13:38 - *“The thing is, Rimmer does care about Lister, or he wouldn't have been so much like ‘We need to help him.’ ”* Remember that the only reason why Holly is bothering to simulate Rimmer as a hologram is ostensibly to keep Lister sane. If Lister dies, there is no need for that to continue…

In the novel, when Lister is woken from statis, they actually have him get very depressed from loneliness before Holly decides to try to help by resurrecting Rimmer. I think from memory there's a line in a later story that references this, even though it's not shown on screen.

each castmember came from an entertainment background other than TV/Sitcom acting; Chris Barrie's an impressionist/voice actor, Craig Charles is a slam poet, Norman Lovett -- as you can probably guess by now -- is a stand-up comedian, and Danny John-Jules is a singer/dancer, among many other talents (like the juggling seen here). They bring those talents to the show, offsetting their relative TV inexperience (did you notice Craig Charles trying very hard not to corpse when Lister is unconscious?) and flesh out the characters in those unique ways. And now you know two beloved "catch phrases" for Red Dwarf fans; "Too slow, Chicken Marengo!" and "Oxygen's for losers!" Enjoy!

While listening to you two talk about Cat, my cat is doing what I call growl-whining. She thinks growling and hissing is normal communication. She'll hiss and growl while purring its weird. She'll want something but we can't understand what the hell it is so we do all the things until she stops.

Lister is interesting as a character. He is a slob and a simpleton, the lowest rank on the ship ( probably on a thousand ships ) and content to be that, but as the show continues he shows that he is much more than just that -- although the outer appearance continues. A good depiction of book by it's cover.

Nothing better than a Red Dwarf reaction video! This is a great episode, my favourite from series one I think!😄😄😄

thoroughly enjoying your trip through this series. coming back to this episode: 11:11 magnetic boots, not gravity. I think Charles and Ferguson do a pretty good job of making sure one foot always comes back down before the other comes up, outside of the "dramatic" slow motion bit where Lister grabs the rail with both hands before taking both his feet off the ship's surface. Maybe they slip up once or twice but the sequence has always been too entertaining for me to bother to check.

At school you could divide kids in the class into 2 categories, those who watched red dwarf and those who didn't, about 4 out of 20 odd. Easy mates

Also the only reason Rimmer is the active hologram is for Lister's "sanity", if Lister dies Rimmer will get switched off.

It's great to watch you gals reacting to Red Dwarf never having seen it before .It really is a British sci-fi fans classic and it brings back memories of watching for the first time . Cat is now alone after last week and features more . Some great moggy habits incorporated into the character .

Without Lister around, Holly would have no reason to keep Rimmer activated. They’d either activate Captain Hollister or save power.
