I work at Walmart. This guy is 100% right. We can ask but they are not obligated to show anything. They are also not allowed to follow you to your car. The moment you walk out we are not allowed to follow for safety reasons. My friend was fired for trying to stop a guy from stealing. According to walmart policy, walmart is a multi-billion dollar company, we can afford to lose a tv, but our employee's lives can never be replaced. You let them go and stay safe. These people would all be fired if they worked at my store...

I used to show my receipt whenever stopped until one time I did so and the door greeter started rummaging through my groceries. I get that you have to see the receipt and everything, but when you go searching through my groceries and throwing it all over the cart, it gets to the point where I dont see a reason behind allowing them to stop or examine my purchases.

i worked for walmart, several things she did wrong and could easily be fired for (regardless of her position) : 1) receipt checks can *only* be done at the doors on the *inside* of the building. 2) she demanded to see contents that were already inside his vehicle (no one but the police have legal authority to look inside a vehicle and even that is only aloud under special circumstances) 3) her conduct can easily be viewed as harassment (there are more, but these are the obivous ones that anyone could see without even trying if she doesn't get fired for this, she better realize how crazy lucky she is and how stupidly she handled the situation.

I used to work as mall security, and Walmart was on the way home. I would buy just enough to eat for a day or two, and walk out without bagging my items. I did it for environmental reasons. Every morning, when a particular Walmart greeter would work, she would ask for my receipt. I complied. After all, I was used to dealing with disrespect in retail security myself. But I got tired of it. No other greeter did this. I would use the self checkout, which is in clear view of the exit. I was in uniform, and easily identifiable if I were to shoplift. And there was no reason I couldn't just take a Walmart bag, fill it with unpaid items, and walk out the door. It would be foolish to get caught shoplifting there, because I came in so regularly. One morning, I just got tired of it. I worked another eight-hour shift, and I just wanted to buy some food and go home and sleep. She wanted to check my receipt. I told her no, I don't feel like doing that today. She yelled "I WANT TO SEE IT." I replied, "If you think I stole something, then go look at the video and call the police. You stop me every time I shop here. I never see you stop anyone else. I'm done." That morning was the straw that broke the camel's back. But I also knew from my job that no one outside of law enforcement has the legal right to detain you, unless you commit a felony. The bystanders that morning probably thought that I was the asshole, being mean to an old lady like that. But she never bothered me again. No regrets.
