I wasn’t planning to make a video in conjunction with my annual stove maintenance on the Regency i1500 this year, but when I removed the catalyst and saw the condition of the flame shield I decided to make a short video. As you can see, heat from the combustor has warped the steel, making it a difficult fit to disassemble and reassemble, after only 2 years of occasional use. The stove isn’t pushed hard, and the highest temperatures observed on the catalyst probe thermometer have been around 1400F, which is not unreasonable. In my opinion, the design of the catalytic combustor setup on the Regency Cascades series hybrid stoves and inserts could be improved.

Bummer. Are those metal baffles expensive? And hey, did you ever get the air control figured out so you can slow down that burn?

No idea on the price of that flame shield. And no, the stove isn’t controlled any better. I tested it against the EPA test runs. Max is right on the EPA test burn rate. Low is something like 20% faster than EPA test, but slower then the high burn rate.

@@ProductiveRecreation Yah I remember those videos.... just wasn't sure if you rigged something up. My stove was burning too hot on the low setting, mostly I believe due to the 32' masonry chimney it exhausts out of. I don't have access to that venting due to the size of the masonry firebox the stove sits in, so I jurry rigged the intake to slow the whole thing down. I had been worried about over-temps, but not anymore, and of course now the burn times are better.... more inline with the stove's epa testing. By the way, we live in the manadnock region 😁 Anyways, appreciate your channel, keep it going!

@@chrisc5757My chimney height is similar. Likely why it doesn’t slow down to the EPA number. I haven’t gotten into any mods because I don’t burn this unit all the time (my large freestanding stove is my primary workhorse), and it works fine as a supplement as-is.
