Here are the first loads for .270 Winchester...I’ve never owned a .270 so this should be a fun project. The rifle is pretty sweet: Steyr Pro Hunter Stainless with a Leupold VX-3L 4.5-14x50 scope. This should make a great deer woods rifle / round. Y’all enjoy!

I grew up reading Jack O'Connor who loved the 270. Ever since, I have been hunting with 270 Man, that's a really cool loading bench setup! God bless!

I have had a sauer 101 in 270 for the last five years and the best loads I have found for it is 58 grains off reloader 22 with a cci br2 primer behind a 130 grain bt. It's velocity is just short of 300 fps and will consistently shoot 3/8" or less at 100 yards and 3/4" at 200 yards. Also found H4831sc excellent with 58 grains but velocity was well down at about 3780 with a 130 bt

Im gonna have some fun working up loads for this .270...the 180 Woodleighs stabilize and group really well so that takes care of the heavy end of the spectrum so now I’m working back down around the 130’s and have a few different projectiles to try in that weight.

I love the .270. I put 43.0 grains of Varget behind 150gr Nosler BTH for wife's elk hunts. Drops them where they stand. Styers are very nice rifles, you'll love the setup. I've used H4350 as well with great results.

UNCLEBOB 540i I’m looking forward to loading for it and exploring the heavier weight bullet options...I’m sure I’ll load a little lighter at some point but I’m gonna work on some good loads around 150gr and up

The 130 grainers are really the hot setup in .270. Perfect for deer and most other game. You can get those moving at 3000+. If you read Jack O'Connor that in a Winchester model 70 was his go to combination for most game. I shot coyotes with 110s, but not my favorite.

What brand of rifle mate? I’ve reloaded for my M77 with 130gr SST and the performance was awful. Bullets tumbling up near max charge. Going to try the 140’s

@@chenderson4969 interesting, as I've found my Hornady's best groups were at min loads. Not a fan of these bullets in my Sako .243, or Tikka .270. I think both are unstable with the twist rates. I wish Tikka would up their twist rate offerings, at least in their varmint line.

Nice powder measure! Sold a .270 to get another .270. I think the only gun I would switch it up for is a .280ai. Getting 0.75 inch groups with H4350/48GR/Hornady ELDX 145gr and 0.5 inch groups H4350/53GR/Barnes TSX 140gr. Tikka t3x. Have not had great luck with Hornady bullets and low twist rate barrels. Trying some Sierra PH 110gr for deer hunting.

The .270 is a solid round and great choice for deer. I load .280 Remington for my dad and it’s a great round as well. Gotta love the AI line of cartridges. Those Sierra 110’s should drop the hammer on some deer!

I have loaded for the 270 for 35 yrs and I have never bought new brass for loading - one thing to remember is, your brass needs to be "fire formed" be fore it really starts to show good results. I didn't hear you mention anything about resizing the new brass! You should at least resize the neck before loading new brass. Don't go to hard on Hornady for that one piece of brass that was bad, there has been several other companies that I know of that I have had the same problem. Good luck and be careful.

Good luck with the 150 grn bullet my rifle likes the 140 grn better using IMR 4064 was getting 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 yds out of my old rifle am starting over since I had to sell my rifle. But now I have a new rifle in 270 win. Hoping to get as good or better groups out of the new rifle. Since it's a Ruger No. 1 International it should stack them just fine. Good luck with yours.

Hello, was thinking of reloading for .270 Win if I can ever buy primers. Question: after a case is fire formed or stock cartridge shot, do you bump your shoulder back .002” and then trim case to trim length like a lot of hand-loaders for bolt guns do? What kind of rifle are you shooting in, also do you have any idea how far you are reloading from your barrel lands to get 1/2” groups at 100, or do you simply measure your cartridge overall length when seating bullet, or measure head to ogive with a comparator and caliper? Also do you crimp or not? Sorry for all the questions, but with 1/2” groups you must know what your doing and I want to learn. Just curious, thanks ✌️😎👍

@@repairfreak Well since I pick up range brass I always full length size all of my brass and I always try my brass in my rifle chamber. Then I bump the shoulder back on any that need it. Also I'm shooting a Ruger No.1 International at the moment but when I made this post I was using a Ruger M77 LH but I am still getting the same size groups even though the No. 1 has a little tighter chamber than the M77. I hope this helps

Just noted in my last comment I said 300 fps. It ment to be 3000 fps . And from a 20.5" barrel. As a side note I started with federal magnum primers and could not get good accuracy, As soon as I used cci br2 primers It was a one hole groop with five rounds, Also this was with federal brass, Could not quite get the same accuracy with hornady brass. Brass does make a huge difference. Hope this helps. It's a great calibre .

Yea I figured you meant 3,000 and brass does make a big difference from what I can tell. I bought 100 pieces of Sig Sauer brass for the .270 so I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs. I’ve always had good luck with Sig brass in .223 and .308.

If you're taking deer at woods ranges, you might consider the 160 gr Nosler Partition. It's not as streamlined as the 150 but you don't need it at woods ranges anyway. But most people would be surprised at how flat shooting it is out to 350 yds. Did you say what reticle is in that scope? I may have missed it. I like that safety. How long until deer season opens in Alabama?
@alabamareloader
@alabamareloader 4 жыл бұрын
Luvta Handload I’ll have to give the 160’s a try and it’s a duplex reticle. Bow season opens as early as October 1st in certain parts of the state with gun season following in November...not much longer now!

Just got some 140 Nosler AB's and IMR 4451 Enduron to load for my son's .270 win. I'm not finding a lot of data as the powder is fairly new, and I havent been able to pick up the newest Nos manual. I'm finding that the 4451 is pretty similar to H4350. Any advice?

I would check out Hodgdon’s load data online for the 140gr bullet weight in the .270...they use a Swift SP so not ideal but the starting charge is ~50grs which should be low enough to give you a good starting place and not get you into trouble. IMR 4451 is a great powder!

Hi, what is the weight of gunpowder for 270 bullets?
@alabamareloader
@alabamareloader 2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what powder you choose and what bullet weight you choose…I would recommend getting your hands on a reloading manual (Sierra, Hornady or Speer) and that’ll get you headed in the right direction.
