Reef Tank Success with Issues

While the coral are getting great growth and coloration the tank is going through a list of issues. My main concern is keeping the water parameters as stable as possible while managing a set of this issues. Right now I am focusing on exterminating euphylia eating flatworms and eliminating bubble algae without rearranging rock work or introducing any animals to eat them.

I had a Boat load off Bubble algea. Covered the rocks, powerheads etc. I used a product called 'vibrant' once a week and boom, no more bubble algea (may have to use slighly more than manufacture recommended... Worked Super well and i had changed nothing else in my tank.. Only thing you Must do is watch your nutrients as it can lower nutrients and even out compete your chaeto etc if you have any. So if fluconazole doesent work look into virbant. (BRS did a video on it recently). Ur tank is looking awsome! Those torches are amazing.

The vibrant was formulated to deal with bubble and other algae specifically. The fluconazole was not - its pill that kills fungal infection that happens to kill bryopsis and we learned that by overdosing we can kill green hair and other algae. It - I would use the right tool for the right job. Good luck and please do an update and let us know what happened. If it did work, that's another reefer and more evidence that fluconazole can work for bubble algae too.
@MoeReefs

Dosed the x3 fluconazol 2 days ago and all coral and fish are perfectly fine. The bubble algae is already turning slightly white so it is looking promising. I would not have done it if I did not fully trust the person that told me about it as it does sound like it would be a lot of meds but so far so good.

Those orange acans seem to be super tasty to any fish or inverts that eat any bubble algae or aptaisia. Was thinking about it but too much invested in the coral to do any more animals that have a higher potential of eating coral.

I try not to use any chemicals unless all else fails but had a slight bubble algae issue recently and manually removed it, took quite a while to do as you got to try not to pop any or it will spread but just used a scalpel while syphoning into a filter sock. Might be worth trying these methods firsts before adding chemicals. Good luck 👍

@Reefgrrl
@Reefgrrl 4 жыл бұрын
Hydrogen peroxide will kill bubble algae so if you have any rocks - or powerheads 😳 - with it on them, and they can be removed from the tank, a dip in 3% hydrogen peroxide will kill the bubble algae. Certain corals can tolerate it as well, for no more than 2 minutes. Tank is looking awesome! 👍🏻

I have a no rock removal policy lol. Every time int he past when I remove rock I feel I start a mini cycle or stunt growth so it is absolutely a last resort option to me. Going to do another update real soon so I calm down the vibrant police haha.

Bubble algae is easy to remove while working on the nutrients it's using. Take the siphoning tube off your WC hose and simply suck it up while doing WC's. I've had luck eradicating it in that manner w/o even addressing excess nutrients.

Hi thanks for sharing. Lovely corals my man. Would you kindly share you waters parameters with me. Like phosphate, nitrate etc and how you manage them? I was also thinking of setting my reefer 250 up bare bottom or maybe with little sand for the wrasse. What are you thoughts on little to no sand? Thanks
@MoeReefs
@MoeReefs 4 жыл бұрын
I am also interested in bare bottom. One day when I set up another tank I will most likely do it. I am thinking putting a tray of sand somewhere in the back corner for the sand sleeping wrasses but not sure how that would work with more than one of those types of wrasse. Possibly have multiple sand trays tucked away. Also if I go that route I want to cover the bottom of the tank in white vinyl so the light bounces back as it does with sand.

The only animal I know and have experienced in eliminating bubble algae in my 120 gallon tank is a juvenile Vlamingi tang . It was an accidental discovery for me , I had my tank infested with bubble algae everywhere and I thought of giving up . My colleague who started a small tank gave up due to cost and without warning appeared at my door with this fish in a bucket . I thought nothing about it and added this fish into the tank . Now , I personally did not want to keep any type of tang in my tank but since I thought of giving up , might be able to sell or give away this fish . But 3 days in , I noticed lesser amount of bubble algae and a day later saw it going after a free floating bubble algae and swallowed it whole . It also went after the bubble algae that was stuck in the overflow comb . After a week of adding the juvenile Vlamingi Tang , there were none left .
