In this video, I will be showing you how to install aquarium bulkheads and how to plumb aquarium returns with loc-line. This video is geared towards anyone who is new with saltwater aquariums and who might find the information in this video useful. I'm using 3/4" bulkheads for my fish tank returns and a 1" bulkhead for the aquarium drain. The loc-line hose I am using is 3/4" and I'll be using the round nozzle return.

Haha, some else commented they do it by hand. I tried to do it by hand just to demonstrate it on video but I couldn't do it without squirming out of camera view.

I'm going to likely use the random generating nozzles on this tank. The nozzles spin in circles to give more of a random flow.

OMG I have spent like 3 hours trying to find out the name of that "flared nozzle". but thx to this video I looked up Loc-line and boom found it right away. Loc-Line 3/4 inch x 3 inch Ball Socket Flare Nozzle, Im making a waterfall and this will be perfect for water distribution.

Nice video BUT I'm NOT down for all this , even tho i just got a nice tank realizing it was an over flow with the two wholes in the middle of tank towards back, NOW since i don't want to go this way do you have any suggestions how to seal the two holes up, Ive read from using glass top and bottom sealing with silicone or i was thinking using Bulkheads, i herd what you said about the pvc and the bulkhead not recommended, But when i got the tank pvc and sealer were used, they had to cut the bottom parts off because they were sealed,. Is their a way to use a bulk head and customize something simple to seal them up on a 60 gallon rimless ? I seen the inserted to keep fish from getting sucked in maybe now writing this using rubber plugs with plumbers sealer or silicone and just plug the top and bottom , BUT i for sure don't needs leaks or a disaster since I'm a renter, any feedback aka: Suggestions ,? Tnks

For plumbing 2 returns would you just split your pipe and run a pipe up to each return?

Coming long nicely. Gil have you consider deleting the refill nozzle with just a simple screen cap that fresh salt water can just permeate thru. The tank will look less busy, also it will not be a distraction and give an overall cleaner look. Also, are you going to be using check valve (back siphon) or ball valve at the auto refill line?
@ReeferGil
@ReeferGil 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Chilylevel5, thanks for the suggestion. I honestly don't know how this is all going to work. I have a mental picture, but until I actually get my hands wet, I won't know what adjustments I can make. I definitely will have a ball valve behind the tank to control the flow into the tank if needed. I have also installed a check valve which I covered in my Vectra M1 plumbing video. The Vectra M1 will be my pump to pump fresh saltwater back into the DT. As for the refill nozzle, I'm all for making it look cleaner. I'm thinking a screen will not control the spray of water coming in, and will force me to turn down the amount of water coming back into the DT to make it more of a waterfall, which will take longer to refill the tank. But you did give me an idea to come out of the refill union with a simple 90 fitting. I may change it based on your suggestion. A big part of doing these videos is to get great feedback like this one, so THANK YOU!

I am doing a new build. Never plumbed a diy sump before. How do you connect the piping to the bulk head from the outside of the tank ? I see a bunch of these bulk heads have threads there too so Im guessing no slip. Thanks.

How far do you typically drill the return line from the top of the tank?? I’m doing this to my 40Gallon breeder.

Hi I'm currently changing my 450 tank to external filter from a sump,what would be the best way to seal the 3 holes on the bottom of the tank where the bulkheads were?
@ReeferGil
@ReeferGil 4 жыл бұрын
I would keep the bulkheads, run a 4" PVC pipe and glue a cap at the end of it.

I used a diamond coated drill bit purchased from Bulk Reef Supply. If you look on their website, they have drill bits matching your particular need.
