Anck-su-namun was the pharos's mistress not his daughter. You'll have to watch the sequel to get the story of his daughter. Which, I highly recommend. The Mummy Returns is one of those rare cases of a sequel being as good if not slightly better than the first. It has a more complex story and uses the story of the first film to make something more layered and interesting. Its great! I've probably seen it more than the first, and I've seen the first many, many times. It was one of my favorites growing up. Ignore the 3rd one, though. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exist.

So I’m not the only one who preferred second movie over first one. Idk it was just more in depth and complex for me and let’s not forget Evy’s story was much more interesting. In first one everything was about an accident and then about survival but in second movies things were more personal between these characters.

Stunt coordinator Simon Crane took the drop through the trap door (there were hundreds of witnesses), sissy Fraser passed out when he went up on his toes on the platform. It was his idea to tighten the noose. It wouldn't happen now with all of his autoerotic asphyxiation experience since then. Apparently he liked it.

If he was never the same again, how did he do the sequels and a couple of other action movies over the years? The Stunt coordinator Simon Crane took the drop through the trap door. There were hundreds of witnesses in the apartment building in Morocco they used as the prison. Brendan had 5 stunt doubles in The Mummy movies. They're documented.

I was in elementary school when this came out and even now I make a point to watch it at least once a year - it still holds up. I love the way they captured that kind of “Egypt-fever” of that post-WW1 era and brought that kind of classic adventure story feel along with it. It somehow manages to strike that balance of the adventure with some pretty well-done horror - the body horror of the scarabs under the skin still makes me flinch it’s so creepy and unsettling. And all the great stuff with the mummy himself in the design and the way he sucks people dry…chef’s kiss. Well done and at the time pretty cutting edge in terms of the technology for the creature. That and the cast just all being ridiculously charming and fun - I can’t help but just enjoy the ride every time I watch, even when I know what’s going to happen. Also I love how we laugh at Johnathan and his comedic relief but it’s hit me now more as an adult that he’s actually kinda like the secret GOAT amongst them all?? Given his age, he absolutely served at and almost miraculously survived the front in WW1 and likely watched most if not all his friends die horrific deaths in the process…but he also picks pockets even while being choked by Imhotep, knows to blend in with the boils and sores horde in order to get to the escape vehicle. can handle firearms, and can read/translate/speak ancient Egyptian even if not quite as well as his sister.
@RaixsOreh
@RaixsOreh Жыл бұрын
Ikr? alot of people miss how good Jonathan really is because his comedic dummy moments stand out, but he obviously knows his shit at the very least, he surprisingly knows how to read heiratic and heiroglyphs (though not as good as Evie), he was well versed in scholarly matters enough that he actually knows the plagues of egypt that he can quote them, and he can shoot too! considering that he survived the Medjai's first attack on them when they got to Hamunaptra WHILE drinking! Johnathan is basically what would happen if you took someone with Evie and Rick's skills, lower the skills abit, and made them clever, witty, and funny. he's basically a supporting role to both of them.

I always liked Johnathan because despite his comedic timing he actually served a purpose to the story. He had the balance of all characters in this movie tbh. He didn’t believe in dead like those American boys but unlike them wouldn’t underestimate death and get himself in trouble, even if he do get himself in trouble so he’ll try to blend in the environment just like how he did when Imhotep’s slaves came in while he was trying to start the car and how he distracted Imhotep to get the key. He knew enough stuff that he needed to know about history instead of being a pro like his sister. It’s good to see how Alex is the mixture of Johnathan, Evelyn and Rick in sequel.

I have been in love with Brendan Fraser since Encino Man (which you definitely need to watch)! So incredibly happy that he is finding his groove again and getting the recognition he deserves! He has so many amazing quirky, fun movies that I think you guys would love, but the one I really fell in love with him in was Blast From the Past (which he did right before The Mummy so kind of got overshadowed a bit). There are some scenes in Blast From The Past that really made those of us that have actually watched it fall head over heels for that man. It also has a great cast. He also plays a very brief cameo in the hilarious Son-In-Law (Pauly Shore plays the main character, who was also in Encino Man with him). Of course Bedazzled really shows off his range since he plays multiple, very different characters. Really hope you will be checking out more of his goofy comedies in the future!

YES!! One of my favorite movies as a kid! In th early '90's, horror film directors Wes Craven, John Landis, John Carpenter, Clive Barker, Tobe Hooper, Mick Garris, and George Romero were considered for the project. Stephen Sommers, a fan of the original Mummy movies, was hired for the job after the his last film DEEP RISING, bombed at the box office a year earlier. Sommers said in an interview that he wanted this film to be "a cross between Indiana Jones meets Jason And The Argonauts" as the monster or villain always give the hero e hard time. Before Brendan Fraser was cast as Rick O'Connell, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, Chris O'Donnell, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Tom Cruise were considered for the role. Cruise would star in the 2017 reboot, which was not well received by Critics or fans of the original film. When Brendan Fraser saw the reboot, he called it "a heartless joyless soulless remake of a beloved franchise." The film was a box office and critical success, making $420 million dollars against a $80 million dollar budget.

If you want to see "the princess" aka Pharaoh's daughter, you'll have to watch the sequel. A fan theory suggests that Imhotep referred to Evelyn as Anuksunamun because of the bad eyes he absorbed from Mr. Burns. Remember Mr. Burns had poor eyesight. Also it's believed that Imhotep used the wording "princess Anuksunamun" as a term of endearment for his dead lover, not as her official title. Evelyn is not the reincarnation of Anuksunamun. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evy described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission: they used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over). And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen this movie. Also, to speak scientifically: Horses are faster than camels, but camels are better adapted to life in the desert. Camels have fat reserves in their humps that they use for fuel for weeks on end, though they do have to refuel after a while. They also have long eyelashes to keep sand out of their eyes and their feet spread their weight so they don't sink in the deep sand.

This and the second were such a HUGE deal when they came out. The Mummy is so iconic and Brendan Fraser is amazing. And the ride is still there in Universal Orlando. I go on it every year for HHN. You guys should watch more of his classics.

I think it's always going to be hard to understand what The Mummy did for representation of totally different characters in this genre at the time... so many films and series have been influenced by the impact it had and you'll always have a difficult time watching it after growing with the cinematic evolution it caused. There are a few movies like that, where it'll be hard to capture the reason it's so well-known by those who watched it around the original release - like The Matrix is one that always comes to mind for me.

I was about 7 when this movie came out, and it was playing on a big television at a family friend's Halloween party. I came in just when they were mummifying Imhotep alive and was definitely scarred for a long time! I didn't try watching it again for almost 10 years after that. It's an amazing movie and definitely holds up even all these years later!

Funny story (Funny uh-oh, not funny haha). While in Afghanistan/Iraq (can't properly remember which), my husband noticed a tickle on his leg, then his chest, then he looked at the laptop that was sitting on his chest, and a camel spider the size of a dinner plate was just sitting there, chilling on the keyboard. He promptly slammed the laptop closed on it, hurled the laptop off his chest. The spider escaped. Don't think he slept very well that night...

One of my favourite films when I was a kid! The cgi was a bit bad at that time but still was a legend for its time! I’m not even near to an Egyptologist’s knowledge but even though I love it, it has so facts veryyy wrong! First, he said 5 canopic jars… NEVER! Anyone that has even read one children’s book for Egypt he will know that the canopic jars were always 4! •The *Baboon-headed* jar was the God Hapi protecting the lungs! • The *Human-headed* jar was the God Imsety protecting the liver. • The *Jackal-headed* jar was the God Duamutef protecting the stomach. • The *falcon-headed* jar was the God Qebehsenuf protecting the intestines. The heart was removed and placed in a special jar on top of the body. The rest of the organs as well as the brain were removed and tossed because it contained huge amount of fluids/water and it was impossible to be kept within the mummy because the whole point of making a mummy was to completely dry the corpse, taking out all the humidity so it can be preserved for ever! The body was left inside a mountain of salt for 40-50 days to be completely dry. Then, they added cinnamon and other spices to make it smell a bit better! Wrapped in kilometres of linen cloth dipped in trees’ resin to seal it from air-oxygen contact! Also, Hamunaptra as the city of the bead with all the treasures of the late pharaohs… totally made off their minds. Also the whole ritual and the curse, the black and golden book… Ah these took “books” were not books, they are are called codex. They weren’t books back then. Only pieces of parchment and papyrus! Codexes were slabs of wax where writers could easily write and erase texts on them! But ok, it is a fictional film so… 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have so much trivia knowledge on this movie. FOR EXAMPLE the Hanging scene with Brendan almost went horribly wrong. There was a error with the length of the rope and he was actually pretty much choking. At first they thought it was just amazing acting, but rushed in when they realized he wasn't touching the base correctly.

Winston WW1 Pilot 1914-1918, definitely wants to join his comrades, a combination of survivors guilt, PTSD and wanting a death that is something more than just getting old. Fighter pilots got lots of great press, but in April 1917 the life expectancy for new British Pilots was eleven days. Once experienced your life expectancy shot up, but it would of been hell to see all the new recruits, who likely looked up to you and asked for advice, die again and again.

This version is a remake loosely based off the original 1932 classic, honestly i like both of them. If you guys wanna check out a really campy comedy of his George Of The Jungle is kind of a Tarzan spin off. He was also in a movie called Encino Man with Pauly Shore. Brenden got his start as a comedy actor, I think The Mummy was his kind of first "serious" role but not to sure about that. Also scarabs dont act like they show in the movie all a scarab is is a dung beetle but the ones in the movie are supposed to be cursed.

You guys were talking about the ten plagues of Egypt and how crazy they are. They actually originate from the bible, and includes water turning to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, locusts, disease on livestock, boils, hail/storms and fire from the sky, darkness, and death of the firstborn in each household. This movie only shows some of them

i really liked the meeting between Benny and Imhotep, it showed historical reference. Benny showed various religious symbols from around his neck and spoke in different languages...eventually he spoke in what we now know as jewish...back is ancient egypt their people would have been slaves to the egyptians. Imhotep's final words as he sunk into the pool were "Death is only the begining."

I started watching this reaction a few days ago, but noticed the Extraordinary Attorney Woo Young Woo. Got side-tracked to watch Heartstopper first, subscribed, proceeded to Attorney Woo, watched The Glory to the part I'm currently at, and finally came back to watch this reaction 😂 Great fun. This movie is such a nostalgic movie for my siblings and I. It's such a 90s comedy adventure and just such a vibe. Not a single 4th of July goes by without us watching this movie. It's seen in our households at least once a year, if not more. Good go-to when you want some fun action. Still holds true for us - a classic up there with Tremors.
