You do actually know what this song is about? It's about racism. Tom Cochrane wrote the song after noticing a new wave of Antisemitism in the late 70's. The "final solution" referred to in the song is what Hitler called his plan eliminate all the "undesirables" (initially, Jews, but later widen the scope to include homosexuals, gypsies, and the mentally and physically handicapped) from society. Wikipedia defines "lunatic fringe" as "a term used to characterize members of a political or social movement as extremists with eccentric or fanatical views.". WIth those thoughts in mind, you might want to rethink your "I'm one of the lunatic fringe" stance.
@richardt875 Жыл бұрын
@@Kohntarkosz Nah that's what he means. But, I would have never figured out that's what this song is About. I thought it was about people's inner maniac.
@donavonmacallister3101 Жыл бұрын
@@Kohntarkosz thats not true.
@Kohntarkosz Жыл бұрын
@@donavonmacallister3101 According to Wikipedia, it is. They quote an article on Tom Cochrane in a Canadian newspaper from 2002. "Guitarist Tom Cochrane wrote the song after becoming concerned about a resurgence of anti-Semitism in the 1970s, and was also inspired after reading a book about Raoul Wallenberg, who rescued Jews from The Holocaust during World War II."
@solopico5 ай бұрын
@@Kohntarkosz I believe you're 100% correct. There's an interview of him here on KZfaq where he talks about it. He doesn't define the antisemitism specifically.. just talks about "racism" in a general sense.. but it makes sense. FYI there's a Netflix series called Mindhunter about the FBI's behavioral reserach team (studies serial killers) that used this song very effectively.

Funny story, I grew up in the 80's and had always had vague memories of this awesome song, being an audiophile....i had hearing parts of this song all the damn time, trying to remember the band and song title... Then one night in my mid-20's , I had the pleasure of spending the night with a girlfriend... Turns out she has work in the morn and set her alarm for the butt crack of dawn, 5:30am. The alarm/radio went off at said time and in my sleep I heard that classic synth intro and boom, it was lunatic fringe... I jumped out of bed to listen to the dj say the band name and song title. Fortunately, he did. I went out and bought that cassette later that afternoon. Finally had it and another plus was I was invited later on to visit with my friend/girlfriend. Do a VHS horror movie marathon and chill, lol.
