@@vincentking2552 From my meetings.. Craig - he's a real charmer. Super polite. Chris - well, what a guy. Danny - Frenetic and impatient but chatty and fun. Robert - The most Grown Up of the bunch, passionate. Hattie - She is a delight, as mad as a box of frogs. Norman - If you get his chatting about something he really enjoys you have his attention for hours. Chloe - May be the nicest of them all. At one con the photo OP completely broke down so she came round to chat to the line, she shook our hands, thanked us all for coming, apologised repeatedly for the problem, learned all our names (and remembered them later to say hi again) Had long chats with a few of us who sparked up conversations. And in my case remembered my name at the next con we were both at and called me over to say hi and get a selfie. Chloe deserves way more than some of the RD fandom give her. And her smile - In the books KK is said to have a smile that lights her face up like a pinball machine, It's Chloe to a Tee.

Chris Barrie is known for his impressions, not only of the other cast, which you will see him do periodically on the show, but also in general. Before (and while) he was on Red Dwarf, he did voices for a British satirical show called 'Spitting Image', which represented politicians and celebrities of the day as exaggerated, caricature-like puppets, where he did the voices of Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr, Princes Charles and Andrew, John Cleese and Michael Palin of Monty Python and Sean Connery among many others.

This is one of the best practical jokes I've ever seen pulled off in a sitcom! After all the silliness we've seen on the show, it's completely believable what Queeg says and that Holly is that faulty! I also love that with a live audience (who's been fooled as well) we get a proper response and explosion of laughter at the end! So, one more episode before Kryten joins, but this next one is SO WILD!!! It's a favorite!!

It's funny how likable he is even when his character is specifically written to be infuriating and selfish. When you understand how much of that seems to stem from trauma, conditioning, and social awkwardness he becomes much more sympathetic.

This was the second episode I was lucky enough to be in the studio audience for the recording of (see my comment on the Gals' Thanks for the Memory reaction for the first). Couple of things I remember from the recording. The Lister console explosion was pre-recorded and shown to us on monitors at that point in the show. The split Rimmer was done live, with Chris wearing bright blue trousers and a member of crew wearing Rimmer's trousers and his upper half in a bright blue body stocking. Yes, they did all the chroma-key effects with blue screen back then, rather than today's ubiquitous green screen.

Prior to doing Red Dwarf Chris Barrie did a stage act (comedy) DOING impressions. So, when it comes time for Rimmer to do "impressions" of Lister or other members, it is due to the fact that he has had a LONG time getting to work on not only their speech patterns, but their tone and their mannerisms as well..... making Rimmer the BEST one at impersonating other members, although occasionally Lister or Kryton do it to. Also, Cat ( Danny John Jules) is a professionally trained dancer. Lister ( Craig Charles) had a successful but short run as a comedian before the show. BUT, the reason his comedy work was short lived was due to being cast in Red Dwarf as an "Unknown comic". AFTER the success of Red Dwarf, it was impossible for him to get back "on the road doing stand up" because everywhere he went, he was seen as Lister and nobody really wanted to see him doing his own comedy routines, but variations of how Lister would do the routines.

Hi Gals! Yes Chris Barrie is a noted impressionist. He did a lot of the voices in satirical puppet show Spitting Image in the 80s. Also about 10 years ago, there was a stage show of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy in the UK with most of the original radio cast. Because Peter Jones who played 'The Book' died 30 years ago, they had a series of guests to read the book. In Manchester where I saw it, Danny John Jules read the book and also performed The Dish of the Day in full on Cat persona! HHGTTG meets Red Dwarf it shouldn't have worked, but it did!!!

Of course Queeg is the name of the hated captain whose crew depose him in The Caine Mutiny, but the line "This is mutiny Mr. [Officer's name], I'll see you hanged from the highest yardarm in [Name of home port] for this day's work!" is from Mutiny on the Bounty. Queeg was one of my favourite episodes. Chris Barrie (Rimmer) started out doing impressions. Chris Barrie also starred the lead role in the Brittas Empire where he takes smegness to a whole new level. Superbly written and superbly acted. Don't worry Kryten comes back. In later episodes so does the crew. The American who played Captain Hollister was truly brilliant. The cat universe motion picture had me creasing up. You have some superb episodes of Red Dwarf to come. 12 series and each one better than before. Another British comedy from 10 years earlier was The Goodies from the 1970s. The only British sitcom where they were asked to turn the laughter DOWN after a man in Kings Lynn died from a heart attack / brain seizure brought on by laughing continuously for 25 minutes solid. I had to slap my face to stop wetting myself. It is that funny.

Chris Barrie is a fantastic actor. Character wise Lister is the one we all favour cause he's decent while Rimmer is a smeghead but the show wouldn't be the same without him. Originally Alan Rickman was suppose to play Rimmer, but Barrie is the best choice. So glad you gals love this show.

Chris Barrie started out as an impressionist, Norman Lovett was a stand-up comedian, and Craig Charles was a poet. Only Danny John-Jules was an actor when the show was cast.

I first saw Norman Lovett on TV as a stand up comedian before Red Dwarf and I think most people in the UK had an idea of who he was before, same is true of Craig Charles and his poetry . Chris Barrie was the most well known before Red Dwarf, only Danny John-Jules was unknown as he was a dancer. Clare Grogan (Kochanski|) was probably the most famous as she had a lead role in the film Gregory's Girl and several pop chart hits in the UK top 40. Norman Lovett still does comedy and you'll find lots of him on KZfaq.

I remember when the 2005 revival series of Doctor Who came out and "Bad Wolf" ended on a cliffhanger, there was a fake IMDB leak that said Norman Lovett would play Davros in "The Parting of the Ways" (rather than the Dalek Emperor we got). That would have been something.

Chris Barrie was a voice impersonator before Red Dwarf started, on the satirical, political puppet show "Spitting Image". That bit in this episode was a flex

It's a shame that a lot of the boys in red dwarf aren't world famous. They were all big in the UK, Danny had a small role in Blade 2, and Chris probably got the most famous for being Lara crofts butler in Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider films. The other guys did okay, Craig went into the UK's version of battle bots (robot wars in the UK), and later went into a drama\soap opera Where as the guy that is going to play Kryten (if he comes back ;) got famous for the us version of junkyard challenge (called "scrap heap challenge" in the UK)

The explanation for what happened to Kryten is in the Star Wars style scrolling text. When you see it, you may want to pause the video because it scrolls by really fast.

Danny Jules wasn't just a voice of one of the Firey's in Labrynth, he was also one of the dancers/puppeteers for them as well. He also plays Hassan, one of the ally vampires in Blade 2.

Charles Augins voiced one of the Fireys in Labyrinth - and Danny John Jules (Cat) voiced two others. Charles Augins was also one of the two choreographers for Labyrinth - and Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher in ST:TNG) was the other.

It's not overly clear, but in the first episode for this series, at the end technically Kryten leaves the ship on a space motorbike type thing, playing more in to the rebel part of him by the end of the episode.... However, never give up hope and you may just be rewarded.

OK before even watching this episode of Galifrey Gals... I'm gonna say "Queeg" is my FAVORITE episode of Red Dwarf... I mean there are so many fantastic Red Dwarf episodes, but this one just has the best topper of all time ! As Danny John-Jules says in the commentary for this episode, Norman had 8 woofers in the bank at the end of this episode !

From what I can understand about the character of Kryten and his absence from the remainder of Series 2; at some point his guilt circuits overrode, and he was back to his old self albeit with a full body refit.

In the UK, Chris Barrie was really famous for being a commercial voice actor according to the Red Dwarf commentary. Not sure if he still does it or not. He also performed one of the Red Dwarf audiobooks using the impressions from what I understand.

My favourite TNG/Dwarf/Labyrinth fact is: Obviously Danny John-Jules is one of the Fieries (chilly downs) in Labyrinth, but Queeg here was ome of the two Labyrinth choreographers.. the other being Dr Beverly Crusher! It's all connected, like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff!

Chris Barrie facts too: He provided many, many voices for UK political satire puppet show Spitting Image back in the day! Also, after playing Lara's butler Hillary in the first Tomb Raider movie, Angelina Jolie liked him so much she held off the filming of the sequel until Chris' schedule was clear so he could be in it! 😊
