My father and grandmothers tribe was the Yaqui of Sonora / Arizona. I dont have too many role models of Yaqui descent. So when I listened to Redbone & learned Pat & Loly Vegas were part Yaqui like me it gave me a unique sense of pride. I love the band & love how they represented us & other American Indians in confusing times.

Thank you for this video. I was around in the '70s and I remember the American Indian movement. When I was very young I had been told stories about my Grandfather who had been raised among First Nations People in a small logging town, now a ghost town, in north Central Ontario in the early 1900's. Even from a young age, I have supported the First Nations fight against abuse and cultural extinction.

My great great grandmother was Cherokee Indian. They were sold and exchanged sometimes. They still lived on Reservations and had to register. I love their music. When I was a kid people with American Indian ancestry were called Redbone. On both my parents side of the family there are what they call American Indian. My great grandmother would let her hair grow to her knees and cut it into ponytails and sell them to wig stores. Thanks for the informative video.
