work alone" thing that was birthed from the Nolan movies didn't even work in that Narrative. Batman had an insane amount of help in those movies.

TRUE STORY: when Unbreakable the movie came out I was a junior in high school . I was so just lost and typical teenage bullshit. But I was obsessed with (at the time) SMALLVILLE , and anything superhero. So when Unbreakable came out I bought a long black jacket, wore a black hoody , black motorcycle hard knuckle gloves, and a black mini scarf to hide my face. I made my own weapons like bo staffs with a semi sharp point . And in the dead of winter... In Chicago... Would walk around "looking for trouble ". I'm not crazy just was lonely and bored. Lol needless to say I stopped like after 2x. Oh n I'm 5'5, 120lbs so yeah... Who yah gonna call... NOT ME! The point I was also trying to make but neglected to really get to was that for some reason that movie Unbreakable at that time in my life gave me some sort of hope that maybe if I was there to just help one person who couldn't help themselves than it gave my mondaine, boring life some meaning. Much like Bruce Willi's characted David Dunn. I dunno just want to say thank you to all of you who commented and didn't make fun of me, but instead restored my faith in humanity again. @@domingosjunior6805 Sounds familir to a few cases in UK, it's a vicious cycle, those that do run these 'pedo hunts' want it ongoing once they form their own community and connections, and if they can't find known suspects will inciting others to becoming targets. Other times the people they target may be aware and setup someone has nothing to do with it so these hunt groups attack the wrong person and get into trouble. And it's not like this information is forwarded to police it's instead exchanged round the mob with some looking an excuse to hurt someone. On the surface they appear to be doing 'good' but are driving offenders deeper underground.

tbh in early eps of the show arrow the cops did not like the green arrow and it was against the law in the show to be a vigilante at the time, so this is more realistic, there is alot of content where super heroes are seen as villains, take j jonah jameson with spider man, and walter peck with the ghost busters

@@jackcero44sorry but nope, not at all. The comic book premiered in '08, the film adaptation in '10, Phoenix and the RCSM were not a thing till '11. Trust me I vividly remember living through this because I loved the movie when it came out and just enjoyed the premise of literal nobodies just dressing up to fight crime. Next thing you know, all these "real life superheros" and groups started popping up and I had legitimately thought about dressing when I was a teenager and doing the less violent community outreach stuff, never did but sometimes the thought still crosses my mind. All of these people across the US that popped up around the same time were definitely inspired by the movie, not the other way around. TL,DR: you've got it backwards, Kickass inspired specifically these people around that time lol. Look it up, you'll see very quickly its true .

As corny as this will sound, A million people can ridicule me, cops can lie about things, but I don't hear any of that... if I'm making sure even 1 person is safe, that's all that matters.

Anyone dressing up as Batman to stop actual crime is missing one key thing that works for Batman and why he works stopping the criminal underworld... He is literally a Ninja and rarely caught on camera to the point most people don't even believe he exists or is an urban legend. Many even believe he is a made up by the Gotham City Police to keep criminals in check. Hard to be a urban legend and successful vigilante when your posing for the cameras and have the fighting skills of a trick-or-treater. TDK even pointed this out when the Joker kidnapped and tortured one fat Batman wannabe and later left his corpse hanging on a building. Unless you have actual Superpowers and fancy gadgets, your just a moving target.

I've met Phoenix Jones on two occasions. Once while working part time as a bouncer and he happened to be on patrol. The second time I met him is when he was training at the same MMA gym. He actually held the mitts for me once and I wondered how he cut weight to get to 155 Lbs. for a fight. He was a big dude. But his head was always elsewhere.

@@alnu8355 Probably yeah, we had this one guy in our country, well he didn't go for the vigilante mantle, but more like enraged father...He went on an all out war against the mob ..Managed to take out some of the leaders, that were his targets...but that's it...the guy vanished, and after a couple of years it was announced, that they found his corpse...
