Today I will be reviewing this set of Shinhan Professional Watercolour paints in a 24 tube set. They also came with some watercolour paper and brushes, as a bundle. I swatched all of the colours and did some paintings, both on cellulose and cotton watercolour paper. Shinhan is a company that is based in Korea.
Note that while these say Professional, they are NOT the top of the line artist grade paints. Shinhan SWC or PWC watercolors are the highest grade, and are Premium, not Professional.
Professional are the more student grade paints, and these are the ones I have today. I plan on finding the Premium ones to review at a later time.
I got my bundle in a local Melbourne store, Zetta Florence, but I also found the paint tubes on Amazon (affiliate links included).

Becky your doing a fantastic job at filming these amazing video's while looking after your father so thank you for that, and I hope he's getting better each day, I love doing silhouette paintings when I can't think of anything to draw or I want something quick and easy to do I have tons of them hahaha and that's my fave out of all of your artworks, they are so beautiful and simple, recently done a windmill one with a little fence, a lovely sunset background, they are such a pleasure to paint! I really enjoyed this video and the Shinhan paints are stunningly bright! :D

@@BeckyTregear well, after reading your comment I snagged the 32 15ml tube set for $82 on amazon. I saw the 24 set fir $65 on eBay as well so you might try there. Maybe buying it from America will be cheaper. I tried a tube (it was the only color they had as they were clearencing them) from Jerry's and it was really nice quality.

Bummer that you didn't get the paints you actually wanted, but still always fun to try new paints! Love that you showed the difference between the cotton and cellulose paper. I had a few students show up yesterday in my Intermediate class with really bad-quality cellulose paper and they did struggle with their artwork. They are buying cotton paper before next week... 😁

It makes such a huge difference, and I think a lot of people give up with watercolours because shoddy paper just makes the whole exercise a misery. Hopefully your students will notice a big difference next week!

I quite like the "Streakyness" of your fish painting, it kinda makes it look like ripples in the water. I too bought this WC set years ago when first starting my watercolor journey thinking that it was professional as they claimed just to find out as you did. I'm sure we are not the only ones fooled by this marketing. If you are interested in the original quin gold pigment I bought a pan from The Prodigal Son's Artists Pigments along with some other very rare pigment paints that you can no longer find on the market. Search for them on You Tube and you will find a number of videos on them. I love your videos! I hope that your dad's recovery is quick and as pain free as possible. Thank you for being a great daughter!! ❤️ Pat

Wow that Bordeaux color is awesome, however, I'd be very skeptical of the idea that it is lightfast? Cool reds are never that lightfast.... in watercolor. I know PV3 and rhodomine are not lightfast right off the top of my head, because I had a paint from long ago that had them. Especially with all those unusual pigments, I would test them before using them for display work! Gorgeous for sketchbook though!
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't consider it to be lightfast without doing my own test of hanging it in the sun for a few months. Bordeaux colours usually fade pretty quickly, as you say. It's super pretty though! 💜

It’s interesting to see the difference between more student and artist quality paints! It’s confusing to me because some brands just have student and professional grade, with the student being not so good while other student quality actually are artist grade? Ahhhh! Cellulose paper is rough.I already struggled enough with watercolor when I first started getting into it and cotton paper made things much easier😂 my favorite painting of the bunch was the fish btw🐠 so summery (not your current season, I know, but still😄)

Love how you are able to create pretty paintings even on terrible paper. I would like to see the difference to their professional paint. I got some of their PASS paints (hybrid between watercolour and gouache). I saw them somewhere on KZfaq and got inspired. Well, I never use them. I use watercolours or gouache but never these paints. But the funny thing is that I have the same problem with the prussian blue. It didn't dry in the pan and has a sticky consistancy and looks shiny. I hate it.

Such a fantastic video, super fun! If you are interested in the premium range Dr Oto Kano swatches and reviews the entire range on her channel. Also unfortunately all the pigments in this video that you hadnt heard of before (except the PBr25) are poor to fugitive in lightfastness- shinhan is actually known for using nonlightfast pigments even in the PWC line...but with that said the paints are still beautiful and fun to use in sketchbooks; especially some of those fugitive reds. PR48s and PR63s are some of my fav fugitive reds- so pretty. Anyway great video! So much fun. Thanks for sharing and much love💜

Noo! Just nipped into Jackson's to look for the Bordeaux colour in PWC. It's not listed. It seems to be a fairly rare pigment in watercolours. The only PR63:1 paints I could find in a 15 minute search were Renesans Extra Fine - Mineral Violet, Arrtx Gouache - Deep Red, Rosa Studio (Student paint, in a mixed pigment colour) - Madder. There is usually a link between pigments made for industry and for art, because they're made by the same manufacturers. That's how new pigments appear sometimes, and others - like real Quinachridone Gold - fade away (I think Quin Gold went because it wasn't worth the manufacturer's time and expense to make it just for artists, and industrial demand had disappeared.
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 2 жыл бұрын

I used my phone because it is easier to mount it facing down onto the desk. I record my general video just out of the regular camera app, and for the time lapse art I use an app called Framelapse, because it lets me lock the light exposure and focus point. Then I transfer all my files to my PC or laptop and edit them in a program called Davinci Resolve. Much easier to edit out of phone, in my opinion! Oh, and I also have a separate phone for making my videos. 🙂

@@MrsBarnabas Hi MrsBarnabas! Actually, I comment on many videos. I believe I have added two other comment to this video. One is about the lightfastness of PR48 and other pigments and the other comment is about the availability of PBr25. Regarding your enquiry about being the first to comment: I do not use my computer to watch KZfaq videos, I use my tablet. It’s usually right next to me so whenever I get a notification about a new video I drop whatever it is that I am doing and comment “Fisrt!” 😂. I then watch the video later on when I have the time. It is most effective with art videos since the art community is very small on KZfaq. With other videos I already find several comments even if I open the video the instant I get notified about it. I am not sure how that is. But I am working on improving in that area 😂 But I must confess, I 💗 the idea of having KZfaq open all day on my computer waiting for new videos; I should give it a go one day 🤣
