Don’t give up bro. There’s obviously something going wrong with this tank. Could be your maintenance routine, could be your source water. Or, it could be the fact that you’re feeding a small tank with only 2 fish, twice a day. Honestly, doing a 2 week fluconazole treatment would completely rid the tank of the hair algae and a few berghia nudibranchs would rid the tank of aptasia. Less feeding, more maintenance and clean source water and you would be good. Sounds like you’ve made your decision to reset but, this tank is nicer than the old one! Good luck man!

You’ve gotta take the bad with the good very easy fix in my opinion, I’ve been there a few times - Take the corals out and give them to your dad . Turn the lights off all together. Give it a two weeks and the algae will be dead. It’s because although your tests may be showing zero. It’s because it’s stored in the algae and rock. Marco rock leaches phosphates and nitrates for a good while. It seems like it’s never ending. Once the algae is dead add a piece of live rock to add some stability.

Don’t give it up mate, I’m in the same boat as you at the moment. It’s a bit of a confidence beater when looking at it, but being honest with mine, I was distracted and it shows in the tanks. I have the Fluval 13.5, I loved your tank! And followed it all and still do! Don’t lose heart, you have it and part of the reefers/tanks journey! I look forward to your next videos mate! You got this. Defo look forward to the Fluval. I got a 200l tank which I haven’t started yet but will defo be keeping the Fluval!

This is easily fixable, You need to stop fuelling the algae, lights off, feed the bare minimum... It's times like these you need to stick with it Corey.

I do agree on shutting this tank down, better to start again with an empty tank if you have that much aptasia and nothing really in there. I've seen your videos before and your biggest mistake corey was changing the rockscsape in that old juwel tank.. before you did it was just starting to mature and you put the new dry rock scape in and absolutely reset it to zero, you then get all the new tank issues dino, algaes etc. It takes about two-three years to get true mature live rock.. it's like gold. I've kept mine and reused it in my last three tanks, you can't keep choping and changing stuff without paying the price, that's my bit of advice for you anyway good luck

Agree with those saying starting from 0 your just going to go through the same issues. Rock and tanks need time to mature. Grab some nudis and file fish and the aptasia will be gone. Grab some more clean up crew and lawnmower blenny for the algae

Hi man nice to see you back again just wanted to say reefing is a challenge,as the guys are saying dont give up setting up new Tank is not the solution try and fix this one first, seriously good water source clean up crews (perpermint shrimp algae blenny crabs etc) chemical should be last.you will come out on top

Use this as a learning process, Aphasia and algae grow to these proportions if YOU provide the food and fuel for them, Dimm the lights, Use a decent test kit and post your nitrate and phosphate levels so people can help, stop over feeding and use this to provide a good lesson for others on how to beat these issues, Start with the basics, What's your water like, Is the RO water ok etc and go from there, An urchin will get through the algae and try an aphasia eating nudibranch but even if you can't save this tank try to learn before you do the same in a different tank. Good luck

Don't despair or give up. Last year I had a similar problems with my 13.5 size tank. I over came the problem by feeding my 2 clowns every other day...
@TofuInc2 жыл бұрын
That's not even that bad. Get rid of one of those lights, turn the other way down. Get a few more peppermint shrimp to get those Aiptasia under control. Plenty of CUC or fish out there that will help with the algae. It will also clear up on it's own once the light is reduced and the nutrients are kept low. I have one of those Fluval Evo's, they are great tanks. Mine still has the lid and stock light. LPS and softies thrive in it. Too much light on those small tanks cause a lot of issues.

I remember when you started with the evo, it inspired me to get one myself haha. However I think it's too small now, don't you think you'll be wishing you got a bigger tank? Also have you tried the berghia nudibranch for the aiptasia?

Its probably the "feeding twice a day" thats contriubting to your issues. Ive got 2 fish in my tank and i feed like every second or third day.

Why not just get like 5 peppermint shrimp to shred the aiptasia and a couple emerald crabs to buffet on the hair algae

Not having the luck dude!! Don’t give up tho , me personally would strip clean the whole system down with white vinegar ( Get a couple off 5L bottles) dump it all in - water it down a tad a leave for few days in the garden. Give everything a good through clean and a well dam good rinse down. This should kill any remaining bacteria and I’ve found this to be effective and work with start up/ second hand buy tanks, (done this a few times on small tanks myself) and then figure out a totally different approach next time round ie dead rock , live rock, a seed rock piece, different bacteria, and live sand and leave it for with lights off for few months or longer to do its thing ie cycle - you know this already keep it simple and do the tests for that time. If you put a fish in afterwards feed lightly once every other day have yourself a plan and goal and try to achieve it. Get the EVO back out you had the most successful time with that one (Love the EVO 13.5) all the best fella 👍 or just add a bunch off file fish lol 😆

I went though multiple tank shutdowns but that algae if from the rock being brand new rock that hasn’t been established. In order to have a tank properly running, you restart everything, clean the aquarium, add new sand and rocks that are already established from a mature tank. Then you should be fine
@WilliamJohnson-me4sh2 жыл бұрын
I think you need to try starting a tank with established live rock from another tank, that made all the difference for me.
@darrenshore58532 жыл бұрын
There is something wrong with your water quality. Check your source water, hair algae means excess Po4 and NO3s and if your other tank has same issues it has to be the water your using along with inadequate filtration. Don't close it down, learn from it, closing it is the easy option
@mitian2 жыл бұрын
Corey I like your videos and your dad's also, I am a fan, but I think you keep quitting every time you run into complications why? everyone does, come on, fix and solve the problem, you keep going through tank after tank, you know that is the beauty of this hobby you fall and get up and keep going... just a thought. I hope you don't take it the wrong side... I will keep watching....

Just remember you had what you considered “success” with the Evo with relatively basic stock equipment. You’ve gone bells and whistles with your Red Sea lights and never had “success” since. Maybe research the lights and the power they are giving off. Could well be one of the issues.
@gm83142 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you haven’t stripped it down yet. Maybe get some advice off the old man. I think you’ll be way better off if you can work through the issue. So easy to quit and start again. Algae is a life form mind. You are supporting life. You just got to work out how to keep it in check.

As you have nothing in the tank you could try nudibranch. I had around 300 aiptasia in my system, bought 7 nudis and now I'm aiptasia free. It took them 3 months in a 250 ltr system. Regarding the tank once you have success with a sump I honestly don't think you'll look back. Try starting again, leave the lights off for 4 weeks then you good to go 💪

What’s the point in starting a new tank….. AGAIN!! tank is still relatively new. Not sure how you can keep doing videos portraying to be informative when you pack it in when it gets a little tough. Could two powerful lights on a small tank be your issue? Too much nutrients plus too much light… algae!!??!! You should stick it out and gain the knowledge that you seem to be lacking to expand your understanding of the hobby.
