When I hear people mentioning how great the music in a game is, I have to think of an old interview with Yamaoka Akira (early 2000s; have a guess which game...) who said something like: It's not hard to compose music for a scene. The hard part is to decide, when to NOT add any music.

14:53 There's also The Coronet Brothers and their leader Jason. Jason and the family as a whole I guess would be the...Quintenary Antagonists?(Gripyhon is the main antagonist, Diego is secondary, Colonel Daren is tertiary, and Mr. Kelly is Quadrenary). You fight 3 of them in the first half of the third to last level, 7 of them in the 3 minute door defend section, and the last 3 in the second to last level ending with the dual with Jason. ANYONE who's beaten the game on Very Hard or Red Wood Revolver difficulty knows the terror of the Cornonet Brothers. The 3 minute 'Defend Jack' section of Siege is the hardest part of the entire Red dead series

I haven't finished this video yet, but I saw your comment and remembered that most of the music in Red Dead Revolver was taken from actual westerns. One of the songs is from a movie called "They Call me Trinity" and the opening scene with the song used in RDR is on KZfaq.

I was one of those that paid absolutely no attention to the soundtrack of videogames. I mean sure I'd lightly bop my head or get more into the game if a track hit home, but it never stuck with me how important it was until I played FFXIV. Now I can't not hear good sound design whether it be environmental or music in video games. The downside is it really grates on me now when it's not up to par, even if the game is good haha.

Another solid video. I remember watching a preview of this game on a Toonami segment and being pretty bummed I didn't own an Xbox or PS2. It's a crowded space but I really do believe you're carving out a place for yourself in the video-game review/essay/character study arena. Your deliberate attempts at humor land more often than not (although I could have gone without Pubesworth tbh) and your more subtle comedic inserts are very funny and showcase your personality very effectively. Good structure and pace despite the length and also it should be noted: good radio voice. Thanks for the content! Definitely gives me hope that I'll see some classics from my childhood that I really enjoyed get the kind of closure offered from one of these videos and I'm always looking forward to the next hero/villainpedia entry

Grea video and yes, this game also slipped under my radar back in the days, i never knew Red Dead Redemption had something of an older sibling and from the glory days of Xbox, too. If i had seen this game back then, maybe my taste in games would have drastically changed to Red Dead and i would be playing this game non stop today instead of that Elder Scrolls with the iPhone menu and Halo. Funny enough, what you say about the Music of a Game can also be said about Elder Scrolls and Halo, i mean Marty REALLY pressed his mark on Halo and I can't imagine an Elder Scrolls without Jeremy Soule's lovely music, i mean i am still listening to Morrowind's soundtrack today and get teary everytime, because of how i remember the time i had while playing this game over and over and over again. The Music of a game is as important as gameplay, graphics or the setting/story, it's not just one subcategory type of part of the game, the game's music is one of the core elements.

You actually convinced me to buy this game in 2022:P I pondered on buying this game back in the day after I fell in love with Red dead redemption. But as I got the understanding that Revolver was more its own stand alone thing, only sharing the same "universe" and a few hints and nods with RDR and wasn't a prequel of any sort I ended up not doing it. Now I really want to experience this charming hidden gem for myself. It might not be the greatest work of art in video game history. But this game seems really fun and interesting for what it is, with its spaghetti western campiness. So I ordered this game for PS2 on Ebay. I'm looking forward to play and experience it for myself:D

I have to admit, I really never liked this game when I was younger. The reason was because when I first bought this game, I was expecting a game similar to Neversoft's GUN which in my opinion, was the absolute best western video game of the 6th generation as it showed the game genre that the old west works best in, an open world adventure with plenty of oppurtinities for exploration. And I figured that with the Rockstar emblem on it, Red Dead Revolver would be like GTA on horseback. So when I found out that this game was almost entirely linear with a lot of difficult and frustrating levels, I really lost interest in playing it. But now as I learn more about Red Dead Revolver, the more I understand why it is the way it is. It was originally a Capcom game that was supposed to be the 3D equivalent to Sunset Riders but development was handed off to Rockstar partway through, which would explain its linear nature. But there were portions of the game, like in the town of Brimstone that were basically an ersatz open world where you had to trigger missions by talking to people, which I'm totally convinced was an addition from Rockstar, who pioneered the open world genre at the time.

I have *no idea* how you did it, but you basically said everything I've wanted to say about this game ever since I first played it when I was really young; in my opinion, this amazing hidden gem deserves far more recognition than it gets these days, especially given what its' successors would later do for the gaming industry as we know it today. Alongside Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Black, Halo: Combat Evolved and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, this was and still is one of my absolute favorite games from the 6th generation. (at least, out of the ones I had at the time) I forgot if it was my dad or my cousin that bought our OG Xbox many years before I got ahold of it, but either way, thanks y'all!

If you want to check out a (significantly more expensive secondhand, sadly) similar game that even includes some of the little suggestions you'd like to have seen in Revolver (like dress up!), check out the incredibly weird and fun Samurai Western. For better context; spaghetti westerns were filmed in Italy, using the Italian inland outdoors to simulate the American west. They were filmed en masse due to cheaper budgeting than Hollywood, thus Westerns were the 50-60’s equivalent of todays superhero media; everything, everywhere. Clint Eastwood is one of a handful of actors that started their career in Spaghetti Westerns. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is perhaps his most famous Spaghetti Western.

Remembered maybe, but it's place in the context of history is admittedly quite small. Plus the background stuff with Capcom, devs sleeping in closets, being sold to RS on the cheap; It doesn't exactly paint a picture of a game that anyone loved more so that it was a project in dire need of saving and that saving inspired the devs to take what they learned and apply it on a new project... or that RS (after the acquisition) was like "lol, just slap this on our open world formula and print money" as that was their MO at the time.

I remember playing this game a lot as a kid. Not because of how fun it was but because of how often my save for it was wiped. I had a memory card for my ps2 and don't know why only this game automatically wiped the save.

14:00 I mean, they all play different roles. Griff sold out the Harlows to save his own hide and for greed, Daren actually pulled the trigger and led the attack, and Diego was behind both of them. (But being a traitor is considered the worst sin so Griffon goes last)

I have vague memories of playing this when I was 6 or 7. I remember when Red dead redemption came out how pissed I got that no one ever played red dead revolver. I'm playing it now for the first time in 18 years and its astonishing how well its aged.
