I never understand why some vets charge tens of thousands of dollars while others will charge a couple hundred. The same happened to me with my baby girl, she needed emergency exploratory surgery (because she had an obstruction in her digestive track from eating something she shouldn’t have) the first place I took her to wanted $10,000 up front and they made it very clear that there would be additional costs! I’m a broke college student and that’s just not at all possible for me. After calling around to a bunch of vets in the area I found one that would operate for 3000 and offered a payment plan for me. If it wasn’t for them my baby wouldn’t be here today. Thank you to the vets out there that charge the bare minimum!

Yes!!! I have a couple rats (don’t judge, they’re just XL hamsters) and one of them has to have her teeth trimmed every few weeks. I was going to a place that was charging me $100 a trim before I found out that another vet would do the same thing for $30! I have never looked back lol

I think how much you have to pay is caused to what the target of the Vet is. Some have the target to earn so much money they can and the other realy want to help the pets, like Dr. Jeff.

I get why they need to charge more for anything surgical, but $10,000 is ridiculous. Charging $3,000 makes sense, as they have to cover the cost of anesthesia, imaging, surgical instruments (some of which cannot be used more than once), the vet/vet tech, and boarding. I’m glad you were able to find a clinic that was willing to work with you.

Victoria Tabone the vets charge so much money because they have to pay their stuff their rent electric bill and all the equipment the insurance and taxes. The vets have no choice but charger so much money for our animals. If it wasn't for them we couldn't afford to have animals. Back in the 1800 people that had a pets would have to put their pet down themselves there wasn't an vets

Dr Jeff is amazing! He saves limbs that other vets wouldn't even attempt to save. All I can say is he is darned good at his job. Dr Petra is also pretty amazing!

This exact situation happened to me with my 4 year old cat my mom ran him over in our driveway and we were 6 hours away we had to mostly deal with everything over the phone but at first our regular clinic was very rude and wouldn't except that I was willing to have his leg fixed. He had 2 breaks on the same bone that this dog broke, there is only 1 specialized vet in my province in canada and when I brought him they said his break couldn't have been more perfect to fix he has a plate now holding his leg together and it's like he never even broke it what upsets me most is the original vet assuming I wouldn't have the money or means to save his leg because I'm a young person

$18,000 and lose his leg or $800 and keep his leg with Dr. Jeff. Tell me these vets don't charge whatever they feel like charging us. And they all should be ashamed of themselves!

Some doctors will quote some ridiculous amount because they don’t really want to do the surgery, to discourage the case. Happens to people too! Some doctors only want to be a concierge doctor, seeing only the elite in society . The patients pays a monthly retainer. They also get to see the doctor by walking in and declare they are a “concierge” patient .

@@QuiltLady I had a really good doctor that left to be a concierge doctor. It turned out the hospital had been bought by a big corporation and she didn't want to deal with them. Now it's a different doctor every time, it takes half an hour on hold for someone to answer the phone, and they're being sued for letting google and facebook see our private medical information.

I was shocked to hear the first vet wanted to remove Moose's leg and charge such a high cost! Well done to everyone who helped care for Moose and to see him again at the end was a real pleasure. We have a German Shepherd and have insurance just in case he has an accident or falls ill.

Seat belts for dogs have been available for decades. When I had dogs they were always belted in. I feel bad for dog and family. Hopefully they will put doggie seatbelts in their vehicles.

Someone commented today on my dog being seat belted, like it was a weird thing. She said how fancy it was. To me it's just normal. I never went anywhere without buckling my kids; why not the dog? Common sense!

$18,000 for an amputation, I suspect that the owners misheard or perhaps misspoke, that's understandable as they were obviously distressed about their dog. Fortunately it worked out in the end and Dr Jeff was able to mend the leg.
