Pete Waterman is one of the most famous British record producers of the last few decades having strings with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman production team. These days Pete is more often associated with his steam railway enterprises but he is still very much involved in production. We met with Pete at his private studio in the North of the UK and although this is a single camera video we hope you will enjoy watching Pete take about his views and the future of music production.

What a refreshing change to have someone who's not only passionate what he does , but knows what he's talking about!! It doesn't matter if you like are dislike him , he's knows what he's talking about. So down to earth genuine person. Iv alot of respect for the man. He played such a big part of my youth and still today I enjoy his music and watching him with his other passion " trains".

Regardless of what you think of Pete Waterman. This man is a genius when it comes to creating hit singles. Absolute legend 👍

Dominant in the early and late 80s. Massive ....recall Rick Astley and Kylie Minouge. This is the chap that ruled the roost in PWL.

Always liked Pete, extremely credible and keeps it real. I know a few people dont like him but I imagine thats because he doesn't pull his punches, they'll appreciate that as they get older. As an amateur producer/former dj and record collector I can listen to him talk all day, so many cool stories

PW and his team have a well deserved place in 80s pop music history - no matter how contrived the production formula became, too soon unfortunately. Still we have to thank him for the mega hits and showcasing Rick Astley's talent, along with the dancefloor gems by Dead Or Alive; Hazell Dean & Mel & Kim etc etc ... Check out interviews with Trevor Horn here as well - a supreme talent.

Pete makes some valid points. Streaming as part of the charts is a joke. It’s the equivalent of someone buying a CD or downloading an album and then every time it gets played it gets counted towards the charts. No wonder the vinyl chart is so different to the main chart which is now stagnant and distortedly overrun by Ed Sheehan.

This guy epitomises someone who rose to fame but kept it real. As a bit of a geeky tech nerd (who grew up in the 80s), everything he says in this interview makes perfect sense. This interview should be shown to ALL GCSE music students.

The 3 guys from PWL are legends, the whole team in fact when you think about it, and yeah, pretty much spot on what Pete said, nothing's happened in music since Oasis in the UK, time for a change I'd say

A wonderfully refreshing interview. One thing above all to take from this is there is very limited revenue from modern songs as there are no long term publishing returns. As 90% of chart releases are sh*t and no one would want to cover them.

Pete waterman had nothing to do with the songwriting. Jeez I know way more abut songwriting than he ever did. He was great at creating the buzz and hysteria around the artist. If you asked Pete what a 7#9th chord was he wouldn't have a clue...lol

On the spot argument, Peter Waterman. You have to go with confidence(give public confidence), what Pet shop Boys, psb, is doing, has done. You May make a filming on undertow, into thin air, on Iceland/Other Places, up against it........, face like that, you may not, is about what Vision you have. Reading a Book is absolutely invigorating. Lars Larson alingsås sweden

SAW were good in the 80's you can't fault them . However when you hear some of the artistes sing LIVE it really is so out of tune ....completely off key .That shows you how clever the boys were technically because there was NO AUTO-TUNE back then .The nearest producer today who comes close to SAW style updated is Matt Pop from The Netherlands .Amazing productions & often new self-penned classics .

Pete is spot on, there is so much rubbish on the radio nowadays and that's why they aren't selling so cut the excuses. Pop music has sounded stagnant for over 25 years now, same tired, horrible sound and getting worse.

@anthonyquinn6009
@anthonyquinn6009 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed Ethereal. The analogy or comparison with modern-streaming and downloading to taping off the radio or watching 'Top Of The Pops' given by Waterman is false. What has not changed is that it is still national radio and TV and major record record backing that makes an artist or band successful.
