Rebuilding a Land Rover Series 2 Front Axle Swivel Housing and Steering Joint (Part 2?) Restoration

In this video, I fit the front axle to my Land Rover Series 2, I also fit the chrome swivels and set up the pre load on the steering swivel pins. I take the viewer through the process showing out takes and failures along the way in the hope the viewer finds this useful. I use my micrometer to measure the shims and a spring gauge to measure the preload on the swivel houseing.

George, great videos and very helpful to me as I am at the stage of dismantling the axle on my '62 Military 2a. I haven't watched your entire back catalogue yet so maybe you mentioned this, but is yours a military (you mentioned military specs for the swivel tension which made me wonder)? Did you buy new swivels and housings given the condition when you dismantled them, or did you get them blasted? One of mine is good, the other totally manked up due to a seal failure somewhere, so just wondering what to do... Marc

Sorry for the late reply, mine is not military no. I didn't buy anything new, they were off an axle with leather gaiters so they hadn't been chipped by stones or anything.

very nice, thank you! but shouldn't the Steering Arm be on the bottom? at least at the the Series III it is. 🙃

Early series 1's/2's have the pendant steering arm setup, they changed it to the bottom late in the series 2a production

Yes series 3 is a different axle setup
