I have lived in Columbus 1998 and it is the best place to live

In January, I moved to Columbus from the South (where everyone is moving to) and the main reasons are (1) Columbus is cheaper; (2) I was able to find a career job in my field; and (3) I know a lot of people complain about the weather, but being someone who grew up in the South but never could tolerate heat well, this weather is quite pleasant. Even in the middle of the summer, I don’t feel as though I’m about to spontaneously combust when I open the door to go outside. I’ll save my comment on the winter until I see a couple full winters to get a gauge on how Central Ohio winters really are. I did move here in January and got a taste of winter, but it wasn’t anything like people warned me about Ohio winters (I still think they were referring moreso to Cleveland winters-which relatives to this day still think I moved to Cleveland, not Columbus, but that’s another story). So far, I love this city. Fewer potholes than the city I moved from, the tap water is actually clear (not brown or green) and doesn’t leave you feeling slimy when you get out of the shower, and healthcare is very accessible.

We moved from North New Jersey. It’s a 40% cost of living difference. With the Intel Foundry coming to Central Ohio the area will explode. We raised our Son from Kindergarten through Senior year at OSU. He was able to attend the Olentangy school district so the educational opportunities are better (top 2%) in the nation. O.H.

Lived in Columbus once... never again. Median home price is low because rampant crime in the city... that's the elephant in the room that he isn't mentioning...

We would love to know more about the medwaiver for children with severe developmental disabilities, is it really 4-8m, with family members as paid providers? Florida now has a 13 year waitlist and are denying this who qualify for that waitlist, children are aging out without services. There appears to be ABA and even alt ed for autistic children and up, it would be interesting to hear more about that sector, there are a lot of us native Floridians looking outside of FL as prices soar and services are dropping.

More info about living in and around the OSU Wexner Medical Center. This is a bit personal (my son will be moving to Columbus this summer for fellowship training), but it may help others as I assume many healthcare professionals are training at OSU. These professionals don't want to be in the middle of the OSU student population, but want to be close to the medical center. What is it like to live/work in that area?

Good to hear. My husband works for BD medical and Utah is too expensive for us and I'm looking in all of the states where BD is and weighing the pros and cons... Utah doesn't have a lot of mother nature so moving anywhere else makes me edgy 😂 but it has to be done.

I have lived all over the USA and places like Dublin, The Polaris Mall Area (great shopping), Worthington (great parks!), Westerville (Lots of offices and services, quiet, near Africa and Maxtown Road are amazing!), and Lewis Center are unmatched outside of maybe somewhere like Burke, VA where you can expect to throw down 800k for a small single-family home. Another consideration is Canal Winchester if you want somewhere cheap, and safe, but not in the middle of nowhere. It has all the basic amenities, and the best Thai Food outside of Thailand (Bangkok Grocery) great Chinese too (China House). Near Dublin there is also one of the only Japanese markets in the Midwest which always blows people's mind's when I show them because it's not a common amenity in the Midwest, or even the east coast for that matter. You can find a lot of "Chinatowns" but not a lot of strictly Japanese markets. I think if more people knew about these places people would be stampeding to Ohio when you see how affordable it is. Just avoid North Linden, South Linden, or anywhere that is rated below a B on crime at areavibes website. These areas are on par with the bad areas in downtown Philly, don't risk it, especially if you have a family. AWFUL road infrastructure in downtown, the on and off ramps are a death trap. Also, install a water softener if you decide to buy a house, I wish someone had told me that. Hope that info helps someone. Great Channel!
