Today, I take another nostalgic and historic memory lane trip. In this episode, I visit three famous Palm Springs historic sites and locations:
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez's former home in Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA
Kaye Ballard's Rancho Mirage home, which she purchased from Desi Arnaz in 1970 (Located on Kaye Ballard Lane)
Indian Wells Resort Hotel, built and opened in 1957 by Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball (At the time it was called Desi Arnaz's Western Resort Hotel)

I met Lucy in 1979, she was the only celebrity I ever asked for a autograph ( and I met many old one's). She was very kind and took time to chat!

You are so lucky … I always wanted to meet her and Desi … although I have met their daughter , Lucie , several times over the years at her concerts … and she is fabulous … so warm and down-to-earth. I think she is great ❤️

Magoo.... you are so lucky to have met Lucy... I had an aunt named Lucille I had always called her that she wasn't as wacky as the star but a no nonsense woman who was stern but would have her way everyone else called her Lucy

They never stopped talking to each other, their last call was endless I love you's, they talked on their anniversary the last time days before he died.

@@peaceandlove544 he passed away from lung cancer at 69. In 1986. Lucy passed at ceders Sani.meducal center. Heart failure 1989. 3 years after desi.

Actually Desi continued sending Lucy her favorite flowers on their Anniversary at least for 15 years (maybe longer) after they were divorced - both of them had been remarried for many years. Also on the recent Lucy Desi documentary - their old friend M. Rabwin reported that Desi, for years, would come over crying saying he wished that he and Lucy had not divorced.

Steve, I remember reading an article about Lucille Ball years ago and something in particular she said about herself I've never forgotten. She was quoted as saying that she did not consider herself to be a naturally funny person but that she had a gift for interpreting funny. I've always found that interesting.

I remember her writers Madelyn Pugh and Robert Carroll Jr said that when Lucy first read the script she was not funny but as she rehearsed over and over she could not be matched. Also, I forget who told the story that when ILL first came out and a known person (producer or director) sat in on the first read - with Desi, Lucy, Vivian and Frawley, the person said that it was really great, but get rid of the redhead.

I Love Lucy, longest running rerun I still watch. The trip to California episodes were my favorite. Lucy was born 110 years ago as of this year (2021).

My only aunt born 1923 and my mom born 1925 loved and lived in Tucson and loved the southwest starting out in Calif then at ages 3 &5 moved to Denver with their parent's, moving to Tucson in 1966. All the actor's and actresses we grew up with seeing on road trips to LA, Palm springs, California are irreplaceable. No one will ever be able to fill their talent, from the singer's to comedians, it's no longer the same, they were the best like my mom and aunt.

The long, long trailer is one of my favorite movies. I loved Desi and Lucy in that movie. And who didn’t enjoy the I love Lucy show? It was fun to see Kaye Ballard’s home. I did watch the movie Senior Moment but don’t remember seeing her in it.

Don't know how to use public comment but when the hotel was new there lived at 77013 Desi Drive in the club---look at a street map & you'll see Desi Drive and Lou Circle-2 streets right next to the club

I was recently in eastern California visiting Mono Lake and got to talking to some hikers there. We talked about that movie and the rock collection she was doing because we all did the same thing! I had heard they filmed some of that movie over Sonora Pass which is probably one of the scariest passes ever! I drove it to cross the Sierras many times but never collected rocks. Funny movie to be sure😄

I’ve stayed here a bunch and I love the rooms! They all have cute balconies or patios straight to the pool. Looks like they’ve updated the hallways as they used to be patterned carpets. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks for reminding us of this hidden gem☺️

I stayed there and it was really nice. The rooms are very comfortable, the pool area is nice and the Gentleman that performs is awesome! Also the price is very reasonable. A true gem in the desert.

Fun story about the hotel. I knew a couple that used to be caretakers for it back in the day. They even got to keep a set of chairs from Lucy and Desi’s place when it was being renovated. They still have them at their home here in Vancouver, BC.

That's not true. When they got divorced he got the house in Del Mar and he lived there for the rest of his life. He died there with his family around.

Fantastic tour Steve! I Love Lucy is probably my all time favorite show. I love the pictures! The ones of Lucy and Desi were beautiful, and so were many of the others including the one of Bobby Darin who is also one of my favorite all time performers. I would love to stay there someday for sure. :)

When I met my first boyfriend many moons ago our favourite song was Eydie Gorme singing Everybody Go Home. Whenever I hear it is takes me right back. Thank you for your wonderful videos. Happy retirement. I retired in May.

Beautiful photos…. It’s sad Desi couldn’t keep his pants on….I still love their show. William Frawley and Vivian Vance were hilarious and it took all four characters as a whole to make the show in my opinion.

I’m 60 years old and never heard of the show the mothers in law until 2020, I liked Kay and Eve a lot so I watched the whole series on Hulu. I watched the series twice. Not really sure why I have never seen it before. Love your videos and all the effort you put into them

We spent the night here last night. The pool is large, with a nice jacuzzi also. They included two breakfasts for the price. My wife and I liked the vintage pics scattered throughout the hotel, as well as the pretty landscaping. The rooms are large and comfortable, but somewhat dated and not decorated like the lobby and hallways are. Super affordable at $106 per night tax included. Sandra and I will stay here again for sure 😊👍

I adore Lucy n Desi. I can't speak for them as having been mean, hateful, cruel to one another. But what I say is:I was raised Desi n Lucy. The originals. I was born in 59 so when I started watching it my parents, my sad painful world, went away for as long as the show was on. So for me, I luv Lucy made my home happier, and I needed that. So thank u for doing this one. Totally excellent 👌😊

Great video. I love all the historic homes of the stars. It’s so interesting. My brother did some air conditioning work for Desi when he lived in San Diego, said he was very nice. Lucy and Desi are two of my favorite people of all time.

Steve....your channel brings back so many memories. I live up the road in Vegas and have been both enamored and fascinated by the relationship the two cities have developed over the decades. Old Vegas was changing sadly when I moved here in 1991. Still, the Desert Inn was still here and many of the classic acts such as Steve and Edie and Buddy Greco would still play in their lounge. I always enjoy the drive down with the smell of the desert wafting through the air. I'm also a huge Jack Webb fan and located his Palm Springs home the last time I was down there. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories you bring back.

@@TheGraveyardChannel You are welcome Steve & Jim...genuflecting about PS Airport this morning after watching a Mayberry RFD episode and the cast was visiting PS. There were numerous shots of PS and the sights/scenery of the Coachella Valley.Even Howard was talked into renting a dune buggy with the rest of the cast! There were a few exterior/interior scenes of the airport that brought back a lot of memories as well. Very mid-century modern architecture! Check out the episode if you get a chance!

I love this! I Love Lucy is one of my favorites! I was reading of Steve and Eddie. I knew that she had passed but was very sad to hear that he now has dementia.

That hotel is just beautiful. I Love Lucy I grew up watching her as a young child love her to this day. The best sitcom ever I laugh every time I watch it. Thank you so much for sharing. This was a FANTASTIC video Steve! I do remember Kaye Ballard and Eve Arden! I watched The Mothers in Law! Great show! And I L ❤️ VE Lucy? Most wonderful ✨️ show! Loved seeing the Hotel! My Aunt, Uncle and Cousin lived in the Palm 🌴 Springs area. Indian Wells, Cathedral City. Went to visit several times. We didn't do alot of sight seeing though. Sadly, they have passed away. No more visits! Thanks for the memories Bob. Ugh... I mean Steve! 😆 💕

Thank you for sharing. I have always loved Lucy & Desi. Both very talented in their own rights. Desi was a great business man. I have watched every documentary on the couple, read everything I could, but didn't know of the hotel. I have been up and down the coast from San Diego to San Francisco 7 times, but never made it to Palm Springs. Next time for sure! Love the 50's architecture in Palm Springs I have seen over the years. Now I know where I will stay! Great place and history. You gave a great tour.
