The healthy skin lab one angie loved looks really similar in formulation to the Drmtlgy physical tinted sunscreen, which is much cheaper. They probably have the same manufacturer.

It does look like that one does not contain boosters in it and so I am interested in that one (especially since I think the Healthy Skin One is now out of stock everywhere after Angie's recommendation). Have you tried this one yet? www.drmtlgy.com/products/physical-tinted-moisturizer-spf44

Thank you so, so much for this update! I very much enjoy the RMS glowy sunscreen. I have not tried it with foundation yet but I just wear it as my foundation and add my bronzer, blush, and powder or whatever I’m wearing that day. You just reminded me that I need to try it with foundation and see what it does on top of foundation as a refresher.😊 I’m one of those people that doesn’t use a full quarter teaspoon, and that’s probably why I like it better than Angie seemed to. Thanks for that information about why a quarter teaspoon is recommended. I don’t think my face has as much surface area as a man’s, either! I definitely need to be wearing my hat! My excuse isthat it makes me so hot, but I wear a helmet when I ride my horse, so I should be used to my head being hot! 😂

That is one of the many reasons that I like the Sunday Afternoons hats, because they offer really good sun protection but also have really good ventilation. I do notice a difference when I wear the hats from other companies that don't have that much ventilation. Thanks for sharing your report about the RMS sunscreen. ❤

@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews this discussion of the proper amount of sunscreen to use sparked me to try to find out how much I should be using exactly. Is my face about half the size of the average man’s used in the studies? Anyway, you probably already know this, but if you haven’t checked out lab muffin’s KZfaq channel, she has a recent video on sunscreen myths busted. Also, I wanted to add regarding that RMS glowy sunscreen. I have very, very dry skin, so maybe that’s why it works well for me. I am not sure what skin type Angie has. But maybe that’s a difference.

@@jjjjk1241 I recall Angie saying she had oilier skin when she was younger and that it still was not very dry. But I think her main issue with the RMS product was how shimmery it was, when she applied a whole 1/4 teaspoon to her face. It did look really shimmery in the video footage too!

@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews OK, gotcha. Yes, I agree, it did look very shimmery the way she applied it. It doesn’t look that way on me at all! I know I’m not using a quarter teaspoon, but I do feel that I’m using plenty. Well, everybody is different! I was watching some of lab muffins videos and there’s one where she actually measures her face using graph paper, if I’m understanding correctly. I didn’t get to that one yet, but I will watch it and I’m sure lab muffin explains how much sunscreen is needed for a smaller face. Then I will start measuring and making sure I’m getting enough.

@@jjjjk1241 What I kind of have started to conclude after spending a lot of time reading about these issues is that while sunscreen may provide benefits in terms of providing some protection of the face from the sun, no reasonable amount of sunscreen is ever going to be "enough" in terms of providing as much protection as we would want to have. And also, the more the better, meaning that no matter how much someone is putting on, more would always be beneficial (unless a ridiculously uncomfortable amount is already being used). And finally, that regardless of how much sunscreen you are or aren't using on your face, a really good hat is always going to be worth wearing. And that limiting the amount of time spent in unshaded sunlight always is going to be a good idea. And that while it was interesting to me to consider whether 1/4 teaspoon may be more than 2mg per square centimeter on my small face, in the end if probably would be very beneficial to use every day as much as Angie is using if I thought my skin could handle it (which I actually don't - my skin would be a mess if I did that regardless of which sunscreen I used). All of which is a little frustrating, no doubt!

SPF is not exponential, it's actually been demonstrated to be more linear in vivo. The theory was that it's exponential. Also, SPF is an indication of UV permitted, not how long it takes to burn. Labmuffin has a lot of videos about spf :) I second the Naked Sundays collagen glow, I feel like you would like it. It can be a bit ashy on medium and deeper skintones though. I am so curious about the stream2sea you mentioned in your previous video. I think Angie was meh on it, but I like that the brand publishes the absorption curve for their zinc (that they manufacture themselves it seems). However, I find it odd that the founder/brand claims you need only a dab of the product and that really turns me off... The All Good tinted mineral sunscreen and Alastin hydratint are good for medium warm/olive skin.

At about 27:00 in this Lion Pose video, I show the abstracts for two different in vivo studies that suggest an exponential relationship between amount of sunscreen usage and SPF actually obtained. While it is possible that those studies were not accurate or that in some circumstances the relationship is something other than exponential, it nonetheless does seem to be the case that there is some actual evidence that this is the relationship and that the idea that this is the relationship is not just based on a theory. I haven't read everything that Lab Muffin has written or watched every video that she has made, and I don't think that KZfaq search is giving me a complete rundown of everything she said in every video. But I did find this article from 2016 on the topic. labmuffin.com/spf-changes-how-much-sunscreen-use/ In it, she references this journal article, which reports that 1) in this one study, the relationship seemed to be linear and. 2) sunscreens with SPF70 or SPF100 provided substantial protection even when used at the levels that consumers typically apply them. www.jaad.org/article/S0190-9622(12)00260-5/abstract I personally have a problem with thinking that these kinds of high-SPF sunscreens are a solution though, even if the relationship is linear and even if those products protect people from burning as much when used in small amounts, because 1). high SPF sunscreens seem to invariably consist mostly of chemical sunscreens offering primarily UVB protection (and very little or no protection against the UVA1 that is of the most concern to me) and. 2) I cannot use chemical sunscreens anyway because they irritate my skin. So while it certainly is worth noting that the exact relationship between sunscreen amount and SPF achieved may vary according to circumstances and may be yet to be conclusively determined, I do feel that it is an appropriate takeaway here that it may be very difficult to get adequate sun protection (especially against UVA1) through any sort of reasonable use of sunscreen and that relying on other more traditional means of sun protection (such as staying out of bright direct sunlight and using protective clothing) may be essential for those who are truly concerned about UV exposure. The avoidance of substances like retinol that increase the skin's susceptibility to UV also may be a strategy worth considering, in my opinion. I've read repeatedly that SPF values are determined by exposing people to UV light and then comparing how long it takes sections of the skin that have been treated with the sunscreen to burn compared to untreated section. In fact, just yesterday I was listening to a new sunscreen video by Lab Muffin and she brought that up, stating that this is usually done in a lab with UV that is much more intense than you would get from the sun so that the testing can be completed in an expeditious way. But I certainly do not want to suggest that Lab Muffin is a source that I would trust on any of this without double-checking on everything that she says. I haven't found her to be factually inaccurate, but she does have such a strongly skewed viewpoint (and one that virtually always seems to be consistent with opinions that would seem to be beneficial to the sunscreen industry) that it seems especially important to confirm her assertions and opinions by taking a look at the original papers that her statements are said to be based on. I personally would do that sort of double-checking before believing assertions made by any source, regardless of how credible they seemed. I do know that it is fashionable these days to rely on source credibility as the only metric for whether to accept statements related to scientific conclusions, but I personally believe that to be a very dangerous development and would prefer that people not be trusting the so-called "experts" that much since an awfully lot of them do seem to have hidden conflicts of interest or in any case are not infallible. Science is rarely that clear-cut and conclusions made by intelligent and knowledgeable and sincere people can vary tremendously! But if you can point me to credible sources that state that SPF levels on products are not determined in the way that I suggested in my video, I would really appreciate that! With regard to Stream2Sea, I was under the impression that most people believe that mineral sunscreens reflect UV light rather than absorbing it. Is Stream2Sea in disagreement with that? I am not finding what you are referencing on their website. I do recall Lab Muffin suggesting that mineral sunscreens absorb UV light, and I do think that opinion was based on some research, but I was not of the impression that that is a generally accepted idea among most knowledgeable people and so the idea that Stream2Sea might be espousing it would be interesting to me. Thanks much for the suggestions regarding sunscreens. I will look into trying those soon. ❤

I used to watch Angie a lot but now no more. She banned my comments when I suggested a dupe for her brush that was out of stock. This is beauty community to share and provide thoughts. I feel it's strange that she deleted my comments. She offers her opinions on sephora sale every year and me saying to buy sephora brush was banned. So now sephora brushes are bad because she created her own. If she creates her own sunscreen will all sunscreens be bad?

In general I don't think that it is my goal in being on KZfaq to pass judgment one way or another on other content creators or on people running beauty brands or on any other individuals. I'm just trying to find good makeup and skincare products that work for me and for other women who have mature and sensitive skin. That is enough of a challenge in and of itself, without focusing on anything else. So I would rather stick to that here, in terms of the discussions in this space. Thanks to everyone for your understanding with regard to that ❤
