The greatest bass player of all time! He deserves a signature bass guitar from Fender; so does James Jamerson. Those two put the bass sounds of Motown on the Pop music charts, and changed the face of modern day music. Rest In Peace - Bob Babbitt

I got to work with him in Nashville playing with Brenda Lee. Bob was a great bass player and a real character..we toured the U.K., Scotland and all over the US. I played piano and sang b.g. vocals....I was the only girl, so he teased me a lot. But the band was great. He was my sushi buddy and I was floored learning all of this history he had as a major player. I remember him with a smile...he was a big, burley, teddy bear. I’ll always think of you, fondly Bob. RIP. Bro.

I played on many sessions with Bob - always a card on sessions, when it "was red" Bob got down to business! Babbitt, James Jamerson and Tony Newton were three main reasons for the Motown sound! I played with most of the Funk Brothers over the years - they were a unique breed, indeed!

jennifur sun, it can be tough feeling you were born at the wrong time, but don’t let that stop you. “...Dream your castles in the sky... now build their foundations”. You may yet work in a place just as special. The business industry of music has changed a good bit, but the art and the trade of musician hasn’t so much.

@@Terrible_Peril , Thanks for for that quote. Bruce Nazarian, played bass on the opening track of my band, the brides of funkenstein; unfortunately we only met briefly via face book - Bass Players Unite!

Dennis Coffey "Scorpio", Gladys Knight & the Pips "Imagination", the Ashford & Simpson Warner Bros. albums ("Gimme Something Real" and "I Wanna Be Selfish"), Philly soul, The Capitols "Cool Jerk", Robert Palmer "Every Kind of People"... KZfaq doesn't have enough space to hold all the titles. Props to you, Mr. Kreinar. Condolences to your family, friends and loved ones.

I always tought of the difference as this: Bob Babbitt was a 'in the pocket' kind of guy. He was really a guy of the low notes, a true bass player. THE true bass player. Played the bassline. BAM, right there. True bass: nothing more, nothing less. Jameson, he was a virtuoso, a bass player on steroids, not only did he groove in the pocket, he also knew to use the most intricate rythm and melodies in his basslines, going all over the place on his neck, with all sorts of variations. Both great.

Playing a bit of Bass tonight and went back to some old favorites to play along with. Came across Midnight Train and got me thinking of Mr. Babbitt. I felt compelled to let the world know he will never be forgotten, at least not by me. Too good for words.......

Jamerson always gets so much credit, and rightfully so, but if you listen to Bob's tracks he really was equally incredible.

Not fully, Babbitt applied the gift of music he had as well, his own individual identity, his own personality

William Jackson literally the only difference between an a American Vintage early '60s P reissue and a Fender Babbit Signature would be a graft of his signature on the headstock, and you can get a decal of his signature printed up and save the hundreds of dollars extra that Fender would charge for a "signature " bass..

Bob worked on that exact thing with Fender in the years before he passed. Because of the economy failing, Fender put it on the back burner. Bob passed, and the signature bass was never released.
